Thunder Fingers 09-11-2004 07:34 AM

blood brothers is one of maidens best songs, how can you say anything like that?

GurS 09-11-2004 08:56 AM

jannick's solo on blood brothers was the first maiden solo i learnt to play on guitar

unrelated, i reckon adrian's divebomb during the chorus of "aces high" is the best divebomb in a song ever.

I know its a great song, one of my favourites but repeating "we're blood brothers" 4 times as a chorus doesn't really appeal to me.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-11-2004 09:30 AM

It sure appeals to me.

Thunder Fingers 09-11-2004 09:45 AM

its not half as bad as no more lies

blood brothers rocks!

joshuathegr8 09-11-2004 03:33 PM

Well the trooper is a class song and so is iron maiden and phantom of the opera u cant beat its amazing intro.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-11-2004 05:15 PM

I just felt like saying Nicko is god.

GurS 09-12-2004 07:04 AM

so did i.... so i made it my title...

so, about that dive bombing thing, who agrees?

other random thoughts that have come to my head recently: dave's the most mellow one in the band, adrian put on a lot of weight during his 12 years of absence, nicko's hair looked better brown, bruce with short hair > bruce with long hair, jannick looks like a tramp on the back of the FOTD sleeve, and steve should use his signature bass more often.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-12-2004 09:53 AM

Jannick looks evil but hes cool. And ya Adrian does look a little more flabby. And Dave always seems to be smiling.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-12-2004 10:02 AM

But I would be too if I was in Iron Maiden.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 09-12-2004 10:03 AM

And what do you mean by dive bombing.

rik 09-12-2004 11:29 AM

Does anyone else get overcome with how good the part in "afraid to shoot strangers" is at around 2:45 when that guitar riff kicks in. God I ****ing love that.

Yeh it's great, but what about the bit at 3:05 in Dance Of Death when the other guitars join in on the first main electric part...OH FUCKING YES!!! :D

I think it's when the guitarist slides his fretting hand slowly down the strings to make it sound like something is falling from the sky. It's very audible in "Welcome to the Jungle" too.

No, it's pushing down on the tremolo bar to decrease the pitch of the note/s.

Influences

What do you think about bands of today that are influenced by Iron Maiden? For some strange reason, a lot of them are actually pop-punk bands that occasionally throw out some homages to their heroes.

Here are some pictures of a band called Coheed and Cambria. I never thought about it before, but looking at the bassist, he is definitely Steve-influenced. Check out the sweatbands, and the way he plucks the bass:

If that's too subtle for you, then look at what shirt the lead singer is wearing (and the guitar):

So while these bands may never come close to Maiden's level of virtuousity or everlasting appeal, I think they definitely have good taste in music.

ashman 09-12-2004 01:21 PM

The lead guitarist from sum41 was wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt in the in too deep video...not that i have watched it though...

Whoever said that Janick looks like a tramp...its funny 'cos its true

Thunder Fingers 09-12-2004 01:28 PM

for some reason that bassist reminded me much more about Chris Wolstenhome... and the guitar on the other pic... What about it? the only one i remember playing Gibson was Dennis stratton... and sum 41 have an acustic version of The Trooper somewhere...

YDload 09-12-2004 01:36 PM

I thought the guitar looked almost like Adrian's maroon glittery Gibson, but I guess I don't know guitars well.

Thunder Fingers 09-12-2004 01:38 PM

You have an pic of him with that? i usualy dont study the guitars(im an bassist :p) but yeah, it is possible Adrian have played one of thoose, but not as an main guitar :p

Armor O'Malley 09-12-2004 01:39 PM

That bassist reminds me more of Adrian, what with the headband and all.
its not half as bad as no more lies
which is not half as bad as "falling down" x16

which in turn is not half as bad as "dont you think im the saviour, dont you think i can save you, dont you think i can save your life" x5 minutes

the last i heard on the next maiden releases, is the DoD tour DVD around christmas this year, and a maiden album either late next year, or 2006. they're doing another festival tour like the GMETID tour in 2003 in 2005, playing the old songs at festivals, but having only stopped touring a few months ago, i doubt they'll have a whole album's worth of songs ready before they tour, meaning they wouldn't have time to record and release by the winter. so 2006 is more likely.
then there's also Bruce's solo album, which is suposedly being released this year, but i haven't heard anything in a while.
