Thanks Bartender :)

I looked in the site forum though, and it's not there...??

Back on topic, I'm listening to Bell Bottom Blues.

I like this song a lot.
"Keep on Growing" is a great song on that album too, one of my all-time favorites.

Jam2Me 03-14-2005 02:16 PM
LOL I just noticed somebody voted for Tom Petty in the best guitarists thread...

sad
:thumb: That was me, I think he's cool as hell...I probably diagree with your list too though.

Broken Arrow 03-14-2005 02:20 PM

Triple Post!

I just found out my dad has Traffic-Welcome to the Canteen on viynl.

Is it any good Lunch? My record player is broken.

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 02:23 PM

Traffic is hella good. Is Welcome to the Canteen the album with percussionist Reebop Kwaku Baah?

Leper 03-14-2005 02:25 PM
:thumb: That was me, I think he's cool as hell...I probably diagree with your list too though.
I think Petty's awesome too but i don't really consider him an exceptionally great guitarist. Maybe he is, and just doesn't try as hard as others. ;)

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 02:25 PM

Yeah, that vinyl is sweet. Forty Thousand Headmen and Dear Mr. Fantasy are masterpieces of early prog/psych rock. I like Medicated Goo as well :thumb: .

magicbus 03-14-2005 02:26 PM
Edit- Oh yeah Magicbus, That Eleventh House is really really good.
Glad you like it :thumb:

Jam2Me 03-14-2005 02:26 PM

Yeah I was pretty mich voting for my favorites. I voted for Jack Johnson, Dylan, and probly some others who are not that great.

I got that today, it's awesome, I bet you guys would all like it.

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 02:27 PM

Toots and the Maytals rock.

Yes it is.

Yesterday I got Rusted Root-When I woke. Send Me On My Way make so happy.

Distant Echoes 03-14-2005 02:44 PM

This threads getting slow....

Today me and my friend argued over wether the 70s or 80s were a better decade for music, and i strictly stuck to 70s.

Id like to hear your arguements too...to pass some time

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 02:47 PM

70s, although I love Rush. I also admit to owning a Duran Duran album ;) .

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 02:48 PM
Yes it is.
Nice, that album rocks. You should consider purchasing Shootout at Fantasy Factory.

The 70's were high points for bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. There really wern't any bands out in the 80's changing rock and roll bands sound the way those guys did.

No, Phish totally changed the face of rock and roll by boosting the jam band scene in the mid eighties.

Broken Arrow 03-14-2005 02:54 PM

60's>70's>80's

Rush was in the 70's too.

Yeah, but their apex was around 1981 or 82 with the release of Moving Pictures.

Well thats true, but Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbaths influences can still be heard today. There really arn't many mainstream jam bands out so their influence unfortunetly kind of died.

I didn't say no good bands came out then, but not many left a very long lasting impression.

I understand, but DMB was definitely influenced buy Phish, and they are more or less mainstream, as well as the fortunately late Spin Doctors <cringe>.

PinkFreud 03-14-2005 03:07 PM
One of the arguments I've seen people use against Hendrix, is that he isn't nearly as fast as any of the top guitarists in the world. Truth is, I've seen a few DVD's of him playing live, where he is playing a lot faster than anyone else I have ever seen play the blues. Blues solos are generally slower than shred solos, so he may not seem that fast...but I'm pretty sure if he actually wanted to, he could practice up and shred with the best of them. Maybe not as fast as some of the guitarists around today, but pretty close. He can play pretty **** fast when he wants to (faster than I've seen SRV play the blues, or any other blues/blues rock artist)

So basically, what I'm saying..is that not only was Hendrix a great songwriter, creative and innovative guitarist, he also had amazing speed which is something most people oversee when just listening to his studio albums.
exactly what i always say. he also plays pretty fast in come on (part 2). people need to keep in mind that its greatest and not best because there is a difference there. plus, his solos are more complex than people give him credit for because of all the little nuances he throws in.

Yea, I would consider DMB along with Blues Traveler and OAR to be mainstream jam bands.

I do agree there is a very small comback in Jam Bands, I hope it keeps up.

The jam band scene does seem to be doing fairly well as of late, though those three bands are the only ones I would consider mainstream.

Ben Harper is doing pretty well for himself.

This is why I am happy for the Phish breakup...they were becoming way too mainstream. To me, a mainstram jam band is kind of contradictory.

I think that's silly. You sound like those stupid tr00 black metal bands that produce a limited amount of cd's just to stay tr00.

Yeah, after reviewing my post I admit I did sound like a dimwit...after all this is a Classic Rock thread. But do you kind of get the jest of what I'm trying to say?

I'm not sure. I just don't think a band's popularity or fan base should determine its genre.

funkybeeatch14 03-14-2005 03:27 PM

Well, there's another reason Phish was so frustrated after 21 years...the fan base started growing but only towards the influence of drugs and not towards the actual music. When I look at some of the Phans in my community, some of them care about the music but others are in it for the drugs.

Totally off topic...back to classic rock. :thumb:

Distant Echoes 03-14-2005 03:39 PM

I saw Skeletons in the Closet - Grateful Dead on sale for less then $10 at Best Buy. Ill probably pick it up next time i go.

NP: GD - Hell in a Bucket

Are you new around here? Or just a new name?

You may find that no one is gonna hassle you for getting slightly off topic in here. Especially if you talk about things that relate closely to classic rock (such as drugs).

If you are new....welcome to the Classic Rock thread. First good n00b we've had in a while.

I just had a picture of a bonsai tree on my computer. I just edited it down to the right size. You can just do a search on the net, and come up with lots of sites with good avatars.

I wish Creedence would post here more, I liked his Dylan avatar. Slowhand needs to post more too.

jpj 03-14-2005 03:56 PM

Does anyone know who did the song Don't Do It originally?

Distant Echoes 03-14-2005 03:58 PM

my avator looked really sweet before i put it on here...it really looks like **** now.

I liked my lightning/Prism one most though

Anyway...are their any good classic rock artist touring now. Ive heard some talk about Yes, Van Halen, and that AC/DC & Rolling Stones will tour again soon

jpj 03-14-2005 04:02 PM

Well, Van Halen, Yes, Rush, Deep Purple, and Aerosmith all toured last summer/early fall. The Allmans have been going to festivals and stuff like they do every year and will most likely tour this summer.
