I would suspect being on stage, being able to perform the songs you helped create, and creating a certain stage presence that you want to create would be a better experience than just standing in the crowd headbanging/moshing/whatever new dance craze there is. Did you not enjoy it at all?

I moved around a bit and headbanged a little. We played 3 songs written before I joined, which are tech deathcore (yeah haha!) a cover, and new song that was sloppy w/ no core

To answer your question, it's hard to engage a crowd when you're opening a show, it's your first time playing live, and theres a bunch of people who probably hate you because you dont look "metal" enough
