I've gotten sick of Zeppelin for the moment. I'm trying to explore some other types of music. Recently i've been gettin into The Roots, The Temptations, Phish, Oar, Kanye West, Elmore James, and, umm..Counting Crows..
I go in and out of Zeppelin, right now I'm a jamband type phase.

jpj 01-21-2005 09:27 PM

Zeppelin will always hold a special place in my heart :)

*warm and fuzzy*

I'm no Zeppelin fan, but III stands out as a terrific album. Lately I've just been listening to III, Miles Smiles by Miles Davis, and New Morning by Bob Dylan.

Also, I hate Counting Crows, but The Roots and Kanye West (even if he is an arrogant, ubiquitious fuck) both merit :thumb: <-- that
That's an evolution for you. I was expecting to hear how much you hate LZ I and that I suck
Well, I like you, so I'm not going to insult you, and as a whole I've mellowed out a lot.

Plus, LZ I isn't so much a bad album as much as it is a boring one.

Hey thanks man, I like you to.

So anyway, The Who Sell Out is underrated. Rael is such a great song, no one realizes it holds the beginning of the Tommy riffs.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:34 PM

The Who Sell Out is another album I feel is very underrated.

I haven't listened to it a whole lot lately, so I can't comment further.

I think some people can't take it seriously because of the advertisements, but musically it is very strong. Plus another thing about the early Who is that Daltrey doesn't have to use his hard rock voice/power on every track.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:41 PM

Actually, his voice never changed. But when they were recording Who's Next, they recruited a new producer who gave them that big arena sound.

The earlier Who have a lot more melody, harmony, and range to me then The Who of Who's Next and after.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:47 PM

That may be so, but I always preferred Who's Next and Quadrophenia. Can't put my finger on it. Any Who is good Who, I always say.

That really changed their sound. Before that it was a little more gritty. I don't know which is better but there's defintly a difference.

Against Miik! 01-21-2005 09:51 PM

Stop talking about the Who. I don't like the Who, I know nothing about them, and I feel excluded.

Yea I agree, any Who is good Who. I just grew up listening to early Who, so I like it more.

Tough it out. Every time badmoon and JPJ go all jam bandy I sit in the corner wishing somebody would bring up The Grateful Dead or The Allman Brothers.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:53 PM

My first Who song was "Baba O'Riley"...I'd imagine I speak for a lot of people when I say that.

I also remember when I was about 11 or 12, I'd imagine, seeing Keith Moon's "Behind The Music" on VH1. That's what got me interested in the first place.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:54 PM

And rock not roll is right, Badmoon could go on one of his extended rants about how awesome Phil Lesh and Warren Haynes are.

I like The Who, but I don't know anything about them other than A quick One and Who's Next are both kickass.

I'll just observe until someone brings up something else.

lunch998 01-21-2005 09:54 PM

Tommy and The Who Sell Out were my favorite albums when I was a kid.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 09:56 PM

I never dug Tommy as much as their other albums. It's good to be sure, but it never seemed to be as great as My Generation, Sell Out, Who's Next, Live at Leeds, or Quadrophenia. It's on the same level as A Quick One and a little ahead of Who Are You and Magic Bus in my book.

BludgeonySteve 01-21-2005 09:58 PM

Warren Haynes, being in the Allmans I actually decided to look into some of his solo stuff. But anything else and i'm gone.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 10:01 PM

Well, you get my point.

I downloaded the song Beautifully Broken by Gov't Mule, but never really went beyond that.

lunch998 01-21-2005 10:03 PM

I bought Deep End Vol. 1 by Gov't Mule, it's very good.

You should go there and check out some of the Mule they have, and if you like it get Deep End Vol. 1

What the hell these ****ing links!

Against Miik! 01-21-2005 10:05 PM

Already have it bookmarked from a few hundred pages ago.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 10:05 PM

Oh boy, it's time for a trip down Jam Band Lane.

Oh, good. Have you listened to any of the Mule?

EDIT:I just noticed your user title Disconnection, and the Steelers will kill the Patriots.

Ok well if not Jam bands, then what?

Illmatic 01-21-2005 10:09 PM

jpj: Belichick never loses to the same team twice. We'll find a way. If we can make Peyton Manning look like Eli Manning, lord knows what we can do to Big Ben.

lunch: I don't know. Just not jam bands. I'm surprised that we (well, Badmoon) still actually has things to say about them.

lunch998 01-21-2005 10:11 PM

There's no chance for the Steelers to win, because I am rooting for them.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
