They have a "Dave Matthew's Band" Magic Brownies that is different from the normal magic brownies. I think they have one with Phish in the name too.
Of course. I am upset that DMB got a Ben and Jerrys named after before ABB. Maybe that's because ithey are more Southern Rock than Jam Band

Illmatic 08-08-2005 08:40 PM

Yeah, but Dave Matthews sucks.

classicrockman 08-08-2005 08:41 PM
Phish Food, I think.

Subject of interest to me: Orioles/Rangers slugger Rafael Palmeiro testing positive for steroids.

Joe Morgan said that if Pete Rose cheated and is banned from the Hall of Fame, than Palmeiro, who also cheated, should be banned too.

Frankly, I agree.
I don't think Palmeiro should get into the Hall Of Fame.

He's retiring after this season, right?

I am inclined to strongly agree, but I can't say i ave heard enough material to make a judgement of that sort. I just hate the girls I know that like DMB

Man, I don't get the whole Pete Rose deal. I mean, wtf, it's about ability right? If they're banning him for cheating, then why not allow any number of random ethical baseball players in the hall of fame for staying legit for their entire career? To me, it's just some idiot ploy to feighn some sort of form of righteousness on the part of the MLB, when really, if they really wanted to be tr00 or whatever, why not cut the players' salaries and put it somewhere where it actually mattered something. If they put all of that money elsewhere(Eg education, arts, better standars for lower class workers) I doubt the country would be that much effected by the loss of entertainment. I personally the the good would outwiegh the bad, but meh, I do see weaknesses in this, but I stil think it's a better plan than squandering it on some jock so they can retire at 35 and live a lavish life with nothing to worry about.

Jom 08-08-2005 09:30 PM

I'm confused about this post. First, it's Pete Rose. Then it's salaries. Then it's entertainment?

Well, yes, but if you use performance enhancers, ability gets boosted by a substantial amount. There's more to baseball than having good hand-eye coordination. You could have all of it in the world, but if you can't get the ball out of the infield, what good are you?

For the record, I think Pete Rose should be out of the Hall.

Because the "completely legit" players didn't put up the numbers Rose did.

Uh... what? I don't think you're suggesting to get rid of America's pasttime, but what the hell did you say there? I think the "adjective" tr00 threw me for a loop, heh.

Hey, if I could get paid millions of dollars to catch in the Major Leagues and drive in runs and all that other stuff, I would take the millions of dollars, and mock people who are jealous because they can't do the things that I do and have to sit on their ass all day in the office and dream about their glory days. :)

Kurtz 08-08-2005 09:32 PM
I saw God...

It's real hard to explain...it's like, everything was real bright and drippy and swirling and stuff. At one point I looked up and I saw Him. He wasn't exactly the big guy with the beard that we would all expect, He was more like an every day person, a man with a worn face from everything He has seen. And He told me, simply, "Everything is going to be all right".

Very interesting indeed.
So God looked like John Cazale?

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-08-2005 09:37 PM

I like the color coordination. :-D

Well, by true, I meant legit, but I didn't want to sound repetitive. I saw that coming, my fault.

And yes, I did suggest that, but I think that's probably going too far, but what I was getting at is that these players that are making millions for doing something that deserves a fraction of that. Yeah, I realize that they are talented, but still, compared to some people that work their asses off day after day and can only pull 40k a year, it just seems ridiculous.

Capitalism has it's downfalls, and it seems many athletes have reaped the rewards from them.

Jom 08-08-2005 09:46 PM

It's all good, I won't bwomp on you for your blowing your tags :p

Anyways, yes, I can understand that meaningful jobs such as teachers get a whole lot of hassle for very little money. They also have a lot of responsibility.

But still, athletes get paid the big bucks for what they do. Some of them are incredibly selfish, yes, and maybe their ego is fried. I can understand peoples' frustrations there.

No one wants to fail, but no one wants to work.

I saw Murderball the other day. Strong movie. There was an article in ESPN the Magazine that talked about it and how TO and Manny should watch it. That might be taking it a bit far, but then again, Dan Le Batard had a good point in the article as well.

Anyways, you can try to find a way to make capitalism better, but I don't think it's going to change any time soon. And no, anarchy would fail, heh. I'm not saying you would, but I remember a thread in The Pit in 2003 (I think) that was all like ANARCHY RULES MAN LET'S ANARCHY YEAH! and it was a huge flamefest.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-08-2005 09:55 PM

So you really did have an account before the one you're on now? Or did you just stumble across the thread?

I'm not trying to improve the way things are run or anything, but all it's hard not to, because it's really the only thing about life that is worthy of complaint, especially when you think of the numerous others that are in such a worse position than us. Look at all of us, sitting in front of a box filled with amazing technology, connecting us to an entire world that would have been unknown to us without the money made available through an endless chain of brilliant minds. You can't expect everything to go perfectly, so I guess all you can do is be happy with everything we've got. :p

NJMetalMeister 08-08-2005 10:19 PM
I don't agree with his assertion, because people don't always necessarily drink to get drunk (myself, for example), but I guess the point is that people who smoke weed are generally harmless when they're high, while people who get drunk are often loud, obnoxious, dangerous people. How many weed-induced car accidents are there? How much weed-induced violence is there?

