Little Man being Erased 11-22-2006 11:21 PM

Yeah, seriously.

Zappa 11-22-2006 11:31 PM

Why does everyone like Steve Reich?

La Revolucion 11-22-2006 11:31 PM

I like some of Reich's work, but there's a bit that's pointless and stupid.

Eliminator 11-22-2006 11:33 PM

Music for 18 Musicians is hypnotic and nice if I'm in the mood for it.

La Revolucion 11-22-2006 11:42 PM

I basically only like minimalist classical if I'm in the mood for it, like I am right now.

/Philip Glass.

Duran Duran - Greatest

Each DD listening session lasts for days, other times I don't touch the stuff.
Why does everyone like Steve Reich?
His earliest works ("It's Gonna Rain", "Come Out") are truly awful.

But on that note, I've been digging SYR 4.

asdf 11-23-2006 11:16 AM

Clubfoot Orchestra and other Ralph Records things mostly. Gotta love going through my dad's vinyl collection.

The Most Serene Republic- Underwater Cinematographer

Not a band I'd normally expect myself to like, but I'm really diggin' it.

mr_jackalope 11-23-2006 01:56 PM

I can't stand MSR, personally

Lately:
Simon Joyner and the Fallen Men - Skeleton Blues
Neil Young - On the Beach, Harvest
Husker Du - Flip Your Wig
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy Appendix

AlienEater 11-23-2006 04:36 PM

Aphex Twin - Donkey Rhubarb EP

This is much better than I remember, Donkey Rhubarb is a really great song and the Philip Glass Orchestration of Icct Hedral is sweet.

Little Man being Erased 11-23-2006 08:39 PM

The Who - Who's Next

This really is a fantastic rock record. The bonus tracks are cool too.

The Jungler 11-23-2006 08:46 PM

Bright Eyes - Fevers and Mirrors

Superb CD, probably my favorite Bright Eyes record.

Kyle 11-23-2006 08:50 PM

Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan - Ballad of the Broken Seas
Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself
Tallking Heads - Remain In Light

Glitterati 11-23-2006 09:55 PM
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate
whaddya think?

Eliminator 11-23-2006 10:14 PM

it's really good

pulseczar 11-23-2006 10:24 PM

Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong with Love - has some excellent songs, but overall not that great because of the songs like sound like a painfully bland version of pavement.
A Silver Mt Zion - Born into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upwards - rediscovered it recently
Venetian Snares - Cavalcade - like a more lighthearted but equally energetic version of german hardcore techno, good stuff

since i'm banned on sputnik this is my new vehicle for opinions VROOOOM VROOOM

Eliminator 11-23-2006 10:49 PM

vroooom vroooooom
What german hardcore techno can you recommend to me?

pulseczar 11-23-2006 11:56 PM

Alec Empire
Atari Teenage Riot
Hanin Elias
Nic Endo

these aren't actually called german techno hardcore and i don't know if such a term exists looking into it, but i assumed they'd be called something ridiculous like that since it's aggressive, ripping synths with equally aggressive beats. They usually go beyond that at times with some experimentation of course (read my review of Alec Empire's Generation Star Wars for some sort of idea.) Atari Teenage Riot is the group those other three belong to, so i can't say i have very varied recommendations, but i'm happy listening to just them, and a lot of it is very similar to Venetian Snares as i said before.

i shouldve just said atari teenage riot is what they remind me of in the first place...

Zmev 11-24-2006 12:04 AM

Stone Throw Records - Chrome Children

The atmospheric tracks near the end are sweet, plus the Madvillain track.

ATM 11-24-2006 12:09 AM

I still need to grab that.

Eliminator 11-24-2006 12:16 AM

pulse,

"twirl" is an awesome song isn't it

yes suh. the beats almost sound like it's a melody accompanying the little keyboard one in the background.

Kayetan 11-24-2006 12:35 AM

You guys are truly missing out if you don't have Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett.
