THe lyrics are what MAKE Tool's music. Without them, they'd be just another average band (albeit an average band with a kickass drummer).

Just listening to their instrumentals, the're not very standard band at all. But with the addition of Maynard, to me it gives more depth to their music.
|
I like Opiate a lot. When I do listen to tool, It's usually Opiate to start. :D

The lyrics are often great, but they don't "make" Tool's music. They come much after the rest of the band writes the music. The lyrics are merely there to reinforce what the emotion of the song is. I don't think an average band could have written the album Lateralus. |
I don't think an average band could have written the album Lateralus.
hell even the song. (One of my favs)
|
I know this has probly been asked millions of times on here but when is new Tool expected?
|
hell even the song. (One of my favs)
True. By the way, what the hell is up with your avatar? :p |
I think Lateralus is probably one of my all time favorite songs... I just click with that song... I don't know why... but its perfect.
Faith, you get started on them drums? |
True. By the way, what the hell is up with your avatar?
Its awsome amirite? Figured out Gif files.
Faith, you get started on them drums?
Yeah i have some ideas in my head havnt started recording (Im going to be using my friends house for recording thursday) so you should have them by thursday or friday. Is that soon enough? If not i can try to midi some drum stuff for ya. |
Hm... you think you can get it by Wednesday.. otherwise that could pose a problem for the vocals..
|
Hm... you think you can get it by Wednesday.. otherwise that could pose a problem for the vocals..
Well, I dont know, The click in places with the guitar track screw my timing up (I can feel it better than the click) Is that the final guitar track? if it is could you email me the guitar track without click. I have to work monday, tuesday, and wednesday. But i could see if i could record them Wed night at my buddies house. If not i will hook up the recording gear at my house (Wed night) and if my mixer works i should be able to get a decent quality recording.
But I really need a unclicked Guitar track. Edit @ below: Send me the finished song tommorow if you can. |
No, that is not the final guitar track, its missing a whole rhythm part at the end, and my tone is messed to hell. The bass is being recorded now, I can actually get you a final product by tomorrow, or I could send you the same track you have sept with out the click right now if you wish.

I could make 10 minute songs that are just me farting into a mic, that doesn't make me exceptional. And besides, i was talking average in terms of their musicianship, not in terms of "radio friendly" or not. Adam Jones is an average guitarist; he even admits he's not that great. Justin Chancellor, he's a good bassist, but nothing that any other experienced bassist couldn't do. Danny Carey....well, he's good. He's **** good. Maynard pretty much makes the band. He's practically turned his voice into a trademark--instantly recognizable. And with his (sometimes) insanely complex lyrics and depth as a vocalist, he's what pushes Tool over the edge of exceptionality |

Except, Maynard doesn't write any of the music for guitar, bass, or drums. Try to find a way to listen to some of their songs without the vocals in it. I'd hardly call it "farting into a mic." You could make a 10 minute song that is just you farting into a mic and that doesn't make you exceptional. What kind of argument is that? That has absolutely nothing to do with anything at all. The truth is, songwriting is more important than showing off. Adam has been playing guitar for probably 15 or 20 years. You know what, I'll bet he can shred real fast. Just because he doesn't on their cds, it doesn't mean that he can't. Adam, Justin, and Danny are the ones who lay down the structure of the song and it's only later on that Maynard adds his part to it. He is merely 1/4th of the band. |
Anyone else notice that at times Chevelle's singer sounds a lot like Maynard? I remember the first time I heard one of Chevelle's newer singles I actually thought it was a new Tool single and I started like ****ting my pants and stuff. But then after they moved to the chorus I realized my incorrectness. I then cried and realized that Tool's new album won't be out until spring 2006 or later. :upset:

why did faith get rid of his oversized av?

I downloaded some random Tool song, and it came out as Point #1, a Chevelle song. They sound kind of similar, but come on, you can tell the difference. |

Personally I think Justin is one of the best bassists around... so id throw him in there... and as much as I hate to say it... the guitar work can come across as uninspiring... but i love Tool to death anyway... :) |
Sup Fantomas?
(Just in case you thought I was trying to be original or anything.. .. I wasn't hehe) Fantômas are fun live!.. ... . Terry Bozio's (sp?) drumset is absolutely insane |
Bozzio tours with them? I thought it was Lombardo?

Adam has such a great texture/tone to his guitar that it makes me forget about his mediocre technical skills. |
I remember reading that ( ) has no lyrics, only made-up syllables.
:( So much fro humour. Listen to the first 'words' in untitled 1 |
Havnt been online in ages so is there any news at all about tool?
|
Adam has such a great texture/tone to his guitar that it makes me forget about his mediocre technical skills.
Agreed. Plus hes still a great composer, as in he can come up with some sweet riffs and use effects to create and atmosphere like no other. :thumb:
Havnt been online in ages so is there any news at all about tool?
New cd next week. |
Bozzio tours with them? I thought it was Lombardo?
i believe lombardo was off touring with slayer so bozzio filled in for him. they couldnt have found a better replacement, methinks. |

All the FL ones suck, and I could do with a real sounding set to work with |
Get in line buddy. :p Do you need him for the same project?
|
No, this is merely a long paining need that can wait longer. All i need is a recored snare hit, cymbal hit, etc.
i would take part in one of the song things, but guitar recording, is my nemesis |
Well i have to disagree with you there I cant see how someone could hate lyrics, i can understand people saying "lyrics are over-rated" because i do believe that lyrics arn't the be-all and end-all, in my opinion lyrics and singing are equally as important as music in your standard song, i mean how can someone not love the lyrics in say "reflection" for example, how can you not be inspired by that, how can you not think that the song is made infinatly better with those words, among many others? Its just like the song is made infinatly better by the amazing guitar or drums or bass.
please respond coz you've grabbed my attention now!! PS are you implying that cedric writes amazing lyrics or crap lyrics? i personally love his lyrics, theyre insane!! :thumb:
I do like the lyrics to Reflection, actually. Because I understand that the moon does not emit its own light, but reflects light from the sun. I think that's the "secret" the moon tells to Maynard in the song. Good set of lyrics, but the song is still a bit too long for me. |
