Hey, could you guys critique the Doomish song I'm writing? I want advice on the actual song, not the production or mixing, because I know they're both awful. Also, the drums are off time because I recorded them on my keyboard, and I can't play keyboard drums in time for my life. And the vocals aren't final, I did them really quick because my friend hadn't come over to do them yet. I'm really looking for more advice on the music. This isn't a full song, just an idea.
Here it is...

I liked it a lot. The vocals sound kinda digitalized though. Other than that it was awesome.

pate 02-04-2007 01:46 PM

I'm seeing Solitude Aeturnus on April 20. :):)

Hardhat 02-04-2007 03:22 PM

In Chicago Powerfest? Me too. I'm going for Novembers Doom and Martyr, but I guess Solitude Aeturnus is good too?

Shattered_Future 02-04-2007 03:28 PM

Weeaaaak. I should go to Chicago.

I've heard people talk about Solitude Aeternus quite a bit. Are they traditional? What album(s) should I get?

pate 02-04-2007 03:52 PM

Yes, they are trad. Get Beyond the Crimson Horizon. ****ing perfect album.

Yes, Chicago Powerfest. I'm going for ND as well. \m/

They're epic doom. very different to the Vitus style of things. Much more 'heavy metal'.
What album(s) should I get?
Into the Depths of Sorrow
Through the Darkest Hour.

pate 02-05-2007 09:17 AM

I love every SA album except Alone, which hasn't hit me yet.

Shattered_Future 02-05-2007 02:08 PM

I wish I could go see Novembers Doom...The Novella Reservoir is SUUUCH a good album. Even if it's ridiculously simple.

the2stranger 02-05-2007 02:13 PM

I saw them a month back or so.
<_<

>_>

Still Agalloch > Every other band playing that evening.

Shattered_Future 02-05-2007 02:17 PM

Stupid European.

Solitude Aeturnus is downloading now. Since you guys can't give me a concrete answer, I'm gonna go through their disco.

pate 02-05-2007 05:07 PM

I got their new album and gave it a listen. They are excellent. I'm pumped at seeing them live.

the2stranger 02-06-2007 01:04 PM

Matt:
Indeed, Trev hardly ever posts on MX anymore. let alone in this thread.
I speak to him on occasion on MSN though.

on topic of Saturnus:
Veronika Decides To Die is a great album, if you're going to see them live, enjoy!
They played a great show when I saw them.
The vocalist is a very funnt guy btw.

pate 02-06-2007 07:34 PM

Awesome. Now I'm looking forward to seeing them even more.

Txus 02-06-2007 07:53 PM

Saturnus should do more songs like The Fall of Nakkiel (Nakkiel Has Fallen)

RetiredAt21 02-06-2007 07:59 PM

I like The Funeral Orchestra.

Anyone like? I love this.

Jondur 02-07-2007 02:43 AM

I have the new Warning album. I reckon its the best doom album in about 10 years. It's perfect.

Nostalgia 02-08-2007 02:16 PM

So Unholy is insanely awesome.

Poofy 666 02-09-2007 11:50 PM

Hmmm...I just saw that Boris is playing a show where I live...

Should I go or no?

magicbus 02-10-2007 12:59 AM

Yeah, definitely go. Please.

the2stranger 02-10-2007 09:11 AM

Yes, go.
Boris rock.

I want to see them as well someday.

Poofy 666 02-10-2007 10:20 AM

I'm gonna try to get there for Boris. I hate myself for not being able to see Sunn o))) when they toured last year.

the2stranger 02-10-2007 10:52 AM

Seeing isn't the best expression for a Sunn O))) gig.

you could better say:
''I hate myself for not being able to feel Sunn o))) when they toured last year."

:p

Shattered_Future 02-10-2007 10:56 AM

I still want to go see them.

Any love for Lair Of The Minotaur here?
Heavy as hell..but not too slow to stop you from listening if you don't like your sludge too slow.

Jondur 02-14-2007 06:17 AM

In an attempt once more to turn up the doom in this thread....

I usually shy away from going over the top wqith proclaimations of the greatness of albums I have recently bought. However, I'm going to go out on a limb here...

Musically, the new Warning album "Watching from a Distance" is one of the greatest albums ever released. Lyrically it is the greatest.

If you have any pretensions of liking emotional and crushingly heavy metal then you MUST buy this album. I can't even begin to describe how moving and amazing this album is.

repcak 02-14-2007 06:18 AM

which band? Warning`? never heard of them... traditional doom metal or what?

Apocalyptic Raids 02-14-2007 06:59 AM

Warning are Traditional Doom. I've got one of their previous full lengths and it's great so I'll have to check this out.

repcak 02-14-2007 07:00 AM

i never got a fan of traditional doom metal; i only like funeral and death-doom metal :D
