Once when I was in Maine, I walked down to the beach at 2:00 am. The was heavy cloud cover and it was in the middle of nowhere. The moon still illuminated the clouds a bit so the sky was very strange looking, but not enough to see where you were going. It was just pitch black and the beach went on forever.
