Dr. Jake Destructo 07-11-2007 10:59 PM

Is the double bass played with a bow? If so, then we're talking about different parts.

And Kage you think that about every band, I'm pretty sure. Even Zorn.

Kage 07-11-2007 11:02 PM

Yeah the part I'm talking about is the bow part.

Hahaha, true, true.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-11-2007 11:10 PM

still awesome, but I prefer the first entrance.

And yeah I was definitely wrong about the end of Aura, definitely not improvised. Good none the less, especially during the overdriven bass/drum thrashing/feedback section. Vicious.

Also, is it confirmed that Kayo Dot's next record will be released on Hydra Head?

If so, epic. Boris too. Epic.

Kage 07-11-2007 11:19 PM

Did you watch it on the video? Ten times better live imo.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-11-2007 11:22 PM

Too busy blasting ___ On Limpid Form tbh

Kage 07-11-2007 11:28 PM

That song is horrifying really loud. The way they build that long droning passage up is beyond description.

And I love the choir voices in the "songy" part of it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-11-2007 11:34 PM

Kingly Ships in Ecstacy..or something

Oh yes my friend. The imagery is brilliant.

And yeah, I got scared after the second percussion loudass thing came in on Limpid.

antihippy 07-11-2007 11:35 PM

i haven't look into kayo dot, but maudlin of the well was very good.

boris is pretty good too. i was actually pretty surprised to see them in the record store. what album should i get first?

Kage 07-11-2007 11:36 PM

Akuma No Uta, I guess.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-11-2007 11:36 PM

By Boris or Kayo Dot?

Oh well.

Choirs of the Eye is easier to digest for Kayo Dot. I'd say Rainbow or Pink for some good rawkin' Boris. If you want the more amazing side, I suggest you get torched and give Feedbacker a listen.

Good idea, except instead of Pink, Akuma No Uta.

antihippy 07-12-2007 12:09 AM

i'll get akuma no uta the next time i go CD shopping.

Zebra 07-12-2007 01:34 PM

Akuma No Uta was my first taste of Boris and I wasn't very impressed. Rainbow is the superior album.

Kage 07-12-2007 02:12 PM

Rainbow is not representative of Boris at all. So if you're looking for an amazing album, Rainbow is good but if you're looking for an introduction to Boris, Rainbow would be a sore miscalculation.

Tyr 07-12-2007 02:15 PM

I only have Flood, which of course is fantastic. I tried Pink as well, but it was a little too noisy for me.

ATM 07-12-2007 04:56 PM

Pink is the one I got first and it was a good introduction to the band, I thought.

Kage 07-12-2007 04:57 PM

I was into Boris before Pink came out, that's how cool I am.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-12-2007 05:15 PM

Well then your opinion on the validity of Pink as an intro album is nil

antihippy 07-12-2007 10:12 PM

what about droneevil? recommended?

Kage 07-13-2007 12:07 AM

Yes, very heartily. One of my favorites, especially if you sync the two discs.

Poofy 666 07-13-2007 12:09 AM

I'm a bigger fan of the lighter Boris material.

And I don't like Kayo Dot :(

Kage 07-13-2007 12:10 AM

Lighter, like what?

Poofy 666 07-13-2007 12:19 AM

Flood, Rainbow, Akuma No Uta etc

Kage 07-13-2007 12:31 AM

Eh, I would hardly call Akuma No Uta, but those are great albums and actually you just listed my three favorites. :)

bwnstl 07-13-2007 01:01 AM

If you tell me Boris is nothing like their shitty-*** split with SunnO, then I'll check them out. But you better be right. Or I'll track you down. And do......bad things to you.

Kage 07-13-2007 01:07 AM

Wait, you mean their collab with Sunn, Altar? If so, most Boris is different and they have a lot of different sounds they tackle.

antihippy 07-13-2007 01:27 AM

sunn O))) is pretty boring.

Kage 07-13-2007 01:39 AM

Sunn is terrible, although I do like the Sunn/Boris collab because it feeds off of both bands' energies.

ATM 07-13-2007 07:58 AM

I hate how almost every band with a drone type sound is compared to them.
