For Envy, everything before A Dead Sinking Story is very screamo, anything after is very post-rock. Ummm, you have most of the essential ****, you should go for some of the bigger names in European screamo, too, like
Daitro Amanda Woodward Gantz Louise Cyphre Sed Non Sataita etc etc. Also, get Cap'n Jazz - Analphabetapolothology, Gospel - A Moon is a Dead World, and any City of Caterpillar stuff. There's a hole lot more, but these are the top things that come to mind. Oh, and Raein ****ing rules.
Thanks a lot, to pixiesfanyo as well. Analphabetapolothology was one of the first emo records I got, initially i thought all emo was SDRE, Promise Ring, etc. Then I discovered Indian Summer (: I already got CoC, their S/T is brilliant. I loved PoP, thanks for the rec. I've heard good stuff about Amanda Woodward. BTW, are Grade and You and I good? Along the lines of Still Life, Indian Summer, Native Nod, Policy of Three.. what else should I get? |
You And I are awesome. also get Belle Epoque, The Third Memory and Dominic if you like Amanda Woodward.

http://thatspunk.linustorvaldsfacts.com/#post12 |
Ok so, until now, I got the following records and I've given them rating according to how much I like them (I'm sure some of them deserve better ratings, like CTTS)
Braid - Frame and Canvas 9.5 Ampere - All out tomorrows... 7.5 Cap'n Jazz - 10 Christie Front Drive - S/T 9 Circle takes the square - as the roots undo 6 (I still cant digest the chaos) Envy - Breathing and dying in this place - 8 Envy - a dead sinking story 9.5 Fuel* - Monument to excess 10 Funeral Diner - the underdark 9 Heroin - discography 9.5 Hoover - lurid traversal 10 hot cross - cryonics 9 Hot water music* - finding the rhythms & fuel for the hate game 10 both Indian Summer - discography 10 Jawbreaker* - unfun and bivouac - 10 (one of my fav bands) Kerosene 454 - situation at hand 9 La Quiete - La fine non è la fine 9.5 (this has some really epic songs! i need more records like this one) Lifetime* - background and seven inches - 10 Maximillian Colby - discography - 8 Native nod - today puberty... 9 navio forge - as we quietly burn.. 9 pageninetynine - doc 8 8.5 Policy of 3 - dead dog summer 9.5 portraits of past - PoP 9 (thanks for this!) Saetia - a retrospective 9 sleepytime trio - memory minus 8 still life - from angry heads with skyward 9 you and i - discography 7.5 * Are these bands emocore? I've always thought of them as pop punk or melodic hardcore or whatever, but ive seen them classified as emo or emocore. So far this is all i have. I've noticed i like early emo the most, moss icon, still life, indian summer, and native nod. However i cant digest bands like orchid. they're great for all they are, but they're just not my cup of tea. Any recommendations? |
Jersey's Best Dancers (Lifetime) sounds a bit like Falling Forward but no not emo really.
hey if you dig Saetia, get Noisy Sins of the Insect: http://thatspunk.linustorvaldsfacts.com/#post107 and for the mid-west emo in you, try rest of my life (they are not mid-west emo but they sound a bit like it with twinkly guitars and such): http://thatspunk.linustorvaldsfacts.com/#post18 two other must haves that I can't offer free download for (legally at least, heh) are Mineral (Christie Front Drive-ish) and Antioch Arrow (Heroin-ish) |
portrait's discography
|
oh yeah for sure. Minnie Driver. s'hit is emo violence lol.
and get Algernon Cadwallader since you like Cap'n Jazz. |
Someone link PoP's discog. I only have the binary album.
|
Antioch arrow i've heard. And I know about the midwestern bands, but just the well-known ones, like SDRE, mineral, promise ring, texas is the reason, etc. I love mineral's albums, even if they get a bit boring at times.
I'm liking Algernon Cadwallader a lot, thanks! |
portrait's discography
So. ****ing. Good. |
my favorite discography tbh even outside of the genre
|
what do they sound like?
|
violins
|
I gave CTTS another shot. I'm beginning to really like this album.
|
violins
plus a dab of power violence and a lot of screaming and noise in general |
there is a lot less screaming and noise in portrait than most bands in their SPECTRUM
|
nono it only seems that way because they play such diverse stuff. or if you mean that there's less screaming and noise in percentage relative to every spectrum in their music, I agree. but the power violence-esque bits are the cooler ones so blah.
|
well i mean there is like over an hour of music on their discog as opposed to 20 minutes of most emo records so ya
|
yeah alright agreed but they are awesome and everyone needs to listen to them
|

The majority of those bands set out to make passionate music within the punk/hardcore template. People need to stop worrying about what is emo and what is not. I'm betting half those bands would laugh at the term :smash: Checkout the following bands, might not be what your after, but they all put out amazing records: Manrae Torches to Rome Facel Vega Please Inform the Captain This Is a Hijack Off Minor What Price Wonderland - 30 with a wink LP (get the rest of their discog too) Orchid (Give them another go!) |

People used to hate on PMFS all the time. I used to dig the first cd and 'Up in Them Guts', that album was pretty dark.
Copper and Stars is an amazing song. |
