Uhh...the track Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is the second disc of the 6DOIT album split into tracks..only the band has the "one-42 minute song" version of it since Portnoy didn't want people to have to skip through say 20 mins of the 42 to get to a certain part
Hahaha thanks! Just learned something i did not know! |

Really? I can't seem to get into Awake as much as Six Degrees.. Or even Scenes.. |
what makes you guys like dream theatre
They have good and bad. For the most part, the good heavily outweighed the bad. The last couple of records have not been so. What makes me like them is when they do things right, its like nothing else in the world. A change of seasons is one of the most perfect songs I have ever heard. There is not a part I do not like the whole 23 minutes. I will always have respect for DT because of that song. |
I do not know if this conversation has been posted yet, but what do you guys think of Octavarium? I thought was similar to "Falling Into Infinnity" only heavier. Overall it was pretty good.
3.5/5 (however, I have only listend to half of the title track, everyone says it is the best) |
what makes you guys like dream theatre
Images and Words |
I don't consider 6DoIT 1 song. I think it's a pretty cheap way to say "hey look we wrote a song that is 42 minutes long." But each of the songs is good in its own way. 6DoIT is a great album though, my favorite being Disc 1 though. Some motherf.ucker stole it off of me though, along with my CD player which it was in.
They should let Myung explore. |
octavarium is pretty much 4 songs and a chorus slammed together in different time signatures and rhythms....dont get me wrong its good....but all theyve done is gone...written a few songs and sed...hey lets link them and make a really big song

Well, DT is quite unpredictable. They bring out an album and you don't know if its gonna bomb or be a success. But, over the eight albums they've done, they mainly released masterpieces, like Images and Words, Awake, SFAM, Train of Thought(Yeah, I actually like this one), and now, Octavarium. But that's not all that attracts me to DT. They have AMAZING, TALENTED members. Myung, The best(imo), Petrucci, the God of the guitar, Portnoy, Amazing drummer, Rudess, the best keyboardest. Fianally LaBrie, who, well, you kinda have to get used to him, but when you are, you would most probably love it. Dream Theater had its ups and downs, but overall, they remain a strong, solid prog-metal band.Classic. :thumb: |
james is actually a very good singer, regardless of whether or not people like his voice, as a lot of professionals have said before. awake shows off just how good he is, on songs like lifting shadows off a dream or voices.
as for why i like them, i just like their style and music. i like the complexity and virtuosity of them aswell though of course, one other thing about that is that you can listen to the songs much more without ever getting bored. i was listening to the dance of eternity a few weeks ago and heard a keyboard part near the end that i'd never even heard before which just keeps you interested longer. |
what makes you guys like dream theatre
Hmm, there are a few albums I like at this moment, which includes Octavarium and possibly 6DOIT. The second disc on 6DOIT is broken into 8 tracks, yes, and they are:
I. Overture II. About To Crash III. War Inside My Head IV. The Test That Stumped Them All V. Goodnight Kiss VI. Solitary Shell VII. About To Crash (Reprise) VIII. Losing Time/Grand Finale I think Goodnight Kiss is a great song. Has everyone checked out Portnoys radio files on his site? |
Does anyone find it weird when a DT fan is also a fan of Metallica? It's like a paradox (sorta), an intelligent DT fan listening to Metallica...?
I know this was said 890734987 years ago, but I thought you might like to know I'm a Dream Theater fan who is also a fan of Metallica. Both great, but obviously DT are way better musicians. :thumb: Ciao |
what makes you guys like dream theatre
:amaze: Nothing MAKES me like Dream Theater. I like Dream Theater because I think it is one of the few bands with technically talented musicians that still manage to churn out album after album of - let's face it - bloody amazin' music. Oh and by the way, the name is spelled with the "r" after the "e". Keep that in mind :p |

Ciao
Meh, I love Metallica, Dream Theater and Megadeth pretty equally, I don't think I prefer one band over the other. |

Great! I'm not alone! By the way, I don't prefer Dream Theater over Metallica. I just think DT have better technical ability. |
Yes, I love Dream Theater's ability, but Metallica is also very talented considering that they are a thrash band. However, I like Metallica better, but I enjoy how all of Dream Theater's musicians are excellent players

Yep, I agree with you: Metallica are very talented. I'd have to take the stance of Chu, though, and say I don't really like one more than the other. |
Oh yeah, and by the way, is anybody else here going to see "A Night With Dream Theater" at the Hammersmith Apollo in London? :naughty:

Nope..........sadly, I live in Scotland. If only DT would tour closer to home. Although, London ain't THAT much of a trip for such a great gig, eh? :) |
your a lucky man
.....and don't I know it lol :p |
This has probably been done many times, but what songs would you want to see on a best of cd for DT?
|

I have all their CD's, so I could burn my own. But let's change that to DVD. In no specific order: - Metropolis pt. 1 - Learning to Live - Lines in the Sand - Stream of Consciousness - The Glass Prison - The Root of All Evil - Panic Attack - Never Enough - Sacrificed Sons - Erotomania - The Dance of Eternity - Fatal Tragedy - Misunderstood - The Ytse Jam Can't remember anymore. Later. |
I would like to see more stuff from "Awake" and "Images.."
|
In my opinion every Dream Theater album is a "Best Of ..." at that point in their career. But some standouts on a Greatest Hits would have to be:
Metropolis Pt I Erotomania Lie Take the Time The Dance of Eternity Home Surrounded The Glass Prison Stream Of Conciousness ... thats about one CD worth of great music, wish I could throw Octavarium on there too but its just too long. Maybe a bonus disc of something hehehe. |
Oh man a DT Greatest Hits DVD???
I dont think I would have time to sit through every one of their songs... |
This has probably been done many times, but what songs would you want to see on a best of cd for DT?
Oooooh Christ, where the hell do you start?!?! Right...... The Ytse Jam Take The Time Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper A Mind Beside Itself Part 1: Erotomania Hollow Years Trial Of Tears Overture 1928 Beyond This Life The Dance Of Eternity The Glass Prison Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence III: War Inside My Head Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence IV: The Test That Stumped Them All Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence VI: Solitary Shell This Dying Soul The Root Of All Evil Panic Attack ....and that is REALLY cutting it down. As you can see, it would not be a simple one-disc matter. At least four would be necessary to do the band any justice  |
