Yea, I've been looking into littler places in Penn. and Ohio and then bigger famous places that are probably impossible for me (unless of course somewhere online they have Juilliards' audition pieces). I've been pretty interested in Carnegie Mellon but I don't know if I've got the grades so I'm going to try and get into their music school (admissions is based mostly off audition). But so yea, what's an etude?
An etude is simply a piece of music that focuses on the display or development of a specific technique. So an etude or equivalent exercise would probably be a song or exercise that highlights a specific technique of playing.
Hey everyone

Ok so I'm an HS junior and some of you are probably going through this college search thing. I've been looking into different schools with good majors in Music and even Schools of Music. I'm curious if you guys have any suggestions (besides the obvious Juilliard).

Also, I was looking up Carnegie Mellon's School of Music and they want an "3. An etude or equivalent technical exercise. " What exactly is that?

/to be a little on topic, I hate Jacksons... or at least the one I have.
AN etude is a classical guitar study. They are songs that are focus on a certain technique. If you are goign to school for guitar you should look for a renowned guitarist and not necessarily the school because its really all about who you studied with. I suggest takking a look at UCLA. They have four guitar Professor there one of them composed Sunburst.

Josh 03-18-2006 02:15 PM

the college at the uni i'm going to if i get the grades has a recording studio  its not even a music college.

NP: Iced Earth - Consequences.
i love this song.

Anyone else have the urge to spam the Alice in Chains thread with numerous "Grunge is for fags" comments?

Mr. Black 03-18-2006 03:04 PM

There is a place at school called a CLC, which is awesome for creating music and films.
