EDIT: to jamie

Espbassor 08-08-2004 11:02 AM

So I had my first gig last thursday at the Appalachian Brewing Company open mic night. It went pretty well, I messed up in the beginning but I loosened up toward the end. Everyone said I didn't look nervous at all. The last song went horribly wrong, as the lead guitarists guitar went out of tune and it threw the whole song. I was surprised he played through the song with the one string out of tune instead of fixing it or just stop playing or something.

One song required me to do the intro, and right before it I forgot the rhythm. That was pretty scarey, because I knew I had to play quickly or I'd throw everything off. I managed to get it right as soon as I started playing, so it was cool :thumb:

All in all, a good show :thumb:

Bass+Fingers+Amp=Groove 08-08-2004 12:21 PM

hehe guitarists  good gig though.

bump.

The JoZ 08-08-2004 12:23 PM

I haven't posted in the casual threads yet, because I haven't had a need to...well now I do :thumb:

On Thursday, I got an email from this band, SiNN (Stranded in Newport News  ) saying they needed a bassist...well I jammed with them Friday, and I was blown away...these guys have actualy musical knowledge! Like theory, and stuff. Probably not as much as some of the people on here...but when I started asking about phrases and scales and keys and stuff they were thrilled that I knew what I was talking about, and vice versa :thumb:

Yesterday I went jammed again, and have learned 2.5 songs off their 6 song demo CD...it's good stuff, kind of an early Metallica/Pantera-ish sound. The lead guy solos like I've never seen...well, I mean, personally. He busts out Hammett-like solos all the time, it's great. Our drummer is just amazing...he's been drumming through the concert bands and stuff in school, so he knows his stuff...he's quite the speed demon to say the least. And they are all fun to be around, it's great

We might have a gig as early as the 20th...or if nothing else, the 28th. I will keep you all posted as to how it goes :thumb:

Bass+Fingers+Amp=Groove 08-08-2004 12:31 PM

Woah, Finaly something positive in your life, JoZ ;)

i hope you get some headroom to be heard, with a hammet soloing all the time.

sounds very cool.

JoeDaddio 08-08-2004 06:51 PM

I was just playing my bass, and it was like a totak brain fart. I couldn't play anything. Any of you ever have those days? I mean, I sat there for like an hour, and I just couldn't get my mind and fingers to meet up anywhere.

joe[/QUOTE]

Happens to me on a daily basis. I thought I just sucked.

JoeDaddio 08-08-2004 07:15 PM

haha. I mean, I'm not a great player.. I might be able to pass as mediocre in some circles, but today it was like I had picked the **** thing up for the first time in my life.

joe

JamminOnMyGstring 08-08-2004 07:29 PM

I'm like that occasionally.. but usually I can play most anything when I'm straight headed, but if you get any substances in me.. I tend to slow down a bit

PaulSimonon 08-08-2004 07:33 PM

today was weird, I just started playing some bluesy stuff out of nowhere.... I don't normally play blues, and if I do it doesn't sound good... It actually sounded decent!

LightRaven 08-08-2004 07:44 PM

Today, I sold an entire drum set, w/ hardware and cymbals... $600... Sweet sweet commission!

And I made a LARGE map of philadelphia.. I'm studying the demographics, etc.. in order to convince my place of work to open a store in Philadelphia, instead of another one in NJ.
