I think Iron Maiden have what I call "Rolling Stones Syndrome".

Basically, they are around for ages, break every country they go to, have a huge worldwide fan base, and influence bands for years to come, but for some reason the media won't recognize them as a sellable rock band.

Saw them on the DOD tour. Very cool. It's quite strange that Eddie kept getting bigger. He couldn't even fit on the stage by the end of the night! lol

dive bombing is, as someone said, swinging the trem bar about 180 degrees roundto make a well, diving sound with the noise. thinking of it like an extreme string bend, but in the other direction (down the scale not up it). sliding down the strings with a fretting hand is, oddly enough, a slide.

i saw something on scuzz tv news section today.... iron maiden drummer nicko McBAIN in court.... i'm more shocked by scuzz's ignorance than the article

Huh? Naw naw, you push down on the bar for a dive bomb, there's no swinging action involved!

FrailandBedazzled1979 09-13-2004 01:17 AM
So, this is another What Maiden songs are bad?" situation? Unfair questions...the only bad Maiden song is Tailgunner.
how so? Tailgunner was one of the first 3 Maiden songs that got me into the band and i still think a staple in their career, keeping strong after the classic lineup was altered when H left. Excellent song that was titled after a porno movie brurce and steve saw and decided the lyrics should be about air warfare lol. why dont you like it? its a great uplifting Maiden tune that id love to hear live!

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 02:45 AM

No,
best Maiden song is Hallowed be thy name by far,
closest contenders are;
The trooper,
Powerslave,
Iron Maiden,
Dream of mirrors,

THus speaks the lord...

IRON MAIDEN Guitarist Admits Band Used Leftover Ideas

According to a posting on the IRON MAIDEN fan site MaidenFans.com, MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith has ended years of fan speculation by revealing that the 2000 album "Brave New World" featured leftovers from the 1998 CD "Virtual XI". Asked in a 2003 interview to identify the four songs that were written during the sessions for "Virtual XI" that ended up on its follow-up, Smith said "'Nomad' is one of them. The others are 'Dream of Mirrors', 'Mercenary', I can't remember the fourth one."

The interviewer, Kevin Lomax, had the following to say about the issue: "I did the interview in the Sanctuary Music London after a brief preview of the 'Dance of Death' album. The interview was with Adrian Smith. I had fears before asking that question, because maybe Steve Harris might have said 'Don't tell.' Anyway, I asked and he said that 'Nomad' (which I'm surprised), 'Dream of Mirrors' (not surprised in any way!) and 'Mercenary' (the worst song of 'BNW' from 'Virtual XI', that's obvious!) were from 'Virtual XI'. He couldnt remember the fourth one. And I asked if 'Blood Brothers' could be one of them, because it has similar melodies [to] 'Educated Fool'. He said no, it was not. He thought for a while but he couldnt remember the fourth. (Maybe didnt want to answer)

"I had a quick chat with [former IRON MAIDEN singer] Blaze [Bayley] in Istanbul, before his performance in Rock The Nations Istanbul. (Where he did a duet with Paul Di'Anno) And in that chat he said that he had written some of the lyrics of 'Dream of Mirrors' but Steve didn't give him a credit for that in 'BNW'. When he saw that he [was a bit frustrated]."

the left overs from virtual x prob their worst album were used for brave new world one of their best album  lol

YJM 09-13-2004 11:31 AM

lol BNW is an AWESOME album man. Personally I believe Blaze's time in the band, was their worst and the 4 songs you stated being from the album prior to BNW, VirtualX, are lucky to be spared from being on that album, because atleast they can have Bruce singing them and giving them the standard they need.

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 11:39 AM

Worst maiden album is no prayer..
excepting Bring your daughter
Best Blaze songs not many but,
Sign of the cross,
Lord of the flies,
Possibly Futureal but that is scraping the barrel...

DimebagDarrell 09-13-2004 11:48 AM

no way no prayer for the dying is a great album

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 11:58 AM
no way no prayer for the dying is a great album
Just my opinion but i just thought they tried to break it down into "back to the metal roots " too much maybe i'm just screwed up
I don't much like piece of mind as one of my favourites either!
But it's still better than most other music...

Firecracker 09-13-2004 12:03 PM

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 12:13 PM

YJM 09-13-2004 12:18 PM

DimebagDarrell 09-13-2004 12:34 PM

piece of mind is my favorite just something about that album i really like

YJM 09-13-2004 12:35 PM

It's sheer amazingness lol :P. It contains alot of songs that are based on historical matters, which I tend to like more.

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 12:41 PM
Gd call man Powerslave is my personal fave, some classics on that, just annoys me that they seldom play that stuff live :( lol.
yeah i know I saw them on the DOD tour no Powerslave songs at all!
BUT... can Bruce handle Aces High nowadays?
No 2 minutes= not the best set they could have done

YJM 09-13-2004 12:46 PM

^

lol GD call man Aces High is harsh lol I think if they did the song first he'd be ab;e to as his voice would be very fresh u know? sucks about the lack of PS songs lol :(.

Lord Abortion 09-13-2004 01:26 PM
I honestly do not care what songs they play live. I mean come on. ITS IRON MAIDEN!
Yeah... too true

nafan 09-13-2004 02:19 PM

im not that keen on powerslave. i prefer most of the other albums i dont know it is my newest one but it dosnt seem to have anything that paticualrly excites me about it. 2 minits live is great but the album just passes off without me noticing any track cange

GurS 09-13-2004 03:16 PM

they should do "mariner" live again... bruce definatly cannot hit the highs of "aces high", and struggles with the scream on "notb" aswell...

the songs which, as far as i can see, are staples of all maiden shows:

2 minutes to midnight
the trooper
number of the beast
run to the hills
hallowed be thy name
fear of the dark
one song from "seventh son"
iron maiden
"sanctuary" or "running free"

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-13-2004 06:20 PM

Paschendale is one of there best.

HondoII 09-13-2004 09:46 PM

oh how I wish I could find a Lado Earth 2000-2 guitar for much less than $2000 :/

CreepingBlack 09-14-2004 12:31 AM

led_zep_luvr 09-14-2004 12:32 AM
