Meh, my hair's nice and long

fade 2 blackened 09-11-2005 06:16 PM

ok, since we're talking about hair, mine is basicly an orange mop but only reaches the bottom of my neck. However, i have a friend who can put his bangs in his mouth.

Rob Trujillo's hair reminds me of a banshee.
Cliff Burton was a God :p
It's too bad that Newsted > Burton on creativeness of basslines.
It's too bad that Newsted > Burton on creativeness of basslines.
Newsted only made up 2 basslines in his entire career with Metallica.

vashts80 09-11-2005 06:21 PM

He was credited with three songs in his career. However, I'm pretty sure he wrote a lot more basslines for Load/ReLoad. King Nothing, Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me....

Joe 09-11-2005 06:28 PM

Jason wrote a ton of basslines, I just think Cliff Burton was better even if he wasn't as creative

I disagree that Newsted is more creative.. But meh.. Opinions are like spatulas, everyone has one :thumb:

My hair goes past my waist... AT THE FRINGE

Edit: I'm in a Load mood today :D
NP: 2x4 - Metallica

vashts80 09-11-2005 06:38 PM

Newsted was more creative. If you look at Cliff's lines, most of them followed the guitar. The only ones I can think of that don't were Anesthesia (obviously), Bells, and Ktulu, and some of Orion. A lot of Newsted's lines follow the guitar as well, but then again he switched it up a lot of times (Bleeding Me, Devil's Dance, Outlaw Torn, King Nothing, etc)

Chu 09-11-2005 06:41 PM

I'm not going to argue that Cliff's bass didn't follow the guitars (Because it did, plain and simple). But I think he added some simple things (Like Battery where he does an Octave higher I think? and Leper Messiah where he just goes off (At like the 3:36 mark, listen carefully, he's so pro)) I think he just adds to the song.

And what about Ride The Lightning?! I don't think the song would be as good without the bass, but maybe that's just me.

Edit: I was listening to Load, but you put me in a Master of Puppets mood :p

Britton 09-12-2005 11:23 AM

Cliff was God. isn't the bass supposed to sorta follow guitar? that's how we
do it in my bands (to a extent)

my mom hates my hair and it isn't really that big...it's cool
when I post up my setup I'll show you

apromisingyear 09-12-2005 11:39 AM

Does anyone know a website where I can download some live metallica show bootlegs?

I've searched the net high and low with minimal success. Can someone please direct me to a few links?

thank you

Jev 09-12-2005 11:43 AM

Jev 09-12-2005 12:46 PM

Rob is awesome, I like him more than Jason.

Father_Jack 09-12-2005 01:10 PM
Rob is awesome, I like him more than Jason.
Only thing is now, there is noone to sing the quality last chorus on creeping death. Like on Live Sh*t, Jason sings the last chorus with that really raspy voice.

But still Rob > Jason

24 hours after registration. Or you could always hi-jack a thread, not good practice tho.
the big band stuff is ruïn all the good music
What are you talking about? The orchestra made quite a few of their songs even better.

Some examples:

1. Call of the Ktulu
2. Of Wolf and Man
3.The Thing That Should Not Be
4. For Whom The Bell Tolls
5. No Leaf Clover
6. Devils Dance

Sorry but the songs really came alive with the orchestra. I will give you that the orchestration for Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets did suck though.

Jev 09-12-2005 02:26 PM

MOP's orchestration was good IMO. I didn't like Sad But True.

Father_Jack 09-12-2005 02:28 PM
MOP's orchestration was good IMO. I didn't like Sad But True.
Yeah but i thought that the orchestra took away the raw heavyness that MOP has. Still a great song tho. Yes Sad but True was not too good really.

Whale and Wasp 09-12-2005 02:28 PM

the only S&M song i like is no leaf clover

What about Fuel and Memory Remains, i thought they were done quite well.

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:34 PM

Fuel is another good example. If you watch the documentary of the project, you'll see Michael Kamen trying to get the band to listen to james and kirk and come in after them. Metallica is used to just lettin' things hang and they have to be counted in for this production. It's kinda funny watching the players mess up their parts.

How great is Michael Kamen's ear. He found that 1 person out of a hundred was off by a half step. I probably wouldn't have caught that and I have great ears.

Jev 09-12-2005 02:38 PM

I think it's a natural talent. Thank god I don't possess it for listening to GCSE music ensembles.

clairvoyant 09-12-2005 02:40 PM

No Leaf Clover rocks. I love that song.

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:40 PM

I've noticed you guys mentioning the GCSE. What is that exactly? I'm just a community college student so I don't really know.
