ATM 06-25-2006 08:43 AM

You ready for the game, dei?

dei 06-25-2006 08:45 AM

No. :o

If Netherlands don't win today, I will be crushed.

ATM 06-25-2006 08:47 AM

I wonder if Equador are going to put up a fight.

Netherlands will win, most likely :)

dei 06-25-2006 08:48 AM

No one I know thinks England is going to beat out Ecuador. I don't care about this game, but I think England can pull it off.

ATM 06-25-2006 08:50 AM

Wierd, the announcer just said Beckham might come to the MLS. I heard Ronaldo was thinking about it, too.

dei 06-25-2006 09:01 AM

I heard Ronaldo turned it down because they weren't offering enough money.

It would be nice to bring better players to the MLS because these teams are really bad. It's nowhere close to being a great league. But it's also a waste at the same time because there aren't a lot of football fans here in the United States. It's all about sports that no one else in the world cares about (basketball, baseball, and American football). Well, no one important.

Maybe this will change things.

ATM 06-25-2006 09:06 AM

Yea, I feel the same way.

It's so hard for americans to compete in the world cup because the level of competetion in the MLS is so low.

Bukowski 06-25-2006 11:45 AM

Well, America is certainly a better team now than they were 10 years ago. If football keeps progressing and gets more and more popular over there, then in another 10 years America should have a very good team.

They certainly have potential, and so does China, Japan, Korea, Australia and also countries from Africa. If these countries keep progressing and getting more and more into football, then future world cups should be amazing.

By contrast, football in Scotland is heading the opposite direction...there are less and less good players coming through, there's nowhere for us to play because all the parks are wet and full of glass, and over half the teams in our top 4 divisions are on the verge of bankruptancy. I play for an under-18 team, and the league we were in just got cancelled due to lack of interest. It sucks.

Kyle 06-25-2006 11:56 AM

Yeah, it's a shame. I used to look forward to the old England Vs. Scotland tustles, but it would be a formality now. In saying that England were apalling today.

pulseczar 06-25-2006 12:07 PM

I really thought Costa Rica were gonna make it this time :(

Zappa 06-25-2006 12:09 PM

If you made that avatar, pulse, you're amazing.

ATM 06-25-2006 01:58 PM

Woah that is a nice avatar.

pulseczar 06-25-2006 02:07 PM

Now if I could get two lesbians making out with him, it'd really be perfect.

ATM 06-25-2006 02:09 PM

We need to collaborate.

My first show in Canada was a success.

The first band who came up was Raising the Fawn, who I wasn't too fond of. Their vocalist sounded so generic and their music is sort of a shoegaze-inspired U2-ish rock but with very little passion. My friends didn't like them either so we passed the time by playing cards in the grass.

After their set we managed to get closer to the stage, to see J Mascis play with members of Broken Social Scene (there were 2 drummers playing at the same time during the whole set). They played a couple of songs from Bug and You're Living All Over Me as well as some others that I'm not familiar with. Two members of Do Make Say Think joined the group in one song, as well as Feist singing with J and BSS's vocalist. It kind of sucked that only a couple of kids in the crowd were into it, but that set still blew me away.

Next up was Feist, who was down with the flu, or so she says. When she performed her first song all the females in the crowd rushed up to her in front of the stage, which I thought was pretty funny. I haven't really listened to a lot of her songs so I was only able to recognize "Gatekeeper" (some guy passed out, fell on my friend, and seizured during this song, possibly from too much weed) and the increasingly popular "Mushaboom" but overall hers was a pretty solid set.

Bloc Party went up next, the crowd went wild. They played most of their album (I'm guessing) and a new song. Surprisingly they put up a solid performance, especially on "Like Eating Glass", even though I wasn't really a big fan of theirs. My friends wanted to leave at this point but I convinced them to stay for half the set (thankfully) of the next band..

