Aakon_Keetreh 09-19-2010 10:42 PM

always to the rescue rasputin. also whats some good melodic black metal? also maybe some good black/thrash metal

rasputin 09-19-2010 10:56 PM

im not really the person to ask for melodic black metal ,but i got a few recs:

daemonarch - hermeticum
fanisk - noontide (NS symphonic/melodic stuff)
gris - Il Était une Forêt... (dsbm)
lake of blood - heed the primal calling
leech - ten black hymns
leech - against leviathan
wendess - s/t
woods of desolation - toward the depths
woods of desolation - sorh

for black/thrash, check my latest post on S4D, the Abhorer one. also:
begrime exemious - everything, but partiuclarly impending funeral of man
bestial raids - reversed black trinity
black witchery - upheaval of satanic might
damaar - triumph through spears of sacrelige
denouncement pyre - world cremation
diocletian - decimator
gospel of the horns - a call to arms
morbosidad - Cojete a Dios por el Culo
naked whipper - painstreaks

DBlitz 09-19-2010 10:58 PM

you probably have listened to destroyer 666 but they are good black/thrash

Aakon_Keetreh 09-19-2010 11:12 PM

thank you

Tyler 09-20-2010 12:37 AM

seviss and megiddo are two musts if you haven't heard them already.

Meatplow 09-23-2010 06:44 AM

anyone wanna do a post-rock primer for in here?

Tyler 09-23-2010 11:44 AM

We can all work on one. I'm wondering if we should have Sludge and Post-Metal, just because there's no category mentioning Neurosis on the front page and that's fuckin' blasphemy.
Post-Rock

Essential and Obvious:

Explosions in the Sky
Sigur Ros
Jaga Jazzist
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Talk Talk

Bands you should check out:

And So I Watch You from Afar
pg. lost
Yndi Halda
Mogwai
Mono
Red Sparowes
Do Make Say Think
y/n? I don't really listen to post-rock anymore.

RouteOne 09-23-2010 11:46 AM

Any bands similar to Frontier Ruckus and The Halifax Pier?

Meatplow 09-23-2010 04:29 PM

will probably add some Don Caballero and Tortoise in there should do for now

Tyler 09-23-2010 04:57 PM

I can live with that, yeah.

Should we combine Post-Metal/Sludge? We could have combined post-metal and post-rock but I think the distinction is actually blurrier with sludge.

Meatplow 09-23-2010 05:20 PM

why not

Ventriloquist 09-23-2010 06:05 PM

Meatplow 09-23-2010 07:25 PM

we'll use that thanks

i can't claim to know anything about post-metal/sludge

Tyler 09-23-2010 07:35 PM
hell no to combining with post-metal and sludge wtf
yeah i donno but we definitely need sludge because there's no Neurosis on the front page and that's blasphemy.

rasputin 09-23-2010 08:53 PM

yeah mixing sludge and post-metal is a bad idea but we can definitely do a seperate sludge section

wnat me to get one started?

Tyler 09-23-2010 08:54 PM

yeasure

only reason i wanted to mix them was so it would be represented, id ont think its the same as post-rock tbh but i think the post-metal fad is over anyways so it's not a big deal

rasputin 09-23-2010 08:55 PM

yeah neurosis is far more appropriately placed in a sludge section

ill get to it right now

Aakon_Keetreh 09-23-2010 09:07 PM

I need some black/drone/ambient something like on Sunn O))) album Black One and something like Gnaw Their Tongues but with no influences of noise.
I need some black/drone/ambient something like on Sunn O))) album Black One and something like Gnaw Their Tongues but with no influences of noise.
from the other page.

Tyler 09-23-2010 09:09 PM

Converge? I can't really agree with that. Or Om, really, but that's moreso because they're terrible.
from the other page.
Nadja

Aakon_Keetreh 09-23-2010 09:12 PM

Couldnt really get into them. Anything else?

rasputin 09-23-2010 09:12 PM

I'm not saying OM or Converge are sludge, I'm saying that if you like those two bands their may be a chance you will like Sludge.

OM for obvious reasons, Converge because a lot of sludge has a lot of hardcore influence in it.

and OM rule stfu

Tyler 09-23-2010 09:13 PM

Still think I'm gonna take Converge out, sorry. Rest is good though, I'll leave Om in.

rasputin 09-23-2010 09:15 PM

There needs to be a hardcore band or two in the bands you may already like, it's important for bands like Dystopia or Accept Death. I just chose Converge because they're well known around these parts.

Ventriloquist 09-24-2010 04:17 AM

Nice list berkay. Can't think any bands to add to that list. I'll do a Post-Metal one later today.

Ventriloquist 09-27-2010 04:38 AM

Post-Metal

Essential and Obvious:

Isis
Pelican
Neurosis
Russian Circles
Cult of Luna

Year of No Light
The Ocean
Omega Massif
A Storm of Light
We Made God
The Psyke Project
Fall of Efrafa
Callisto
A Swarm of the Sun
Minsk
Buried Inside

Don't think I'm missing much since nobody listens to more post-metal than me on mx :p Feel free to add or deduct stuff from my list.

Txus 09-27-2010 09:18 AM

The Chasm?

rasputin 09-30-2010 02:59 AM

yah the chasm prob would be one, also most typical mexican death metal bands might fit the type

kinghui 09-30-2010 06:36 AM

I need some death metal fused with power electronics.

rasputin 09-30-2010 06:39 AM

why

kinghui 09-30-2010 06:42 AM

just curious if any groups fuse noise with death metal, i've heard it in BM but it could be cool if done right

not really after soft ambient stuff thrown in it's gotta be brutal frequencies like Prurient

rasputin 09-30-2010 06:45 AM

yeah it occurs reasonably frequently in black metal but that's because they share some common ground, whereas i think it would be a lot rarer to find that mixed with death metal

perhaps the closest you could come is extremely low end heavy death metal with muddy production - i've never heard of any purposeful combination of power electronics and death metal
