*checks out Warning*

Txus 02-14-2007 09:39 AM

Never heard of Warning, I will definitely look for them.

the2stranger 02-14-2007 10:24 AM
i never got a fan of traditional doom metal; i only like funeral and death-doom metal :D

I like me some traditional doom at times as well though.

Shattered_Future 02-14-2007 10:26 AM

Man, the torrent for Warning isn't working...

*grumble*

pate 02-14-2007 01:14 PM

Traditional doom is my favorite. I enjoy funeral, and am quickly becoming a big fan of death-doom.

Would one of you gents care to upload some Warning?

pixiesfanyo 02-15-2007 02:29 PM

Angel Eyes - Something to Do with Death

Kind of a mesh of post-metal, doom, and black metal.

Really good.

They have a myspace.

Seconded. Rep for he who does, and e-secks.

I just checked them out, and I thought they were fucking awesome.

pixiesfanyo 02-15-2007 03:44 PM

Yeah, the record is good.

Kage 02-15-2007 03:51 PM

Angel Eyes is like a lesser version of Rosetta.

Rosetta reminded me alot of Isis when I heard them.

Angel Eyes only reminds me a tad of Isis.

Bartender.

Anyone listen to Mourning Beloveth? I have The Sullen Sulcus, and it's one of the better doom albums I've got in the last couple of months.

Jondur 02-16-2007 06:50 AM

Please don't upload any Warning albums. I know the guy who runs the label and he works hard and puts a lot of his own money into these releases. stealing from bands and underground labels is not cool.

Here's an old demo track http://www.miskatonic.cc/WARNING.mp3
and last time I checked there was a sample from the new album on the Miskatonic Myspace page.

If you like it then buy the album (If can't find a distro let me know and I'll give you contact details). Trust me you will not be disappointed.

jva 02-16-2007 07:37 AM

I really like Mourning Beloveth. I thought that the vocalist is the same guy from My Dying Bride, they really sound the same.

Jondur 02-16-2007 07:54 AM

There's two guys singing in Mourning Beloveth. Darren, who does the growls and Frank who does the clean vox. Frank is also in Old Season who are ace.

jva 02-16-2007 08:29 AM

Than it's Frank who I found sounding similar to Aaron Stainthorpe from My Dying Bride. I should be on the lookout for Old Season then. Thanks for the tip.

Jondur 02-16-2007 08:52 AM

Cool. I think the main difference between the two is that Frank can actually carry a tune.

You'll like Old Season. Great band.

Iron Bars 02-16-2007 09:54 AM

Is Old Season Traditional doom or Death/Doom?

Jondur 02-16-2007 10:26 AM

Neither. They're epic metal with keyboards and an overall celtic feel.

I've heard a few songs from that album and they're really good. I'm planning on buying it soon.

Shattered_Future 02-16-2007 02:24 PM

Mourning Beloveth are pretty sweet. I remember NJMetalMeister whoring them out about...wow, almost a year ago, I think.

pate 02-16-2007 08:09 PM

Aaron can carry a tune...about as far as he could throw me, but he's still the man.

knuckleduster 02-16-2007 08:26 PM

I like his voice and stuff but what's with all the cracks? I guess it could add the feeling of agony to the music but listening to the live version of Your River makes me doubt that it's done on purpose. But then I have heard other bands do it as well, like While Heaven Wept. Is it common for doom singers voices to crack?

Shattered_Future 02-16-2007 10:01 PM

Aaron's a decent vocalist, but yeah, I have noticed his pitchiness on more than one occasion.

Shattered_Future 02-16-2007 10:42 PM

Yes, double post, but Solitude Aeternus is a TERRIFIC band. Their singer actually can carry a tune, which I haven't been able to find with a lot of doom. He reminds me a bit of Mats from Therion.

knuckleduster 02-16-2007 10:44 PM

Hey Shattered Future, do you ever listen to Ahab?

the2stranger 02-17-2007 09:56 AM

Ahab. \m/
They're in my top 3 funeral doom bands.

and I think Lowe will fit Candlemass better then Messiah.
I never got the big fuzz about Messiah.
I liked Johan better.
Epicus Doomicus Metallicuus is such a great album.

pate 02-17-2007 10:21 AM

Johan is miles ahead of Messiah, but Rob Lowe is miles ahead of both of them.

Chances are, I'll get to meet/hang out with Rob, and the rest of SA in two months. :p

Txus 02-17-2007 10:23 AM

I love Messiah :(

Apocalyptic Raids 02-17-2007 10:27 AM

There is no way there will ever be anyone who could possibly fit Candlemass better than Messiah.

pate 02-17-2007 10:38 AM

I just don't like his vocals all that much.

Awesome.
Why is that?
I just don't like his vocals all that much.
^
That, I enjoy Messiah, but his style just isn't my favorite.
I love the occasional high pitches he pulls off though.
I wish I could do that. :(

Shattered_Future 02-17-2007 12:37 PM
Hey Shattered Future, do you ever listen to Ahab?
I tried once. I'm not that terribly big into funeral doom...I can listen to Shape Of Despair once in a while, but it's not something I'll listen to on a regular basis.

I thought the guy from Ahab used way too much reverb on his vocals, but other than that, they were pretty sweet.

the2stranger 02-17-2007 12:38 PM

I enjoy his vocals even though I can't tell what he's singing 90% of the time.

pate 02-17-2007 02:46 PM
Awesome.

They're co-headlining one night of a festival I'm going to...and all the bands stay in the hotel I'm staying in and party with everybody. :p
Ahab. \m/
They're in my top 3 funeral doom bands.
Sweet, man. What are your top 3?

Jondur 02-19-2007 04:10 AM
Their singer actually can carry a tune, which I haven't been able to find with a lot of doom.
There's loads of doom bands with great singers:

Penance (check out spiritualnatural - Butch is one of my favourite singers)
Solstice - both vocalists were great
While Heaven Wept - and he can pull it off live. He did one bad gig that I've heard of.
Candlemass
Thunderstorm
Mirror of Deception
Well of Souls (US)
Dennis cornelius era Revelation
etc etc.

Doom is built on great vocals

the2stranger 02-19-2007 04:38 PM
Sweet, man. What are your top 3?
Shape Of Despair, Ahab and Fallen I think.
Not too sure though, cause almost all funeral doom rules. \m/
