Water closet.

Little Man being Erased 07-24-2006 07:49 PM

Splendour in the Grass was really fucking good. I had the best time ever.

TV on the Radio really impressed me. I didn't even like them before seeing them, but I absolutely loved the live show. DJ Shadow was a little disappointing but still good. I missed Sonic Youth. Brian Wilson was absolutely amazing (despite being completely fucked up). Everything else I saw was really great too.

ATM 07-24-2006 08:40 PM

What happened with DJ Shadow?

Little Man being Erased 07-24-2006 08:58 PM

He had a couple of technical difficulties at the beginning which made it a little harder to get into. And also, some of the new songs he played weren't that great.

That sucks, he should have just done Endtroducing all the way through :)

So I'm at Brown for a week long pre-college course on medical controversy. I can get wireless in the dorm so I've been using my PSP each night to use the interwebs and watch Futurama.

sr800bkBassist 07-25-2006 12:11 AM

i've got one more year of highschool, and i need an art school that's really cheap.
help me out with my location plans.
Portland, OR, vs Seattle, WA?
pros of each? cons?

asdf 07-25-2006 12:15 AM

Cheap art schools are hard to come by.

Here's the art school in my town. I hear good things about it

yeah, ironic too, because of the whole thing with artists not really making any money at all....

but yeah, i've got one in mind in Seattle called Cornish that costs $11,000 tuition, which isn't cheap, but considering the AI's cost in the 20's, it's a good deal. i mainly like the Pacific Northwest area of the US, like from San Francisco, and up. i really want to stay in the pacific area in general, and the southern pacific is too surfer-ish for my tastes, so i'm planning on just going north.

also, does anybody know if Santa Cruz is affordable? i know it's near San Francisco where even studio apartments cost more than $1000 a month and it's impossible for a young person to live there on their own, but maybe Santa Cruz is still cheaper despite how close it is to such an expensive city?

Dr. David Thorpe of "Your Band Sucks" also wrote a bunch of similarly-styled articles for a newspaper, and now you can read them by following this link! Funny stuff:
Electric guitar ace Kevin Shields, of the erstwhile “shoegaze” group My Bloody Valentine, was found dead in his second-favorite Barcalounger this past Saturday. Shields, according to a coroner’s report, was “lodged immovably in the chair for quite some time before his passing” and was unable to alert medical authorities. “His right hand appeared to be stuck in a dinosaur-shaped cookie jar, and it seems that he was unable to free it to use the telephone.” Tragically, had he let go of the cookie inside the jar, his hand could have been freed; the report concludes that he was “clearly unwilling to do so.”
I kind of had a crappy time, probably because I was on my own, but seeing so many bands I like made up for it. TVTOR's live version of "Ambulance" was the biggest highlight. Bummer you missed Sonic Youth, they were awesome. DJ Shadow was boring for the half hour I saw him for, the only good song was that 'break it down' one from Endtroducing. Brian Wilson was .

Little Man being Erased 07-25-2006 02:14 AM

Yes, Brian Wilson was very

Sucks that you had to go on your own. I was with a big group of people, but it was hard to stick together. We even lost one of our group overnight on Saturday, he had no idea where he was so we had to leave without him because the bus had to go.

How funny was it when Brian Wilson kept asking the people on the side of the stage to stop smoking? Hilarious.

br3ad_man 07-25-2006 02:50 AM

I thought it was badass that it was the only thing he said for about five songs. He didn't introduce himself or anything, he just kept saying "put out the cigarettes".

The bus I was on on Saturday night was prebooked in the morning and all these people kept coming and asking if they could come on. This one guy offered the driver $1000, haha. The bus driver let that dude on too, but he only charged him $12.

Hopefully I'll get some people to come next year if the lineup is good. It's like an hour's drive from the Coast to Byron, which is nothing really.

Did you see Mogwai?

Little Man being Erased 07-25-2006 02:57 AM

No. Me and my friend were on our way over there, but we got halfway there and then realised how far it was and it was already more than halfway through their set. So we said "Fuck it" and turned around. I wish I had have gone though. That's pretty much the same reason I didn't make it to Sonic Youth.

br3ad_man 07-25-2006 03:57 AM

Too bad man, they were easily my favourite.

I wish I could have seen a Beach Boy.

Had a jam session with some mates today, was pretty awesome. My friend just carpeted up the 2 snd floor of his garage, and put some sofa's and all his guitar stuff up there; it's such a cool little practice room now. We came up with a couple of cool jams, and played along to some cure songs.

Anxious 07-25-2006 03:08 PM

A stack of color changing hamburgers. But if you use the dark sputnik skin, then it looks like a really skinny stack of color changing hamburgers.

telemore 07-25-2006 03:53 PM

100 would be too long and I honestly don't think I've got 100 albums in my collection, :upset:.

But my favorite artists are, and in rough order:

Do Make Say Think
GY!BE
Bear Vs. Shark
Kayo Dot
Explosions in the Sky
Feist
Mono
Circa Survive
Pink Floyd

/it's not a hipster list by any means, but I'm still 'not in the know' about alot of stuff.

Yer, when I get back home I'm gonna jump into slsk

JonM 07-25-2006 04:02 PM

For the first time in months, I've actually finished my slsk queue. I have no additional music to download at this time. It feels quiet.

I really like Feist. The first song I heard by her/them was Mushaboom on a random advert. I downloaded more songs and I've got into them quite alot.
