Hey WALRUS -- I went to Glassboro State in New Jersey during the 70's. It's now Rowan University as 10 or so years ago a guy named Rowan made an endowment of several million dollars to the school, so they changed the name of the school. Guess I'm a diploma orphan now. Hear if he would've thrown in a couple thousand more they would have changed the name of the whole town from Glassboro to Rowan. Yuk, Yuk... me bitter? Not really.
But yeah, we had Billy Joel appear running around on stage in a grey suit wearing sneakers right after the Turnstiles album release. After his next album, The Stranger, he got too big to be playing the campus circuit. FYI -- My wife bought tickets for the McCartney show coming to Philly in September. Guess I'll be attending again, though no-one's twisting my arm if you know what I mean. ---- Hope I'm not assigned to photograph him for the newspaper that night... I don't have the same equipment storage privileges as I do in Atlantic City. That would suck. And finally, I think asking for personal interpretations of lyrics is a fine idea in this thread. But write what it means to you personally. Reams have been written on the meanings, double meanings, triple meanings, etc, etc. Enough critics and doctoral thesis intellectual sleuths have already written books and books trying to get into Lennon's head. Tell why that particular song sings to you. Sure, Lennon took snippets from news, classical literature, and of course the new-found drug culture and mixed them together in various forms. He was a punster and loved to play with words. But he had a knack of finding the right combinations that touched everyone differently. Coupled with his bandmates, the music had a rare way of speaking to individuals individually. And that, of course, is why we are still sitting here today typing away, debating and discussing points and opinions, about a band that was at their height close to 40 years ago. Quite remarkable when you think about it. |
yea, it's not so talkative in there anymore
anything a little more specific?
:D I could narrow it down, but it would have to be an "at the moment" thing: Song: Across The Universe Album: Meet The Beatles |
"When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide"
I'm actually still very horrified how Charles Manson could take such a simple song and turn it into a murderous fevor. |
Favorite Song: Always changes, but right now Mr. Mustard/Pam/Bathroom Window medly.
Favorite Album: Abbey Road. Never changes. Perfection. |

|
Yes,... these posts are more like it. Kudos to all! :)
This morning before work, I pulled out Revolver, plugged in my Hofner, and monkeyed around the frets. 'Tomorrow Never Knows' always stands out for me. The simplicity --- all it is, is a C chord in structure, bass is C only with the octave C as the accent --- coupled with the intricate dissonant backwards and forwards effects and surreal detached vocal, is a masterpiece. Always blows my mind that someone's mind could conceive such a impressionistic composition. |
well there over rated
Welcome to the forums. What a well-thought out, productive post. :thumb: |
well there over rated
You're overrated! And MYR, the Manson thing does slightly diminish the enjoyability of the song:( |
To be honest, I think the Beatles are actually become ing UNDERrated. Not by our parents generation, but ours. Today it seems everybody who doesn't listen to classic rock (and even a few who do) see them as a stupid pop band, and only think of I Want to Hold Your Hand and songs like that, when they are SOOOOO much more.
|
A lot of people in my grade are now Beatles fans.. well they say they are, and they wear Beatles shirts and stuff but they've only heard of one song
|
I agree The Beatles are almost becoming Underated
It seems kids that happen to be classic rock fans would rather listen to Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath than John,Ringo,Paul, and George  |
^^^Yeah, all the classic rock poser fanboys at my school are all BOC, Zepp, Sabbath, etc. though one of them actually has a Let it Be shirt, I was so surprised.
|
Pink Floyd sure seemed to be this years fan boy classic rock band, I've never seen so many Dark Side of the Moon Shirts.
|
Yeah
Dark Side of The Moon 1973 Tour shirts They're everywhere, and the kids probably don't even know who Pink Floyd is. It's pretty sad |
