That's a rather fine list Mr Tender. It certainly gets my stamp of approval.

A Goonie 01-05-2005 11:36 AM
I went shopping today, with a big list of stuff I'd been vaguely thinking about buying, and came back with 16 new CDs..but only one of them was on the list. Bloody sales. Anyway, I got;

Ben Harper - Fight For Your Mind
Bjork - Homogenic
The Eagles - Hotel California
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Interpol - Antics
Jimmy Nail - Growing Up In Public (the one on the list)
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain
Portishead - Dummy
The Rat Pack - A Night On The Town With..
The Roots - Phrenology
Weezer - The Blue Album
The Wildhearts - Fishing For Luckies
The Wildhearts - Riff After Riff
The Wildhearts - The Wildhearts Strike Back

All of which will undergo diggin' over the next few days. At the moment though, I'm digging the Naked Gun boxed set, which I also bought.
Never heard of The Wildhearts. Who can you compare them too?

asymm 01-05-2005 03:12 PM

Picked up The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds on full-stereo vinyl yesterday... that's been spinning...

biografiend 01-05-2005 04:12 PM
Never heard of The Wildhearts. Who can you compare them too?
They're a rock and roll band, with few fans on MX. Most of the bands I could compare them to would be really unknown rock bands, so it wouldn't help. Since the band are very open with fans, influences are easier; Stiff Little Fingers, Cheap Trick, Husker Du, Big Black, The ****ed, The Beatles, The Replacements, The Clash, The Ramones, Blue Oyster Cult.

br3ad_man 01-05-2005 08:19 PM

Isis
The Flaming Lips
Interpol

Tangy zizzle 01-05-2005 10:38 PM

Bold statement warning:

Tim Kasher is possibly(probably) the best songwriter in ze world.

Tomahawk 01-05-2005 10:41 PM

Bold question: Who?

Tangy zizzle 01-05-2005 10:43 PM

The dude from Cursive.

Actually, I'll retract. Nick Cave is better, but Kasher is rather goodly.

Tapeworm 01-05-2005 11:50 PM

Kasher is the freakin goods.

br3ad_man 01-06-2005 12:30 AM

The guy from the Goo Goo Dolls is one of the best songwriters ever

*gets shot by everyone on mx*

YDload 01-06-2005 01:00 AM

Johnny Rzeznzizkzzz (Rzeznik)? Yeah, I think he's good at making power ballads for the 90s generation.

Lowend 01-06-2005 01:03 AM

rufus wainwright - the art teacher

now that i've found that song, i've been listening to it constantly. it's so **** wonderful. the haunting piano, the powerful vocals. the desperate lyrics. ahhhh

Happymeal 01-06-2005 06:24 AM

Just dl'ed 2 JR Ewing albums, so I've been digging those.

pixiesfanyo 01-06-2005 06:31 AM

Tangy you should listen to The Good Life, it is like Cursive only neater.

(Tim is in it)

Ornery Cephalopod 01-06-2005 08:05 AM

Bought Isis - Panopticon and Brian Wilson - Smile yesterday. So I've been rocking to those. And I've been digging the menu music on my new Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVDs. DVD menus don't get much better than that.

I also went on a Pink Floyd listening spree, as it'd been a while since I spun any. Atom Heart/Meddle/Dark Side/Wish You Were Here/Animals.

And now I'm jammin' the Beulah.

The Ashtray Girl 01-06-2005 08:07 AM

Brian Wilson is awesome :thumb:

Tomahawk 01-06-2005 08:09 AM

I've been on a Pink Floyd spree too. I watched the Wall yesterday, and that got me in the mood.

Also I've been listening to Atmosphere.

The Ashtray Girl 01-06-2005 09:11 AM

I'm currently going on a Street Spirit rampage, I'm downloading every live, acoustic and cover version of it that I can find. It's fantastic!

theredwonder 01-06-2005 01:07 PM

The Walkmen
Bright Eyes
Idlewild
Interpol

Master Arkam Kannon 01-06-2005 02:22 PM

Melt Banana
Lightning Bold
Boredoms
King Krimson

Tangy zizzle 01-06-2005 07:04 PM

Lightning Bolt are so so so good.

Just listened to Gentleman. I appreciate that band more and more after every listen to their records.

Well_Respected_Man 01-06-2005 07:59 PM

I'm finnaly getting into into more material from Nucleus which I should have done a long time ago having liked Elastic Rock so much. So I gave Roots a listen and I'm really impressed. My dad used to have this record hanging on the wall when I was little and the cover always freaked me out, it's cool that ten years laters I'll be digging that album on the wall.

Little Man being Erased 01-06-2005 09:10 PM

Mainly Bjork lately. Vespertine is creeping up my list of all time favourite albums, I'd say it has made it to the top 20 already.

biografiend 01-06-2005 10:06 PM
King Krimson
heh. i'm downloading one of their albums right now.

I've also been digging the Mahavishnu Orchestra lately as well.

Master Arkam Kannon 01-06-2005 11:13 PM

best hot snakes album anyone?

br3ad_man 01-07-2005 01:32 AM

Yesterday I listened to all four of my Flaming Lips albums at least twice each. Today I'm just listening to Blink 182 again.

br3ad_man 01-07-2005 02:27 AM

I think I'm turning into one of those "Soft Bulletin" fanboys.

YDload 01-07-2005 02:28 AM

But they're so determined.

asymm 01-07-2005 02:55 AM

David Bowie
Camera Obscura
The Church

OrbDragon 01-07-2005 05:30 AM

The Swans are amazing. Everyone should know that.

Tapeworm 01-07-2005 06:21 AM

Been listening to Bob, Nick Cave and Johnny Cash. The men.

Bartender 01-07-2005 12:12 PM

I've been listening to Interpol - Antics (which is pretty good), Jimmy Nail - Growing up in Public (which has Jimmy Nail and is therefore excellent), and Weezer's Blue Album, which turned out to be broken.

Tangy zizzle 01-07-2005 05:21 PM
best hot snakes album anyone?
That would be Suicide Invoice.

geenat 01-07-2005 05:44 PM
Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain
I just bought this a few weeks ago. May change with mood, but I like this style more than Kind of Blue. And I love the cover art. Of the Gil Evans collabs, is this one of the best?

Zappa 01-07-2005 08:54 PM

I like the "Porgy & Bess" album better than "Sketches of Spain," as far as Miles/Evans goes. "Miles Ahead" is significant since it is their first collaboration, but it isn't anything outstanding. Their last album, "Quiet Nights" is pretty lame.

Happymeal 01-07-2005 09:03 PM

I'm starting to love The Aquabats. And Euphone.
