I like the whole ABitW series. They basically sum up the entire first disc of the Wall.

Favorite Floyd songs: Intersteller Overdrive, Astronomy Domine, Dogs, One of These Days, SOYCD(6-9), When You're In, and many others...

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 09:47 PM

hehe. I was talking to some guy who claimed to like floyd and he said that Another Brick In The Wall pt II was the best floyd and and I said that it's not even close and that even pt III was better because at that point in the story, the lyrics were just better and more meaningful and then the guy's like "omg like wat story???". So he obviously didn't even know that The Wall was a concept album.

Discuss retards.

Joel_DK_Clash 01-29-2005 09:49 PM

^^haha, i wonder what he thought the "part II" stood for.

Good points about part III. The mood change there is really great, and the song really captures the emotion of that part of the album. What I don't understand is how he goes from the firery passion about separating himself(ABitW III) to the pleading for help(Hey You) so quickly. I think Is There Anybody Out There should be the first song on Disc 2.

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 09:51 PM

Well Pink is on quite a few drugs so who knows?

lunch998 01-29-2005 09:55 PM
Well Pink is on quite a few drugs so who knows?
Drugs are the excuse for everything.

Shazzam 01-29-2005 10:50 PM

Compared to other bands at the time, they didn't do that many drugs at all, obviously with the exception of poor old Syd.

lunch998 01-29-2005 11:54 PM
Compared to other bands at the time, they didn't do that many drugs at all, obviously with the exception of poor old Syd.
He was talking about the character Pink, who did an extreme amount of Drugs.

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 11:58 PM

I'm sure Waters did his share. And syd certainly did his. And Pink was part Rodger Waters and part Syd Barret...

Everybody's right on this one. :)

Yay.

DeusExMachina 01-29-2005 11:58 PM

Yeah. Pink was a druggie fool. And, Waters did quite a bit of drugs.

BludgeonySteve 01-30-2005 12:06 AM

I'm sure Gilmour and the rest of floyd did some drugs. Just not the heavy stuff.

magicbus 01-30-2005 12:32 AM

Gilmour and Wright occasionally puffed the reefer. Mason and Waters drank, and Waters did some other stuff too. But nothing too heavy.

Kingofdudes 01-30-2005 12:46 AM

Roger has said he has tried Acid once or twice and didnt like it. Gilmour has also tried Acid.

Riva 01-30-2005 01:39 AM

Waters did LSD, didn't he?

Shazzam 01-30-2005 08:42 AM
He was talking about the character Pink, who did an extreme amount of Drugs.
Oh, I misinterpreted that.

Yeah the character Pink was pretty messed up.

Shazzam 01-30-2005 08:45 AM
Waters did LSD, didn't he?
That might explain why Waters is such a douchebag to all the other band members.

DeusExMachina 01-30-2005 09:42 AM

Waters claims he only did LSD once or twice, but he also has been quoted as saying that he "Had all the same as Syd: Rock and roll, drugs, women, and alcohol. In that order." Or something to that effect.

Distant Echoes 01-30-2005 09:48 AM

They defintaly had worse stuff they did then pot and alcohol, but to an extent. They were like, ODing on that stuff to life-threatning limits like Zeppelin or Guns n roses. But im sure it influenced a lot of their music, so we have drugs to thank

DeusExMachina 01-30-2005 10:49 AM

Hahaha. But, a lot of it was just thanks to the fact that they're musical geniuses.

Joel_DK_Clash 01-30-2005 01:14 PM

I read that Rick Wright was kicked out because he had taken a "liking to cocaine".

BludgeonySteve 01-30-2005 01:19 PM

Did he really get kicked out? I thought he was in floyd until the end.

Raijo 01-30-2005 01:24 PM
Did he really get kicked out? I thought he was in floyd until the end.
No, he got booted out by Roger before they released The Wall and was kept with the band as a touring musician for The Wall tour then later Wright was hired as a studio musician to record A Momentary Lapse in Reason and then re-instated into the band when they recorded Division Bell.

Oh my..

Not true at all. Waters claims to have done acid once, and Dave says he doesn't even know if that happened. The other three probably tried it a couple times back in the underground in the 60's, but in Nick's book he says "..it wasn't really on the agenda after Syd left." Then he goes on to say that he and Roger rarely even smoked pot, that they only usually drank at parties. Dave and Rick did, but I'm sure even they weren't big stoners. One of the biggest misconceptions of Pink Floyd is an acid wasted group of hippies. By the time Dark Side of The Moon came out, they were all married with childeren too.

/clears that up

guitarded_chuck 01-30-2005 02:20 PM
Compared to other bands at the time, they didn't do that many drugs at all, obviously with the exception of poor old Syd.
That's also true. So many bands were into cocaine, almost all smoked pot and drank, many tripped sometimes, and then ecstacy was really popular in the 80's. One that comes to my mind is Aerosmith. Although they've been clean for a long time, they were always drunk, stoned or tripping. Or like Black Sabbath. Just look at Ozzy these days. They were coke addicts for many years.

Distant Echoes 01-30-2005 02:24 PM

Well like i said, they didnt really do pot, but worse things to an extent...meaning not much of that either. when syd was around, Im very aware of what went on then, and it was no good, but after that, it still was going on, but not as harsh.

And it was a semi-sarcastic comment that drugs are all to thank for floyds genious

/clears myself up

rep+ for making it more clear and easier to understand

Otherside 01-30-2005 02:39 PM

I thought it was pretty funny on the Live in Pompeii dvd when Gilmour goes:

"People seem to think our music is heavily influenced by drugs."

-He pauses for a second and looks away-

"It's not really"

6Stringer 01-30-2005 02:53 PM

I haven't seen Live in Pompeii yet, but I hear good things about it.

Stealthy Fart 01-30-2005 03:43 PM

Yeah, I might pick that DVD up.

P.S Someone go vote for Hendrix in one of the polls, it's a three way tie.