..Which was Broken Social Scene. The 40 minutes it took them setting up felt like a month, but it was worth it. The band started off with a post-rocky build up (some band members coming in and out of the stage) to make way for "7/4 (Shoreline)". It was a pretty sketchy start due to some technical issues but the crowd went absolutely wild at the part with the horns. They followed that up with "Cause = Time" and a couple more from You Forgot it in People and the s/t. I wanted to stay until the end but some of my friends had to leave early, so we inched our way out of the crowd before I could see "Hotel", "Swimmers" or Emily Haines.. but all in all it was a wonderful show. Ok I will stop now

Robert Crumb 06-25-2006 03:34 PM

Pretty awesome Happy, sounds like a good time. BSS played a fantastic show when I saw them and they're playing about an hour away this summer with Bloc Party and Mew. I kinda want to go but I'm gonna be pretty strapped financially.

Zmev 06-25-2006 03:54 PM

And with Two Gallants.

I'm not going to that show though.

Kyle 06-25-2006 04:24 PM

I'm gonna see BSS at Reading.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 06-25-2006 04:42 PM

I want to see BSS but they're yet another band that has skipped this ****ty city

Luxor 06-25-2006 11:10 PM

You should have went to that concert last year as well, Happymeal

Metric, BSS, Modest Mouse, Do Make Say Think

Little Man being Erased 06-26-2006 12:01 AM

Watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels last night, for the first time in quite a while. How fucking fantastic is it?

I think I liked that pretty well when I saw it. I watched most of Pulp Fiction today. Just up to the part where they shoot Marvin in the face.

Why did you stop?

I watched the concluding episode in Six Feet Under's fifth season. It was heartbreaking and beautiful. The show is simply an incredibly poignant and well executed drama. If any of you enjoyed American Beauty, check this series out (both were written by Alan Ball).

Now that I've finished SFU, I'm going to move onto another television series. Deadwood. We'll see how it goes.

Zappa 06-26-2006 12:50 AM

Because my favorite part is Butch's vignette, and it was over. And I have a short attention span.

br3ad_man 06-26-2006 01:41 AM

I watched Almost Famous today. The last time I watched it was when I was two years ago and it was a lot better this time.

I haven't seen Lock, Stock for years, I think I'll rent it out tonight.

Little Man being Erased 06-26-2006 01:52 AM

I think if anyone actually dislikes Lock, Stock... they should be rounded up and packed into a rocket and blasted off into the sun. It has to be one of the most likeable films ever.

Zmev 06-26-2006 04:36 AM

I went to an *cough* adult filmstore not by my choice and they had a movie title which takes from lock stock.

ATM 06-26-2006 07:27 AM

What was it called?

Lock Stock is a sweet movie, as is Snatch.

Kyle 06-26-2006 07:31 AM

I've already used my imagination on the rhyme of Lock...

Little Man being Erased 06-26-2006 03:22 PM

Fucking bullshit. That's what that game was.

Yeah, I'm pissed off.

ATM 06-26-2006 03:29 PM

I feel for you man. I was cheering Aus the whole way.

Bukowski 06-26-2006 03:29 PM

lol @ little man's avatar/usertitle.

I was really hoping Totti would miss that penalty. It was such an unfair way for the game to end, and another case of sh.itty refereeing. I reckon Australia would've taken the game in extra time.

Really though, the refs have been awful.

Little Man being Erased 06-26-2006 04:00 PM

Yeah I was tossing up whether to have an avatar of the referee or the one I have. It was the most ridculous penalty. Every game Australia played was really poorly refereed.

That's definitely a better lineup, though J Mascis makes up for this year's. Were you there on Saturday as well? Metric and The Fiery Furnaces are playing here soon, so you might want to look out for that.

Tell me you bought it.

6Stringer 06-26-2006 05:58 PM

I watched My Big Fat Independent Movie last night. It was actually pretty funny surprisingly.

I think I'm hitting up that show.

Zappa 06-26-2006 06:56 PM

I would like to play "Electroplankton" for NintendoDS, but I'd rather not shell out $180 (system+game) just to do so. Is there any other reason for someone not typically into video games to purchase one?
