Well I know from my experience the first Sanitarium solo is easy, but getting it all down in the correct timing was a bit difficult for me.

Also, the solos in Dimmu Borgir's 'Burn in Hell' are very easy (Hell the whole song is very easy).

YouGottaBeCrazy 09-07-2005 05:58 PM

Yeah, the first 2 solos in "Welcome Home" aren't too hard. The last one isn't either. I can understand someone having a bit of trouble with the third (faster) one.

brooksy1986 09-07-2005 07:36 PM

Is it me or listening to St Anger after dissing it so much (no offence) you find if u put it on, say when doing homework or somethin, you find yourself tapping your foot, maybe a little headbanging. OK its a pretty poor album by Metallica standards but lets face it those standards are pretty **** high up. Still its better than anything by Stinkin Park or Limp Shiznik. IMO

What im tryin 2 say is that even tho the album is pretty bad when you listen to it as "background" music, you appreciate it a helluvva lot more

clairvoyant 09-07-2005 08:10 PM

I still hate it.

I don't think its bad at all, it's just that people don't like it because they compare it to other Metallica albums. If that was a new band that came out with that CD people would most likely like it a lot more.

I doubt anything will make me appreciate St. Wanker. I still turn it on every now and then. St. Angel the song is pretty decent though.

Exactly how I feel. I think it's pretty good but has it's flaws and people just like to follow trends.

Keep those to a minimum.

It would be all right if the songs were shortened and arranged better and James took his guitar outta his *** before singing. Just my opinion.

okay, ill keep those to a minimum sliptallica :naughty:

You're really clever. :thumb:

Quickdrop 09-07-2005 08:45 PM

The only 3 songs i saw as being "good" on St. Anger was St. Anger, Frantic, and My World. To todays standards St. Anger is an awesome CD. But comparing it to Ride the Lightning, Black Album, etc it is trash. I do think its better than reload though ^.^

people would like it more, they got a grammy for it.and i like music like what they played, its just the vocals suck, the drums suck, imo, and they seem like sellouts now.

Quickdrop 09-07-2005 08:55 PM

I think many of the riffs and chorus' on St. ANger are great, much of it sounds like the old metallica, especially Lars on drums. I think it would have worked out better if he would have tuned his drums the same way he has for 20+ years Now. He tried something new, and many fans didnt like the new sound (me being one of them.) The snare was just annoying. Take the song St. Anger for example with the fast snare groove. with the snare and base re-tuned, it'd sound like a newer "Battery" for say.

Darkness 09-07-2005 08:58 PM

They need to stop with the drop tunings and just get 7 strings.

Agreed.
Some of the riffs are the closest thing to thrash they've done in almost 20 years (Ok, so maybe it's more like 17 :p), people said they wanted a return to old, well St. Anger was a return to old, but with a modern sound.

Edit:
They need to stop with the drop tunings and just get 7 strings.
lol actually, that's a sweet idea.

Huber 09-07-2005 09:13 PM

I think the 7 strings idea rocks. I'm no guitar specialist though.

I recorded FWTBT, but I just can't like it. I'm hoping it sounds bad because the drum part just sucks and it's not me. I tried to add stuff but most of it failed. I'm going to start uploading it now, but it might not finish in time and I'll post it in the morning.

Darkness 09-07-2005 09:16 PM

It is. Nevermore and Dream Theater use em and I think it would add a nice crunch to their sound. Not a stupid low tuned loose sound.

Chu 09-07-2005 09:16 PM

My brother's made up some fills for FWTBT that work pretty well, if you want I could get him to tab it and you can try his version?

*Could take some time, but it's an option if you really think the song is boring..

Britton 09-07-2005 09:35 PM

I love that song!

I really enjoy St. Anger just my opinion but I do, my favourite song is SKOM

how long has your bro been drumming?

Chu 09-07-2005 09:52 PM

A very short time.
He's been dreaming about getting a kit for ages, so we went to the local music store (I had to get stuff for my guitar, new strings, tuner etc.) and I gave him 1.2 grand to buy a drum kit (Remember I'm Aussie), that was maybe 4 months ago.
He picked it up surprisingly fast, but I don't know alot about drumming so...

