I'm feeling a little disillusioned with the fact that so many people are disappointed with the album, even to the point that I may not like it.

What do you guys think?

gmoneyguy 04-30-2006 10:37 AM

I love the new album.

randomthought9 04-30-2006 10:40 AM

So far I think it's pretty solid. I don't know if it's as good as Lateralus or Aenima, but it's up there. I haven't listened to it enough to decide.

Most of the negative comments i've seen have been followed up by the same people saying DT suck, or that SOAD's last release had more emotion than the new Tool release, and other similar comments.

The people on here that have given mixed feelings towards the albums tend to be the ones who it's slowly growing on. But I can give my opinion in just under 14 hours :)

Syncratic 04-30-2006 10:46 AM

I suppose you're all right.

I might not get it the day it comes out, but definately within the week.

randomthought9 04-30-2006 10:50 AM

This album seems like one that'll grow on you, like the more you listen to it, the more you'll like it, IMO.

Dancin' Man 04-30-2006 11:08 AM

I was disappointed so I wrote a review. 3/5 for 10,000 Days.

I read it, it was good.

But it worries me that the album may in fact be a bunch of rehashed riffs and such. I don't want that.

You'll enjoy parts of it on the first listen, but it won't all sink in.

From there... well, you'll either grow to love it, or not.

I'm really enjoying it personally.

That's true, I'm loving the album. I listen to it everyday.

deadohiosky9 04-30-2006 02:30 PM

Reywas 04-30-2006 02:44 PM

I don't think it's going to be on their webcam.

Turkish 04-30-2006 03:24 PM

My friend is going to that and I was supposed to be with him...but damned work wouldn't let me go.

Oh well, I'll get to see them in 11 days.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2006 03:51 PM

Intension is now my current fave from the album.

Spark turns into flame, flame turns into fire

WAK (while killing) 04-30-2006 04:00 PM

Wings for Marie, and 10,000 days are my favorite songs on the album, I read in a article in Guitar World that Adam Jones cried after listening to 10,000 days

gmoneyguy 04-30-2006 04:12 PM

Eulogy is about the death of stand up comedian, I forgot his name.

3FingeredHoek 04-30-2006 04:18 PM

^Bill Hicks.

gmoneyguy 04-30-2006 04:21 PM
^Bill Hicks.
There we go. Thanks for the help.
Eulogy is about the death of stand up comedian, I forgot his name.
Many people feel that Euology is about the death of Bill Hicks, a comedian/philosopher of whom Maynard is a big fan, however I disagree. I don't think Maynard would write a song solely about one person, seeing as most of his other songs deal with very broad subjects. Most peole think that Eulogy is either about Bill Hicks, Hitler, or Jesus, but there are huge diffrences between those three people, yet one big simmilarity, they were all leaders of some sort. I think that Eulogy is about leadership in general, and that people hold the real power, and decide if the leader lives or dies.

There is a difference between message and whats its about. Its about Bill Hicks, now you may grab the aforemention message form the song, but it does not change what the song is about.

You're welcome. :thumb:

Tyr 04-30-2006 04:32 PM

I've heard that it's about L. Ron Hubbard.

deadohiosky9 04-30-2006 04:48 PM

Its hard to say who Eulogy is about, it could be any of the aforementioned figures. He only compares that figure with Jesus.

Centrum, you're right. I just checked and they aren't gonna be on the webcam. Damn.

WAK (while killing) 04-30-2006 04:51 PM

If its about Bill Hicks, whom Maynard was a big fan of, why would he bash him in the song,

No way to recall what it was that you had said to me, Like I care at all.

WAK (while killing) 04-30-2006 04:55 PM

If the song is about one person then L. Ron Hubbard would make the most sense, seeing that Maynard criticizes Scientologists later in the album.

deadohiosky9 04-30-2006 05:03 PM

L. Ron Hubbard being the target of the song makes the most sense to me.

Syncratic 04-30-2006 06:11 PM

Since the band's playing Coachcella tonight, it's a good chance that the 'Vicarious' clip will premier at the concert, meaning we'll see it within the week/next 2 weeks.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2006 06:37 PM

Where did he say this? The meaning of Eulogy has always been up for debate, and so you just saying that doesn't mean much to me. :p

It's not that I don't think you're credible, but I just wouldn't think that the many arguments I've heard over Eulogy would have happened if Maynard had stated what you said.

infinate_ammo 04-30-2006 07:00 PM

Who cares about the meaning, find your own.

deadohiosky9 04-30-2006 07:02 PM

^^ Good point. But they were just discussing different ideas.

gmoneyguy 04-30-2006 07:06 PM

People tend to fail literature class with that mode of thinking.

haha pwn3d.

I've always heard eulogy was about the death of that sientolgy guy or something.

I havn't read the lyrics in ages though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2006 09:11 PM

That would be the aforementioned L. Ron Hubbard, sir.

infinite ammo - I understand taking that logic in certain regards(Songs like Lateralus that are directed at a fan to make their own meaning) but taking Eulogy that way is kind of stupid. "Maynard wrote this song about my uncle who had a lot to say, but had a lot of nothing to say." Sure, people could relate the song to an uncle or something, but the song isn't about their uncle, per se. We're talking about who Maynard wrote the song for; it's very black and white and something that you can't make your own meaning out of in this case.

SonorKen 04-30-2006 09:52 PM

Eulogy could be about anything, a particular person, Jesus, or even Bill Hicks. Thats half of the attraction to this band, how their music can be made personal to anyone who listens to it.

ThunderBass 04-30-2006 10:35 PM

yeah, i always thought eulogy was about jesus... but thats just my take...

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2006 10:48 PM

I personally think Maynard wrote it portraying the person as a Christ figure, but I really doubt it's about Jesus. That's just me though.

ThatBunnKid 04-30-2006 10:50 PM

guys, no one knows what the hell maynard is talking or thinking about. hes a total nutcase.

A Charming Ban 04-30-2006 10:51 PM
guys, no one knows what the hell maynard is talking or thinking about. hes a total nutcase.
In some cases I agree with that.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2006 10:51 PM

No one knows, that's why it's so fun to interpret his lyrics.
