recap. i called plunger an obscure 90s emo band

pixies said something stupid

i made a joke

someone said emo was a noun

in the way i phrased it it was a noun, but i meant it as an adjective towards plunger.

english majors in the house... :-/

christsimpson 05-20-2009 02:16 AM

ohhh I thought you were saying that genre was an adj sorry

boundbytransience 05-20-2009 03:33 AM

Well isn't "genre" a noun anyway?

christsimpson 05-20-2009 04:13 AM

RetiredAt21 05-20-2009 08:22 AM

Matt? 05-20-2009 10:39 PM

are you through school or what year are you?

boundbytransience 05-20-2009 10:42 PM

I was thinking about majoring in linguistics. It seems really interesting.

Matt? 05-20-2009 10:47 PM

i want to add a photography major but there is none. i might create it though, it's just kind of a process though... i'd have to appeal to the dean and head of the arts department. hm

Liebensaft 05-20-2009 11:10 PM
me? my grades in english courses are fine
The post was intended to be a jocular commentary on the fact that the rigor of the coursework required to obtain an English degree is generally regarded as much easier or less intensive than that of a scientific or mathematics-based degree.

hismajestythepope 05-20-2009 11:36 PM

Oh yeah, sure, I'm sure some people do think that. I don't really know how intense those programs are. English major isn't easy by any means but i find it pretty comfortable. That would be why I'm considering double majors.

Liebensaft 05-21-2009 12:27 AM

Word, dawg.

pixiesfanyo 05-21-2009 02:21 AM

i'm pretty sure it is free in norway. unlike cigarettes which they have to smuggle in from sweden. lol.

christsimpson 05-21-2009 07:22 AM
do norwegian schools not have majors? it's nice that you get in for free though right? i might be thinking of sweden or some ****...
uh I am getting a Bachelor of Engineering. and I don't get in for free. but compared to what you guys pay, it's pretty much "free".

Liebensaft 05-21-2009 11:35 AM

I saw a special on 60 Minutes or something about students in Denmark actually getting paid to go to school as undergrads. That's crazy. I'm getting a bachelor's in chemistry and then shopping for pharmacy schools. Hopefully I'll be able to just stay in Tucson, but I might end up moving someplace else. Maybe back on the east coast. Eh. That's 3 years away.

christsimpson 05-21-2009 12:26 PM

they don't get paid. they just get really beneficial student loans.

Liebensaft 05-21-2009 12:29 PM

Gotcha. Media deception.

IgniteYourAvail 05-21-2009 12:32 PM

Location: Tucson, PA

wat

Liebensaft 05-21-2009 02:17 PM

I'm going to be living in Tucson 9 months or more out of the year for the next 3-6 years. I kind of like it there more. If only all my friends from home lived there.

most of the more socialist countries in europe will have university fees are miniscule, but students will also often receive decent tax breaks (at least in germany) and decent "stipends" for going to school.

whiteminority 05-21-2009 05:14 PM

Chris, you going for a Masters or a JD after undergrad or straight to work or what?

illmitch 05-21-2009 05:27 PM
cool. my school doesn't have a linguistics major, just an english umbrella.

I finished my freshman year about a week ago; I go to the university of kansas. Where do you go?
I was thinking about majoring in linguistics. It seems really interesting.
I definitely recommend it. I mean, I'm a total language nerd - I check out books about, say, German morphology for fun - but I'm having a lot of fun with it. If you combine it with classes in a foreign language, it can be a useful degree as well. I'm doing Arabic and am planning on being a translator.

im hoping to do the peacecorps in africa when i get out but that may be a bit optimistic because I've heard from some people that the africa program is very selective. other people have told me the opposite. from there, idk. probably work for an NGO or non profit or something