The point is blown because, as I have said, you don't ncessarily drink to get drunk.
that is essentially it. Sure you dont have to drink to get drunk, but is it the light drinkers who go home and beat their wives? that go out and cause car accidents? absolutely not. Does the fact taht the BAL can only be 0.08% stop people from exceeding that and driving? also a big no.

Not to attack anyone, because i also drink, usually not to get drunk, but if there were an option to trade legality id go pot legal alcohol illegal no question.
Actually, it wouldn't make sense to me if they legalized weed (in Canada anyway). The Goverenment is working hard to slowly eliminate smoking, and ban it all together. Weed is far worse for your lungs, and just worse for you in general than cigarettes are. There have been talks of legalizing it, so really I think it's ridiculous, because that will just make the smoking problem even worse. This is probably the reason why it is kept illegal (here anyway).
A few years back weed was actually decriminalised in certain parts of canada, but that did not last long because it got totally out of control really fast, if they would have let it go for a bit more before making it illegal again, it probably would have been okay, just like how out of control alcohol usage became in the states after prohibition was lifted, but after a short while it did calm down a lot. That is just human nature though.
/\/\ probably right... I smoke weed occasionally, but not cigarettes...does that make me a hypocrite?
I'm going to bed, too late for this kind of serious discussion...
Not at all, because weed isnt addictive (although being high can be mentally addictive, but that is a different issue), and while a joint may have more tar and what not in it than a cigarette, for every one joint you would share (note the word share, not smoke solo), is not nearly as often as a person would smoke cigs. You are no more a hypocrite than a person who drinks and doesnt smoke cigs in my opinion, because there are different reasons for doing said activity.
I don't get it.

I just think people should eat, drink, smoke, watch, read, inject, snort, whatever they want as long as they don't harm another human being.
I also agree, i think EVERYTHING should be either legal or illegal, i dont get it when they are like "hey tobacco and alcohol are okay, but weed and shrooms arent", if you want to say drugs are bad, then say ALL drugs are bad, not just non industry ones.

And on the topic of ice cream, the best stoner food ever is Ben & Jerry's Phish Phude, although i hate the band phish, the ice cream is amazing, especially while high.
I actually don't think I do, so I please, tell me.
Do I need to tell you? You ever see a sports game on TV? You ever seen a sports game in person? People are nuts about this stuff. People live for this stuff.

BTW, re-reading your post, you're a little too optimistic here. You're forgetting that the guys who own these baseball teams and pay these players are billionaires and multi-millionaires. They're not going to help poor people anyway.

Steerpike 08-08-2005 11:09 PM

My financial situation is looking rather grim and I need a way to make some quick cash.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-08-2005 11:24 PM

I used to be an extreme football fan. I mean, it would ruin my week if I didn't get home to watch Monday Night Football, and I got to stay up late on Mondays to watch the games. I've been there, and it really used to be a staple of my life, but I've done without it for years, but I can see how if someone threatened to take away music from me, I would feel the same way you do about sports. People living for it though? Don't you think that's a bit over the top? :p

Even then, I've seen people have just as much fun watching a pick-up game at my park, and at our high school sporting events. I'm sure people feel much more of a personal connection to these types of things, whether it be a neighbor's son playing in a basketball game, or just going to watch to hang out with some friends.

Also, in my post after Jom's, I did change my stance a bit, so read that for clarification, I guess.

Alex- Do a family tree search. You're bound to have some relatives tied to the mafia. Join the family and earn some extra cash. :p

No matter how ironic and how much that contradicts itself.

The whole reason I'm bringing this up is how I mentioned the other day that my ideal editing suite will cost me around $1300-$1400. My bank account right now: somewhere in the neighborhood of $120.

Be a plasma donor. There's this company by my uni that does it... so they get all the college kids, heh. You just have a physical exam, I think, to make sure that you have healthy blood and no communicable diseases.

Hang on, let me find the site and double-check.

EDIT: http://www.biolifeplasma.com/

Look around the site and see for yourself.

For some reason, I think your first couple visits are $20, but then they pay you a little more for each time you come back... maybe $40? I don't know, I can ask in the uni's community blog, and people will find out for me if you're interested.

It really isn't much of a stretch to say that there are people out there who live for it.

Can I explain why? Heck no. I can't even explain why I like sports so much. It's just a feeling that I get. There are times where it seems like things in sports transcend sports and are bigger than sports, which is always a plus.

I just don't know. It would be cliche just to say that sports reveals character, that it becomes good vs. evil, moral vs. immoral; how a matchup between two rivals becomes more than just team vs. team, it becomes city vs. city/college vs. college, a way of life vs. another way of life.

God...it just sounds dumb when I try to explain it.
