br3ad_man 07-12-2006 03:01 PM

Yeah **** Italy.

Little Man, you can still see a pretty decent amount of Sonic Youth or DJ Shadow even if you decide to watch the full set of one of them. It's not like the Stooges/Mars Volta clash at BDO, that sucked.

Little Man being Erased 07-12-2006 03:08 PM

Yeah, I'll wait and see what happens. If Sonic Youth are really good I'll watch all of their set, then head to Shadow, but I might try and catch all of DJ Shadow's set if I'm not really digging the Youth.

I'll probably be seeing most of the same bands as you, except I'll probably see The Presets instead of Jose. And I might try to catch a little bit of the Scissor Sisters before Brian Wilson.
finally seeing a scanner darkley on friday
I only want to see it because it's set in Anaheim mo' fucka

The Jungler 07-13-2006 02:35 PM

I was gonna see it on friday too, but my dad's gonna be in New York so I have no ride. Looks good though, I wish they got someone more talented rather than Reeves. Ed Norton maybe?

Little Man being Erased 07-13-2006 02:39 PM

what the hell is a scanner darkley or whatever?

Interstate 07-13-2006 02:44 PM
what the hell is a scanner darkley or whatever?
I was thinking the same thing.

superpeer 07-13-2006 02:52 PM

Maybe it's a scanner for scanning dark things. Like black paper.

NP: Cypress Hill - We ain't goin' out like that

The Jungler 07-13-2006 02:53 PM

It's a sci-fi movie based on a book by Phillip K. Dick, it's in select theatres or whatever. Most cities have a "select" theatre, check the hipster hideouts and then the ghetto.

It features new tunes from Radiohead :salivate:

superpeer 07-13-2006 02:54 PM

Or that...

Little Man being Erased 07-13-2006 03:28 PM

Both options sound interesting.

Daniel! 07-13-2006 03:32 PM

So I just watched Dead Alive, and it's most likely the hardest that I have ever laughed. Who knew Peter Jackson was so cool?

Robert Crumb 07-13-2006 03:46 PM

They played Jackson's Meet the Feebles at the Crest Theater downtown a week or two ago, part of the Trash Films thing they do. Or whatever it's called. I wanted to go see it because, you know, shit talkin' muppets. But I forgot. What's Dead Alive about?

Edit: Oops, I guess it's this Saturday. Read about it a couple weeks ago.

Daniel! 07-13-2006 03:50 PM

It's basically just a guy and his girlfriend chopping up a bunch of zombies. I haven't heard of this Trash Films thing. Is it a weekly event?

ATM 07-13-2006 03:53 PM
yo Dirty Limon is actually pretty good.
:-D Thanks man.

I'm gonna whore the link again:
It's basically just a guy and his girlfriend chopping up a bunch of zombies. I haven't heard of this Trash Films thing. Is it a weekly event?
Yeah, every Sat.

Next week: Frankenhooker.

Daniel! 07-13-2006 03:58 PM

I might have to check that out some time. The only time I've been to Crest is to see Bruce Cambell do a showing of The Man With the Screaming Brain, or something like that. The movie wasn't anything special, but I got to see Bruce Cambell in person, so I was happy.

Robert Crumb 07-13-2006 04:06 PM

It's a nice little theater. I like to go when I have time during the day, avoid people and all.

Bruce Campbell was at Borders like a year ago for his book tour. I wanted to go but I wouldn't have had anything for him to sign. I guess I could have bought his book.

Daniel! 07-13-2006 04:13 PM

I don't think I have his new book, but I did buy If Chins Could Kill about a year ago and it's good. It's mostly about how he and Sam Raimi made the Evil Dead's and various other things. His writing style is enjoyable enough that it doesn't really matter what he's talking about, though.

Glitterati 07-13-2006 04:36 PM

I read If Chins Could Kill on vacation a few weeks back, it was hilarious. I liked how he showed all his old school photos and underneath it said stuff like "Look out, ladies!"

Robert Crumb 07-14-2006 03:59 PM

If Chins Could Kill was the one he was touring for, I think.

Bought tickets to go see Os Mutantes today. And just looked at the new Last.Fm, pretty neat. I'm not sure I like the pictures next to the recently played thingie, though.

Kyle 07-14-2006 04:05 PM

I bought Muse tickets today, I'm seeing them twice this year, so I hope they live up to their outstanding live reputation.

I also wrote a review, think I'm gonna get back into the swing of reviewing. I'm gonna plug it now, because it got virtually no attention and I don't want to bump it myself!

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=8198#lastpost

Robert Crumb 07-14-2006 04:11 PM

Muse were nice fun when I saw them. They played a little Deftones' "My Own Summer" segue which everybody here loved because this is the Deftones' home town.

Kyle 07-14-2006 04:18 PM

Sounds cool, I've never been a huge fan of them, but their new album is my favorite release this year, it really took me by suprise.

superpeer 07-14-2006 04:22 PM

Muse are awesome live.

br3ad_man 07-14-2006 04:29 PM

They were pretty awesome when I saw them 2 years ago.

Zappa 07-14-2006 05:11 PM

So I got back from UofM just a bit ago. I was there for orientation. It was a drag of a couple days, but I have a schedule.

I'm taking Intro To Computer Music, Piano 111, Music Theory 139 (written), Music Theory 149 (aural), Calculus I, Private Trumpet Lessons, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Lab Band, for 18 credits.

I will either drop trumpet lessons, or jazz lab band. I've got 6 credits devoted to trumpet study, and that's a lot of focus on something that isn't my main concern. I am in Performing Arts Technology; intro to computer music is the only class within the discipline that people in my major take their first semester. Despite the fact that it's just one course, I want to focus on the PAT related stuff I'll be learning. Having that much invested in trumpet performance—which is fun, but nothing I'm extremely good at or passionate about—will distract me from that more important goal.

Your first year looks to be awesome, save Calc, but I guess you'd enjoy that too. I don't have a lot to look forward to this year, so I'm hoping to get a slot in Basic Kanji before school starts. If I do I'd definitely have a lot less to complain about, like night classes.

ATM 07-14-2006 09:43 PM

Zappa I'm taking Intro to Computer Music in the fall
