Jello performed naked one time at a concert with the clash... so I guess they did meet at least once
|
Jello profile bumped. I think they met, if not, they should've. But I think Jello looked up more to The Ramones than to The Clash.
|
Do you guys consider Joe to be the best songwriter of all time? Because I certainly do. The only others that are even close (for me) are Neil Young and Jello Biafra.
Tom Waits>Neil Young, Lou Reed>the rest. The top of the rest are really close; Strummer, ray Charles, Jim Morrison etc. |
yeah, I like Joe more.I started my photography project all over again cause I decided to change the subject and to make it in memory of Joe Strummer. Now I don't know what to call it...ideas?suggestions?
|
Death or Glory? London Calling? Combat Rock? London's Burning? Police and Thieves?
Just pick a song or album title you like. |

Tom Waits is awesome. |
Just pick a song or album title you like.
I like them ALL! |
Do you think strummer was a one off for the universe or will he re-incarnate in another form?
that's a good question... i dont know |
I like them ALL!
Pull one out of a hat. You want one that summarises his life. Death or Glory would be good for that. |
sketchy, i hate the way you're always right about everything.
thanks.death or glory is a good idea. |
sketchy, i hate the way you're always right about everything.
thanks.death or glory is a good idea.
A lot of people hate me because of that. |
And I love you for being my loveslave.
|
I hate each and every one of you.
I just got back from the bookstore. They had two Clash books there, one was "The return of the last gang in town", and the other was "Joe Strummer and friends". Both were over $20 so I couldn't get either |
i want to read the return of the last gang in town.
Joe Strummer & friends...what a gay title:lol: |
being gay is punx
sup kids? |
Meantime, We're cutting our hands
On the ke-bab shop In the streets of fear Forgetting all those best Tai-kwon-do moves On a barrel of beer We trying to get a signal Through from Ragga F.M Do the D.T.I Bust CNN? |
Joe and Jello did meet. I SWEAR I once saw a pic with Jello, and the Clash. I forgot where though .
|
The Clash definitely knew of DK. There's an interview in which the interviewer asks Joe if there's such a thing as an american punk band and he says no but Mick says "What about the Dead Kennedys?"
|
you better find it!
plz :thumb: |
Yea, I want to read that.
I also read an interview where the interview asked Joe if he liked any straight edge bands. Joe said something about not being sure what straiht edge was because "In England we like our beer and cigarettes!" EDIT: 2000th post in the thread! :chug: |
:lol:Joe and straight edge in the same sentence.never thought i'd hear that.
we're officially clash whores.I'm still the queen. |
I wanna hear some 101'ers stuff, but it's been super hard to find. So far all I've heard is Surf City and that 15 second clip in Westway.
|
The 15 second clip in Westway sounds awesome .
And I'm the king of Clash whores :). |
i wrote a super long post and my computer ****ed up.lame :upset:
i have a couple 101ers songs somehwere on my computer so i can send them to you when i'll find them.I also got the whole Eartquake Weather album on slsk.Havent listened to it yet. I've read a story of a girl who wrote a good review of EW back in the days and when Joe went to LA, he called her to go eat something with how. That's just how nice he was.And this cute story of a guy who was drinking behind the venue with his friends after a show and Joe came out and asked them if they wanted to play with his telecaster, so they played guitar and after, Joe asked them if they wanted to go to a party with him but they had a bus to catch...years later, the same guy was in a band opening for Joe cause Joe inspired him to start a band. How cute. |
:lol:i've found my first post in this forum ever.december 1st 2004.
I understand that some ppl now think the clash are not punk. But back in 1977, they were. And anyway, they were writing political songs. And I respect them a lot cuz they included other styles in their music, and they didn't give a **** what ppl were saying about them."Ohhh they're not punk anymore"'...they must have heard it wayyyyy too often. The Clash is my favorite band. No matter is they're punk or not. Just look at how they never wanted to reform the clash even for all the money...i think it deserves a lot of respect.any band would have decided to take the money and to forget their convictions.but not the clash. i was already a clash whore. EDIT:this is andy clash thread police speaking: i wont be there tomorrow clash city rockers, but dont spam this thread too much heh :p |
I dont care what anyones says that the clash arent punk , they are just idiots.
Joe Strummer practically invented the other (sensible) side of punk (the opposite of the sex pistols pure wank off music) Every clash song is punk in some way, there is no who ever lived who is more punk than strummer. no one will ever ever meet the bar joe strummer and the clash set not only for punk but music in general. The Clash did not "sell out" because they didnt change their music they just added different styles to their palette of greatness. The Clash never changed labels and fired their gay manager who try to screw with their sound on Give Em Enough Rope The Clash released london calling cheaper than a double LP and it was selling for the price a single LP , in doing so they lost royalties. The Clash also released Sandinista! , a triple LP for the price of a single LP , in doing so they never got paid for their work on that album. name one band who can match that!? The bands so called "hits" are dubious. Train in Vain is a mo-town number NOT a POP song and it wasnt even put on cover. Rock The Casbah is not even remotely close to being a 'POP' song because its not a simple melody and the lyrics arent "POP". Should I Stay or Should I Go Now? is a three chord pop song. okay! thats not bad to have one pop song out of your whole body of work. The ramones did alot of stuff that can be considered POP styled but they dont cop flak about it do they? In Summing up my Rant I say the famous words of Joe "I will always believe in punk rock , because it is about making something for yourself" (not something for others in a rigid gay elistist punk form). The Clash beleived in what they were doing , and they stood for something important. |
yeah, i hate when things are gay and elitist.
|
dont look in the mirror then
|
oh well i didnt want to start a debate about if their punk or not, but i agree with you white riot.
Joe Strummer always represented punk for me.but again, punk is different for everybody so someone else might think he wasnt punk at all.who cares. |