For Whom The Bell Tolls being his favourite 'Tallica song, he asked to do that first, he's pretty good at it, to the point where he can add in his own fills and still make it sound good (Of course, my guitar is what really makes it pro  ).

Edit: Still doesn't have doubles though, he wants some for Christmas.

Scooch 09-07-2005 09:55 PM

I think St. Anger is one of the better metal cds to come out in the 00's. I like almost every song on the cd.

burtonbassist_102 09-07-2005 10:17 PM

hey...do any of you know why jason played a fretless bass on the studio version of until it sleeps but doesn't play one live? at least i've never seen him play one....

Huber 09-07-2005 10:22 PM
hey...do any of you know why jason played a fretless bass on the studio version of until it sleeps but doesn't play one live? at least i've never seen him play one....
I'd guess because it will sound better with a fretless but will be harder to play, but that isn't a problem in the studio like it is live.

fatbandit 09-08-2005 02:44 AM

I could go and look at the S&M DVD to see if he is using a fretless playing it, but see, it can be hard to tell. I've seen him in the NEM video playing an unlined fretless, but live he could be playing a lined fretless, which without careful examination, could look just like a fretted bass.

So he could theoretically have been using one everytime they played it live too.

:smash:
hey...do any of you know why jason played a fretless bass on the studio version of until it sleeps but doesn't play one live? at least i've never seen him play one....
No idea, he probably finds it much easier to play fretted bass live so there's little chance of him messing up.

fade 2 blackened 09-08-2005 08:24 AM

I've seen alive performance of Frantic at the Rock Am Ring (on Imesh) where it looks like Rob is using a lined fretless bass. I don't kno w if he uses it all the time, though. As for Jason, I've never seen him use a fretless, but I think happy nailed the reason on the head.

fade 2 blackened 09-08-2005 08:28 AM

Btw, what does a fretless bass do for the sound?

exup 09-08-2005 08:56 AM

sounds less fretfull

Britton 09-08-2005 09:54 AM

yea.

my brother wanted to be a drummer, he would never shut up about it until
I lent him half the money to buy the kit, then he never used it so I put it in my room
and I play every day. he also got a bass and it's been in my room for a month, he gets really pissed off when I play pulling teeth

yea and my ****ty little practice amp blew so I couldn't be heard when we
played together cause mom bought him a 30 amp..so he plays over me....
not much longer thought till my 50 wat tube gets here :)

squid 09-08-2005 10:16 AM

Yeah, I have a fretted and a fretless bass (both Ibanez)
I'm sure you all know how fretted sounds, but the fretless
has a very warm, rich tone without the metal clanking of string on fret.

exup 09-08-2005 10:47 AM

sounds like a noisy bunch of guys you are.. i got an elec guitar with an ****ty little amp and i really can't play it and don't ejoy is anymore too.
I always wanted to drum, but my parents didn't let me cause its way to noisy

FarFromElysium 09-08-2005 11:10 AM

are metallica in the studio currently?

Britton 09-08-2005 11:23 AM

no they are not.

my perents enjoy my playing so it hasn't been a problem. my next door neighbor
hates me to death. but anyway I can't wait to get my amp. should be here today
I'll need to use my effects though cause it is not a metal amp

fade 2 blackened 09-08-2005 11:44 AM

thanks squid

My parents like my playing but I live in appartments and I'm surrounded by neighbors. So my amp volume rarely goes above 2. Shame I cant use the 40 watts to their full potential, even with a Digitech RP50 efeects pedal. :upset:

Britton 09-08-2005 11:56 AM

yea, I usualy just play with head phones (when I'm learning something new)
then I use the amps to showcase it. I understand the apartment thing

fade 2 blackened 09-08-2005 11:58 AM

I play unplugged when I'm learning something. Don't know why, I just do.

Doctor Night 09-08-2005 12:07 PM
I play unplugged when I'm learning something. Don't know why, I just do.
I always play unplugged, It just seems easier to do, when I have shows to do, then obviously, but when I practice...
