1) what is a string dampener?
2) @Wotan: that was the second alternative i thought of, but wouldn't it be easier to mute it with your picking hand instead of mute it with the findertips? |
1 - Like tying a cloth loosely around the nut/first fret so when you let off a note it deadens in
2 - Well, I would say the fret hand way would be better overall because it helps with technique and staying closer to the fretboard. |
@1) this would never came to my mind... great idea, though its impossible when you play "0" :D
@2) it would help a lot, to control the fingers, sure; but the movement is sooo small! you can only lift the finger a little bit: 1mm or something like that... well, i will try both ways. |
1: Haha, it could still work, but it would sound muted.
2: Yeah, it's hard but worth it. To be honest though, it's easier than you'd think. |
I agree with Wotan, don't use a string dampener, they're for gays.
Most of, if not all of your muting should come from proper left hand technique. You should be able to get a clean sweep while not even muting at all with your right hand. It's the way Steve Vai does it and he does it very blatently by having his picking hand real high and far away from the bridge.
The best way to do that is to just barely let off the fret with the fretting hands finger, and mute it that way.
This. |
Ha. I've decided against learning sweeps for a while, except just messing around with them a bit.
This muting you speak of? I always use my right hand on the bridge. |

I know you guys were. My comment wasn't about sweeps though. |
It sounded like it was.
but it's not terribly important. |
No. CoB was great except in your face. at unholy all..... tour

What was wrong with In Your Face?

Overpowered by drums and bass is what he said in the other thread.
NP: Ghoul - Live of The Living Dead (this song/album is amazing) |

I used to have Maniaxe. |
I prefer Maniaxe, you should definitely get it back.
|
I disliked the vocals and production. It was mixed like shit.
|
It don't see at all how it was mixed like shit. That sound suits Ghoul a hell of a lot more than the sound on Splatterthrash.
The production on Splatterthrash took away the bite that was on Maniaxe. |
All the instruments were in the wrong place, and the vocals were way too middy/above the rest.
|
hardly :-\
|
Hum, maybe i'll have to re listen to it again sometime.
|
After thinking things through over a delicious sausage sandwhich, you do have a point concerning the mix. Splatterthrash is probably better in terms of the instrument's position in the mix, but I still think Maniaxe's more suitable guitar tones, drum sound etc is more important.
|
I love sausage so much. It helps everything.
|
it gives people headaches
