take a look at the 22" A and AA Medium Rides. :thumb:

punkrockspectacle 10-19-2005 01:40 PM

Im lookin to get new hats for my kit. i've found two really good deals, around the same price. 14" AA Metal X vs. 14" AA Regular hats. both gently used. I play mostly metal/punk, but also rock and some hip-hop and jazz as well. which set do you guys think would be best for this scenario?

an_original_name 10-19-2005 02:20 PM

i'd go for the AA regular hats. if your playing a wide range of music they will work much better than the metal-x hats.

Maggot Dream 10-19-2005 03:31 PM
i would go for Zildjian As and Sabian AAs, rather than A Custom and Vaults. As and AAs have better rides IMO.

I Like the genres you play. Jazz, classic, and prog rock are my favorite genres! :thumb:
Are the AA's as high quality as the Vaults? I've only played on an AA ride, and I liked it, but I've heard good things about the Vaults too.

bobby__johnny 10-19-2005 04:37 PM

vault, AA,AAX,HHX, and Hand Hammered are all top quality, and equal in such ways. some are more expensive based on manufature methods. all are awesome.

Top qual my brothers!

:p

(My informative post for the month.)

Massik Kretal 10-19-2005 09:43 PM

Hihats. I want warm, articulate hats, that can cut well when fully closed.

New Beats!

Hahaha, no I'm actually serious too. I find mine to be pretty low, warm, and damn articulate and loud.

Double Bass Jim 10-19-2005 11:44 PM

14" K regular hats, perfect for anything. Middle line on tone not to dark.

14 HH regular hats would be good too.

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-20-2005 02:22 AM

K hats are a good sugestion. Maybe look at K mastersounds as well.

bobby__johnny 10-20-2005 12:33 PM

i'm with the K mastersounds....doesnt get much more articulate than those...

hundurinn 10-20-2005 12:42 PM

Not a option to go and try them out. 500km to the next store and they got crap.

I play mostly rock/metal.
I'm looking for a crash to add to my Paiste 2002 16" Classic Crash. I'm looking for something fairly or medium bright, shattering and powerful. I'm thinking to get either the 2002 18" Full crash, Power or Rock crash. Good option? What would you recommend. What would it compare to Zildjian or Sabian?

Also getting a new ride. 20"-24", something pingy, medium to long sustain, bright and a good bell. I like the 24" 2002 Original Ride, 22" Rock Bell Ride or 20" Rock Ride.

Open for all suggestions.

Should I look into another brands? Or does the Paiste outsound them all? :D

Iskandar 10-20-2005 02:47 PM

It all comes down to this, folks:

16" A Medium Crash, or 16" A Medium Thin?

Murd_666 10-20-2005 03:24 PM

^hmm I'd say Medium or w/e ever you think sounds the best^

I want cymbals(and a job, but thats not important) I was looking at:

Hi-Hat- Zildjian 13" A New Beats
Crashes- Zildjian 16" A Fast Crash
Zildjian 18" A Fast Crash
Ride- Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride
Splash- 10" A

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-21-2005 06:50 AM

^^^ thats a pretty good selection. Dunno baout the 18: fast crash though, never relaly liked fast crashes though.

to the dropper, I'd say go a medium thin.

The Chemist 10-21-2005 06:53 AM

i'm looking for a very dry, loud crash that has a short sustain
pitch: low-ish
size: 16-18''
make: sabian or zildjian

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-21-2005 07:01 AM

Dry and loud together is something of a hard find, most dry crashes dont exactly have much body.

I could reccoment K Custom Dry and Special Dry crashes but I dont think that they'd have the body you'd be after.

punkrockspectacle 10-21-2005 07:19 AM

Any of you guys have experience with the Paiste 2002 hi-hats? how versatile are they? I play a pretty wide range of music, and I am trying to find something that can accomidate the styles I play. Metal, Punk, Hip Hop, Jazz, etc.

metallas 10-21-2005 10:26 AM

Guys suggest please a china that sounds like s&m.The original one used (oriental china trash 18") is garbage stuff. My friend has it and I know.I want a china that sounds like ste sound in the cd.

bobby__johnny 10-21-2005 02:02 PM

poppinfresh 10-21-2005 05:35 PM
i'm with the K mastersounds....doesnt get much more articulate than those...
yes, i have 14 in med innovations bottom hat with a 14 in k custom fast crash on top, its fuckin crazuy.

withering_rose 10-21-2005 06:55 PM

ok, I'm looking for a dark sounding set up. I'm looking for new hats, a ride, and a crash. I want a sound similar to that of zildjian in the early 70s. I love the sound of my drum teachers cymbals, and all of them he bought in the 70s. thanks in advance guys

poppinfresh 10-21-2005 06:59 PM

oh what you want is the paiste giant beats, keith moon used them, ginger baker used them, and john bonham played for a year, they are big cymbals but have a warm sound, it is exactly what you want. The ride is incredible, you will fall in love with it, go try some out. They have just been reintroduced thouhg, they were replaced by the 2002 line way back when around the 70s/.

rockin, I'm on the paiste site but I can't find any soundclips (I know soundclips are generally rubbish but I don't have the best access to a music store at the moment) does anyone know where I can find some clips?
EDIT: I'm also really diggin the finish to them, I'm not fond of "reflective" finishes. I like the more mellow finish
2ND EDIT: also, I'm assuming the multi-function would be the crash?
LAST EDIT(I swear): instead of the giant beats multi-function, would the paiste dark energy crash mark I work for what I want?

bobby__johnny 10-21-2005 09:01 PM

basically, multi function is a crash ride. a big crash that can be ridden.

if you want a muli purpose Dark energy, look for one in the neighbourhood of 18" +

I'm not really looking for a multi purpouse. I'm not fond of crash/rides. I feel they usually don't have enough "attack" for my liking, so I was asking about the dark energy crash. also, about those sound clips...

yeah, I just found that, for some reason I couldn't before, thanks :)

Sponer 10-22-2005 06:34 PM

Ok, question.

My band wants me to get some louder crash cymbals.
I currently use an 18" Sabian B8, so I need to upgrade anyways.

But I was thinking about getting HHX crashes. How do HHXs and B8s compare in volume? Cause I'm thinking they're not going to be loud like what they want.

Or do I just not play loud enough, cause I wouldn't really concider myself a hard hitter.
