I got my first ever paycheck today. I bought a box of Popeye's.
That sounds like a good investment.

YDload 06-30-2006 07:28 PM

Popeye's is good stuff. Not just the spicy chicken, but the butter-soaked biscuits and mashed potatoes+gravy.

They built one in my town but it's about 99% white so nobody was in the mood for some good Cajun cuisine. Bastards.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=55806

Everyone check out my lists for Sputnik, they are neato and have firmly replaced the old "Top 5" thread as far as I'm concerned.
Pssst. Your Patton one is the other way around. Mr. Bungle was his high-school band. He went from them to Mr. Bungle.

YDload 06-30-2006 07:40 PM

I mentioned that in the description but it didn't show up. Point is, being in FNM is what he was most famous for, so I used that as a starting point. Being there is what allowed Mr. Bungle to make some albums that people could actually buy in stores.

PinkFreud 06-30-2006 08:22 PM

Fair enough.

I still like my RYM lists. Even if they are the typical "Top 10/15 Vocalists/Drummers/Guitarists/Bassists" lists.

Interstate 07-01-2006 05:46 AM

Can't wait for the England match today. We're gonna get so killed.

ATM 07-01-2006 08:05 AM

It's going to be a pretty even match, IMO.

i got my first paycheck from my new job. i bought a case of beer

/high-fives

ATM 07-01-2006 03:59 PM

Beer and chicken go well together.

Zappa 07-01-2006 04:38 PM

I tried to do a yearly favorites list on RYM, but when I got to 1977 I just had to give up. I had a lot of toughies in there, but '77 gives you Young, Loud and Snotty, Zappa in New York, Low, Marquee Moon, Rattus Norvegicus, The Clash, My Aim is True, Aja, Talking Heads: 77, Heroes, Rocket to Russia, Pink Flag, Before and After Science, Blank Generation, and 999. Choosing one is absolutely impossible.

YDload 07-01-2006 04:48 PM

sort of like 86 or 94 I guess.

ATM 07-01-2006 05:26 PM

So I keep hearing about Magazine. What do they sound like?

Wanker 07-01-2006 05:42 PM

Some of the guys at work talk about this band called Portugal, The Man, or whatever. Are they any good? What other bands do they sound like?

el doctor 07-01-2006 08:33 PM

$500 at Best Buy today.

I bought myself a DVD burner, a 400GB external hard drive, and season one of Futurama. I realized afterwards that it looked like I bought all of this stuff just to pirate the Furutama episodes.
So I keep hearing about Magazine. What do they sound like?
Real Life is kind of like the quintessential post-punk album. It has the "angular" riffs, the thudding bass and dancing drums, nervey vocals with abstract lyrics. Magazine also took fine advantage of the analog synthesizer, and had a keyboardist to be reckoned with. Their lead singer is ex-Buzzcocks, but Magazine is miles away from the classic pop-punk sound of that band.

YDload 07-01-2006 10:25 PM

Post-punk with an analog synth = the best thing Zappa's ever heard of, I guess. Looks like you've found a winner :)

Zappa 07-01-2006 11:09 PM

The funny thing is I've been a Magazine fan for at least a year now (WRM reviewed Real Life on the CD Reviews forum, and I got it then!). It's just that I realized I was missing their second album, downloaded it, and rekindled the love.

Excursions 07-01-2006 11:31 PM

Zappa, have you heard the debut Witch album with J Mascis on drums. If so what did you think of it? I seem to recall you liking Dinosaur Jr.

Zappa 07-01-2006 11:53 PM

I haven't heard it, but I do likes me some Dinosaur Jr. But then, tons of people on here do.

ATM 07-02-2006 12:41 AM

I love Dinosaur Jr - Dinosaur. Such a sweet album.

Cygnus Inter Anates 07-02-2006 07:42 AM

Soulseek hasn't worked for me in weeks.

JonM 07-02-2006 08:34 AM

I & I is back.

Kyle 07-02-2006 08:40 AM

Yo, welcome back Jon :)

JonM 07-02-2006 08:41 AM

It's good to be back (but the trip was amazing). I tried to log on one day from France and saw that Chad had fucked things up again and the board was closed. What'd he do this time?

Cygnus Inter Anates 07-02-2006 08:45 AM

Ejaculated all over his keyboard.

Kyle 07-02-2006 08:45 AM

He was just messing up the Pit again, and actually managed to hack Jeremy's account! Jeremy got pretty mad, and has threatened to close the pit. You'll notice the name has been changed to General Discussion, and it has moved down on the list of forums. What you get up to in France?

Edit: Cygnus, are you Dei are what?

Happymeal 07-02-2006 08:45 AM

Whoa welcome back.

Is anyone into this stuff? I had not known anything about this "circuit bending" business until my friend showed these to me.

JonM 07-02-2006 08:50 AM
What you get up to in France?
Well, I was in Paris for a week and then Madrid for a week, with a brief stop in between in Como, Italy to meet up with my brother and father who were in Germany for the football while I was in France. I basically went to two art museums a day and ate really good food. It was fantastic. I also managed to read Catch A Fire, the definitive Bob Marley biography, and listened to a LOT of my new music I hadn't thoroughly checked out yet.

Haha never heard of that. But ya, I love geeks.

Edit: Sounds good to me Jon, I still don't have a holiday organised this summer :upset:.

Cygnus Inter Anates 07-02-2006 08:51 AM

What does France smell like?

JonM 07-02-2006 08:52 AM

It smells really good.

Kyle 07-02-2006 08:54 AM

The smell of fresh bread comes to mind when I think of France, it's wonderful.

Cygnus Inter Anates 07-02-2006 08:56 AM

I'm gonna go watch Chocolat now.

ATM 07-02-2006 10:41 AM

JonM is back!

Sup?

Robert Crumb 07-02-2006 12:59 PM
