If there's one thing that I really like about this thread is that no one talks about Children of Bodom in here.

The Dark Philosopher 09-17-2005 07:34 PM

Anyone heard of Heimdall I here their supposed to be really good

Nah, they've already got a huge thread dedicated to them, I don't think they also need to be here.

And does anyone happen to know anything about Iced Earth on tour?

The Hatecrew have their own thread. This one belongs to the War Council.
I met Herman, Sam AND Vadim
Last week I met The Misfits.

This week I met Dave and Vadim from Dragonforce, and nearly Sam but I wussed out of saying anything to him and let him walk by.

Next week I could meet Nevermore, I just need to find a way of getting to Dudley...

-er

There are some really good folk metal bands that sound like power metal. Such as Ensiferum and Wintersun. Both great bands. I've been getting into alot of power metal lately, and now its my favorite genre. Has anyone mentioned Sonata Arctica?

Steerpike 09-18-2005 08:08 AM
Has anyone mentioned Sonata Arctica?
Repeatedly. Just not for the last few pages.

I'm not as into them as others around here, but I think they just need time to grow on me.

Sonata Arctica are one of my fave. Power Metal bands.

Shattered_Future 09-18-2005 08:48 AM

Sonata Arctica is quite brilliant...their guitarist has some great solos.

Kronos 09-18-2005 09:28 AM
Sonata Arctica is quite brilliant...their guitarist has some great solos.
I like SA too, but I don't think they'll ever be my fave - the earlier albums esp. I can only listen to a few tracks without wanting a break from the "dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada" rhythms and Tony's verbal diarrhoea...
I like it when they slow the pace a tad, or do one of their great ballads

Hells Bells 09-18-2005 10:03 AM

I like Sonata Arctica, but it'll probably take me a bit to get into them. I didn't really get into metal until like a year ago if that, and since then I've had like a million bands thrown in my face...it'll take a while to get through them all.

Stoic 09-18-2005 10:12 AM

I now OWN Requiem - The Arrival :D
Who ever wants a link to a song or two e-mail me ;)

Kronos 09-18-2005 10:19 AM

Power metal? That I don't have? I'm always up for that Stoic

Stoic 09-18-2005 10:50 AM

thank you for your interest :)

I would say they're closer to prog than to power although their sound is based on the euro power formula. I would cautiously say that the album I own (their debut) is rather immature compared to the other two and especially their new one. Still, it's full of smart proggy parts and very enjoyable in overall. One of the two songs I've uploaded is the best of the album by far and closer I believe to the recent and most mature Requiem. Anyway, I think they worth some attention!

You'll have an e-mail as soon as the second upload is done ;)

I agree...Elliptica is one of My favourite PM albums.

I just found a brilliant bit in an SA song.
on Blinded no more, where at 1:18 it just stops and then starts again with this amazing little guitar part.

Kronos 09-18-2005 11:38 AM

I've got all their albums, and Reckoning Night is my fave by far. Second place for me would be Silence

Reakoning Night is one of the best cds I own truly great.

The Dark Philosopher 09-18-2005 11:41 AM

Cant get into the old stuff to much like Strata.

Lord Abortion 09-18-2005 11:48 AM

I'm really liking SA's "the gun" at the moment, it's really catchy.

Thor 09-18-2005 11:49 AM

Just wondering, do SA write really cheesy lyrics?

Shattered_Future 09-18-2005 11:54 AM

Course...they're power metal. :p

Their lyrics have a fair amount of cheese to them.

Well I can stand the cheese factor for a while, but there are certain bands that just have waaaaayyy too much of it that I can't listen to it.

Yeah, the lyrics to Don't Say A Word are pretty chilling (my fave on the album) and also the whole album is more varied, plus Tony's voice seems to get ever better. I'm glad their latest album is my favourite; it's awful when bands you like's output gets worse and worse.....

Yea its nice to see a band keep evolving getting better and better hopefully their next album will be even better.

What does this actually mean? Are you comparing to 'popular' metal all whining about lost loves and teen angst stories of drugs and death? I prefer lyrics with a little more flare, uniqueness, and ingenuity to them, even if that means Dragons and Swords.

I don't think he meant anything against it.

Most of us here love our cheesy PM lyrics.

No, I'm saying power metal generally has cheesy lyrics.

I never said there was anything wrong with that.

Arucard 09-18-2005 01:31 PM

Cheese is in the eye of the beholder, amirite?

Shattered_Future 09-18-2005 01:39 PM

Absolutely.

It's particularly funny when the bands take themselves seriously about it too...like many of today's black metal groups.
