Alright, I am an old veteran rocker, back in my day we had hard rock, Heavy metal and that was it. Now we got 612 genres of rock...I just have one question for now, so please enlighten me. What is the difference between deathcore and metalcore. Thanks!!

deathcore is more death metal influenced (bunch of blast beats and death growls) and generally lower tuned and heavier than metalcore. metalcore tends to be more influenced by the modern hardcore scene.

at least that's what i find to make them different. mappy could probably give you a 32 point thesis.

thanks! never heard of either of them, but I will go find their music & listen. Do these bands make any money, or don't they care if they ever get in the mainstream?

good metalcore albums
1. august burns red - messengers
2. parkway drive - killing with a smile
3. converge - jane doe
4. botch - we are the romans
5. underoath - define the great line

good deathcore albums
1. all shall perish - the price of existence (i still say this is deathcore)
2. the acacia strain - 3750
3. through the eyes of the dead - bloodlust
4. whitechapel - this is exile
5. winds of plague - decimate the weak

there's better out there (though both number 1's are my favorites in both genres) but that'll give you an idea.

yeah they make money, but not nearly as much as mainstream bands. but they're much better than mainstream stuff in my opinion and deserve all the praise they get.

adb 08-21-2008 12:28 AM

depends on the band, only the really mainstream bands make dough I reckon

JJLink 08-21-2008 12:28 AM

Thanks man, it's a great start, I have only heard of Underoath out of all of those bands, and I like their music. How would you guys classify Avenged Sevenfold?

old avenged sevenfold like waking the fallen era is metalcore. and actually great metalcore, but after city of evil to the present its just like modern mainstream hard rock / metal.
