Guys this will probably be one of my last posts for the next couple weeks, as I'm off to Italy. Hopefully I'll get laid on the beach. Hopefully the chicks shave, too. I'm going to try and start a Zeppelin sing along on the plane, so I'll see how that goes.
I leave tomorrow and still haven't packed  See ya in a couple! |
What song? Make it the immigrant song. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 have fun |
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6. so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
Well, well. Someone has finally noticed it... Well, actually I have seen a swarm of classic rock lovers. But one must also consider that when you are into a particular thing, it seems to be prevalent around you. For example, when I got into my star wars phase, it seemed like everyone was into star wars. But yes, classic rock is coming back (finally). Being 15 years old, I actually see a lot of classic rock t-shirts. My favourite bands are pink floyd and led zeppelin. I see lots of led zeppelin shirts, but not enough pink floyd shirts. Give one of the greatest rock bands some credit. Actually, I think that most people misread pink floyd's music. It is not music to get high to. Their music tells a story. Listen to it, maybe you'll understand. Anyway, one may ask: "what's wrong with today's music?" Well, I'll tell you. Lack of creativity. One group ttries to mimic what other crap groups do. Rap songs: all you do is come up with some words that rhyme and put them to synthesized music. Alternative rock: all the bands sound the same. They play nothing but chords and simple riffs. No good solos. What happened to the solos? Bands have nothing to define themselves these days. Led zeppelin had robert plant's unique voice, jimmy page's rough riffs, john bonham's crazy drum solos, and john paul jones's basslines. Pink floyd had their own complete sound. These days everyone's voices even sound the same. people show up on tv too often, too. they have no time to write good quality songs. The message conveyed is important, too. today's groups sing about "i don't give a f***." Classic rockers sing about love, about life. Another thing that makes classic groups like led zeppelin great is their cultural diversity. The song white summer by led zeppelin is (i think) old indian style. Whatever musical elements classic groups could find, they found a way to use. That lacks these days. You can tell if a group spent their time trying to get a song perfect. Listen to led zeppelin's achilles last stand and you will see what i mean. these days, groups rush their recording, not attempting perfection. In essence, classic rock is more creative than modern rock. Listen to it and you will see. |

Many good points, except that Jimmy Page originally did White Summer with the Yardbirds, IIRC :thumb: |
Is anybody from around West Virginia?

The music is being played on the modern rock radio stations is godawful. Thats the main reason why I turned to classic rock to save my ears from such terrible noise. I have noticed a great increase in the popularity of classic rock, myself included in this trend.

cloud strife3k, great post. I have noticed this lack of creativity you talk about as well.

See the Light and Feel This is where it's at!!!! It's amazing that he's blind. Most of his guitar work is out of this world. I still gotta pick up Hell To Pay. Great band!!!

This IS my last post before Italy. I leave in 12 hours. I thought this was interesting:

 when I typed that I was listening to hell to pay  Amazing album/ |
Ive noticed more ppl listning to classic rock, like zeppelin and ac/dc
|
At thirteen my dad introduced me to Jimi Hendrix's music since then I have been a classic rock junkie. I've noticed a bit of revival among teenagers lately and I've been encouraging them. As far as bands bringing the sound back I'm a big fan of Jet. Their stuff reminds me of old Iggy Pop and AC/DC stuff. I hope more show up to help return Rock to the time before punk.

Another great example of classic rock groups blending varied musical styles is Iron Butterfly's "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida" It's a crazy psychedelic love song consits mostly of instrumental. But a major part of Iron Butterfly's sound is a church organ. Check it out for seventeen minutes of great psychedelic rock. |

^Well, the organ is what Psychedelia is led by.
|
sometimes the synth too. The doors had a good organ, synth, keyboards player. What was his name again?
|
Ray Manzarek. He rarely used a synth though, atleat compared to the organ. More organ, watch some of the videos.
But if a keyboard is making an organ sound then yes. |
Yeah. The doors are so tripfying, I think i'll listen to them :). Lihgt my fire has some dang good organ parts :)
|
I love The Doors for the organ-ness. Listening to them makes me wish I knew how to play piano and all that.
On another note, The Very Best of Cream is a good cd! Yay Cream! |
Well obviously.
|
Heh, but I just bought it like an hour ago and am listening to it now. That's why!
|
led zeppelin is my favorite band, but the beatles were probably the most revolutionary band out there. and of course there were other great bands and musicians like :
cream eric clapton the rolling stones the who van halen peter frampton and many others that i forgot |
