Am I the only person who never saw the point in rearranged tracklistings?
Probably. Some people don't like the way the tracks are ordered on the album, perhaps? I found the alternate order for Lateralus much better. |
i just bought 10,000 days :D the cover, the layout, the idea with the 3d-pictures is great!
every tool fan should buy the album (not only download it) - the artwork is worth it!! its fantastic. |

I realise this, but personally I'd rather listen to something how it was structured by the artist. Not to mention, changing song orders dosn't change the tracks in any way, and to be honest, rarely changes any overriding mood the album projects, especially with songs as long as Tool's are. So it all seems like a moot point to me. Not to mention a little pretentious. :) |
Eh i (along with many other aussie mxers it would seem) went off and bought 10,000 days today and to be honest im really not that taken by it at all, Wings Pt 2 is a nice song, as is Right in Two but there is nothing here that blew me away like the first time i heard Aenima/Lateralus. Hoping it grows on me, but at the moment the majority of the album seems well meh. :(
On a positive the art work is really really well done i particularly like the first 3d Alex Grey picture in the booklet. On a side note i also picked up "what the bleep do we know" on DVD today and suggest that people with an interest in quantum physics or alternative thinking check it out. |
I also noticed the section in Jambi that sounds like it's lifted right out of... any song from Nothing by Meshuggah
Yeah... I noticed that too. Lame. |
Went to the store today and they had the album a few days early so I bought it and completed my challenge of not listening to the leaked versions :) I'm proud of myself :p I'm listening now.. Vicarious kicks some true ***.
|
Will every album have that sort of 3d packaging, or is it a limited edition thing?
|
I'm going to guess and hope that all versions will have the 3D packaging.
|
all versions have this 3d thing!!
am i the only one who really enjoys and like 10,000 days? the only songs i didn't like, when i listened to them for the first time were the songs 3 and 4 (the two wings parts). but after listening to the record for the second time, the wing part 2 (4th song) grows on me and i really liked it. on one of the last songs they use for the first time electronic sounds - it sounds awesome; i reall like it! 10,000 is great, fantastic, another masterpiece... thoug i was hoping (because of the influence of meshuggah) that it would be harder and heavier than lateralus... but its inbetween of aenima and lateralus; well i don't mind - i love it :D |
I just got the proper Tool cd the artwork is amazing its strange aswell and the mirror things just make some of the artwork better its really great.
|
I'm about halfway through my first listen. This album is incredible.
|
Funny thing is some of my friends who are bigger Tool fans than me don't really like the new album.
|
You have to let it grow on you, it has grown on me fast.
|
You have to let it grow on you, it has grown on me fast.
It grew on me instantly. Ya thats what I told them |
Do you think when maynard sang in the pot that he sounded like James Blunt at the start before the music comes in?
|

I've really listened to James Blunt, but I did notice it was higher then he normally sings. |
No... You must've been high..

nice |
anyone here think disposition makes you think about winter?
|
nice
Haha thanks.
anyone here think disposition makes you think about winter?
I feel it more like Autumn. |
Haha thanks.
I feel it more like Autumn.
yea it has some sort of isolation to it |
anyone here think disposition makes you think about winter?
Yea, In a way. |
Makes me think of Spring, actually. Maybe I'm just weird.
|
For me music usually has some season feelings. With Opeth, I feel autumn mostly, with Sigur Ros, winter. Sometimes it's not the music itself, but it's when I first started listening to it. PT's In Absentia makes me feel warm and summery because that's when I really discovered the band.
Tool however is an exception. The only images I get when I try to visualize their music (outside the context of their videos) is some... indescribable holy plane of existence. Or something. |
I've decided that I absolutely hate how The Pot comes right after 10,000 days. I hate it. They have this subdued, moody atmosphere going, and then suddenly this piercing wail comes out of nowhere and ruins it.

I agree, that song should have either came before Wings/10,000 days or later in the album. |
Yeah...
I noticed that too. Lame.
I know I worded that horribly but it is really similar. Except that Danny's china sounds incredibly weak. |
anyone here think disposition makes you think about winter?
Makes me think of Autumn because the leaves change colors and you can watch the weather change. Also I've noticed that on 10,000 Days they always put a soft song after a heavy one or a heavy one after a softer one. Just something with a completely different mood. They have Jambi and then Wings for Marie. They have 10,000 Days and then The Pot. They have Rosetta Stoned and then Intension...it's a bit dynamic I guess. |
I agree, that song should have either came before Wings/10,000 days or later in the album.
I think it should have been 2nd. After Vicarious. |
omg i just saw a best buy ad for 10,000 days on tv. i feel so giddy inside. That was ****in awesome...
|
Got the album today. Not sure how i exactly feel about it yet.I like it,but it just needs time to grow i think. The artwork with those lens things is ****ing amazing.
|
This album just keeps getting better
|
I too got the album today, and I also am not quite sure what I think about it. It could be that I am horribly hung over, and lets face it tool isnt the best hangover cure. I do know that I have found some of the songs to be a bit self-indulgent. I'd say Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot and Right in Two are the stand outs on first listen, but that may change when I get to properly wrap my head around the rest.
|
Ok now reality check..Tool sounds the best when you are high
|
Jambi is fantastic.
|
Had 10,000 days playing all day at work today, its grown on me a bit but i need some more listens yet. Anyone else think that the atmosphere on Wings pt 2 sound strangely like Neurosis, paticularly the songs from "The Eye of Every Storm"
|
Omg.. Wings/10000 days is so beautiful.. I didn't think much of it the first time.. now I'm listening with headphones, have the lyrics out, it's so emotional
:upset: |
I can't wait for this to come out! I have only heard Vicarious, as I am restraining myself from downloading it, but it is so hard! :p
|

Piercing? lol There's nothing piercing about any of MJK's vocals, save for maybe the Third Eye shouting. That is probably the most piercing his vocals have ever been for me, with the backing music. Anyway, I couldn't disagree more. The moody atmosphere has to be broken sometime and after 17 or 18 minutes of Wings sounds like more than enough time to me. |

It may be out early in some shops, that's how I got my copy yesterday |
