You post a lot.
Yeah. It's been almost a month as TEST and I'll have 1000 posts very soon. |
No problem.
I'm thinking about getting another guitar for drop tunings, since some of the covers our band plays is in Drop D down a step. I might get that sexy black cherry DKMG string through off musiciansfriend. Or I might get a nice acoustic to play around with...
the DKMG is wonderful too. i thought to buy the DKMG instead of the DXMG but the DK would be too expensive for my budget. |

Nah the FR is great. But adjusting springs etc on stage might not be the best idea. But, we haven't needed to play Drop C live so its all good. I picked up an acoustic today :D It's an Alvarez, never heard of them before, but its really nice. It was originally about $690 or so, but I got it (and a hardshell case) for $390. It was marked half price cause it was an "almost perfect" guitar. Meaning there's a slight imperfection in it (I have yet to find it) so they won't sell for full price. It's acoustic/electric so I can record nicely with it too. I would have pics, but I don't own a camera... |

No nasty dents, and there is nothing wrong with it that I can tell. The guy there said sometimes they put them on "almost perfect" even if they just buffed a spot too much of something. But, a $690 guitar for $390 = good deal no matter what the "imperfection" might be. ...unless the headstock is torn off or something... |
haha . well done that you like it.
What tuning does your band play in normally?
Drop D usually. The only thing we play that's in standard is For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica, which is easily done in Drop D anyway lol. |
Drop D usually. Any Metallica, is easily done anyway lol.
Fixed. Besides Mustaine wrote the geetar for all their "good stuff". Why DADGBE? CGCFAD pwns DADGBE... |
Fixed. Besides Mustaine wrote the geetar for all their "good stuff".
Why DADGBE? CGCFAD pwns DADGBE...
Nice fix lol. Vocal ranges fit nicely with DADGBE. Also we can get away with E standard covers in Drop D, as well of most of our other covers, which are in Drop D. Any Drop C covers are done in Drop D cause we are already in Drop D :p  |

I personally wouldn't cover something live a step higher (DADGBE 1 step higher than CGCFAD, there's a huge difference) Aren't you into metalcore and stuff like AILD/KSE/etc? Those bands play in CGCFAD, most anyways. So you just convert the power chords to barre chords? Example... D-4 A-4 E-2 D-4 A-4 D-4 ? |

We picked out some new covers to do, which are in Drop C, but right now we have to write more originals. So by the time we need to start doing Drop C songs in Drop C, we will have the money to buy "Drop C guitars". Songs we might do are World Ablaze by Killswitch Engage and Ordinary story by In Flames :) I know Ordinary Story is probably in C standard, but it sounds really really easy, so playing it in Drop C shouldn't be a problem. |
I request Dylan records either Dyers Eve, Disposable Heroes, Battery, Master of Puppets, Damage Inc, Whiplash, Blackened, One, Creeping Death, St. Anger, Fight Fire with Fire. Lets see how you get on with one of those...
|
I'm tempted to record something with this acoustic, but I'm not sure what. Not a full song. maybe just an intro or something...
|

lol. Metallica is like the plague. You just don't touch it. Those aren't insanely technical tunes. FFWF is just fast. Master Of Puppets is boring... Whiplash is fast from what I remember. Blackened is boring... Creeping Death is boring.... St anger? heh. I needed a laugh. I can't remember how Dyers Eve, Disposible Heroes or damage inc go. One is the only Metallica song I'd consider good. Battery is annoying. PS: I'd cover blink 182 or Death Cab For Cutie before I did Metallica. I hate metallica musically. It's bland and boring. I hate them as people to. Mostly Lars though. |

I used to play MoP on an acoustic. kthx. (not the whole song, but most of it). As for Harvester Of Sarrow, the same. I played theintro to st anger and a couple other tunes by them. The only thing in there I don't think I could play, is the One solo. It's not even a debate. Blink > metallica simple plan > metallica deathcab > metallica slipknot > metallica offspring > metallica green day > metallica Fall out boy > metallica Getting the point? |
Well I'd need to proof if you say you can play the Battery riff, Puppets downpicked, disposable heroes properly without stopping, Dyers Eve etc.
The 2nd part isn't worth bothering with, it's your opinion. I know what music you usually listen to so not liking Metallica is understandable. I don't even like them as much as I used to but there's no denying that they're one of the most influential bands in the world ever along with Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Led Zepplin and all them lot. |
