yea jack what are you talking about?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times. But just to clear up something between me and my friend, what tunings does metallica use? I always thought it was D standard for most of their old stuff, and then Eb on Load.
I'm sure someone knows this better than I do. :upset: |
They used Standard E from Kill 'Em All to Justice. I think 'Metallica' perhaps had a few songs with different tunings, then after that, I'm not too sure about. I think most of St. Anger was in CGCFAD, but I can't be too sure.
|
they use drop d on st.anger dont they?

wOOt wOOt i got 4th most posts in here now, finally passed up burdcheese :thumb:
|
Drop D Tuning down 1 step, which is CGCFAD.
Edit: About St. Anger tuning. |
Thanks guys. Yeah I was pretty sure load/reload was Eb, but I was never sure about the older stuff. For some reason I thought it was all in DGCFAD. Battery kind of sounds like it but I don't know.
Obvious quote of the day.
Do i get an award? |
all the songs on St. Anger are drop C which the songs are ok but they're not like the old stuff load/reload stuff. it sounds like they r trying to song more like the younger metal bands. i did like some of the one whole step down tuning on songs off of Garage Inc. like Whiskey in the Jar. i think it would have sounded wierd any other way.
|
I think that one of the reasons the tuning has gone down is that James cant sing like he used to, his voice has gotten deeper, so he cant reach the high notes that he could when he was 20 odd, their old stuff is now in Eb, as they play it live, the s&m dvd gives some indication, and probably its also ease of tuning for everyone, i hate trying to go from standard to Eb for two different songs if i want the same tone from one guitar
|
i've noticed that not many other people like Load and Reload, and I can't see why. They're both great albums, but are very different styles from Metallica's earlier stuff, which doesn't automatically mean that they suck.
|
I've been into the Outlaw Torn a lot lately..both the S&M and Load versions are awesome, I like it better on S&M though because the solo sounds better and it's a more natural Hetfield (on Load, the vocals sound forced IMO)
Hetfield also blew his voice out on the black album soo.. |
That and he does solos as well. Master of puppets, nothing else matters, etc...
and the second solo in To Live is to Die |
Do i get an award?
Not yet. |
What is your avatar?
It changes all the time, but currently it is a random thing that I cleverly made in paint... As for tunings: Kill, Ride, Puppets, Justice, Black were in standard tuning and the Ramones covers on the St. Anger singles were too (and "Electric Remote", a very rare song which I didn't even know existed and I'm still not sure of it's existance) Load, Reload, Garage (I don't own), S&M were in Eb St. Anger in Drop C. There are however a few exceptions...."The Thing That Should Not Be" is in Drop D, as is "Devil's Dance". "Sad But True" and "Whiskey In The Jar" was in FULL D, "The God That Failed" was in Eb, "Bad Seed" and "Dirty Window" are in Drop C#. Invisible Kid actually uses two different tunings for both guitars (James uses Drop G#, which is now how they play it live), and Kirk uses a weird tuning.... low to high D# G# D# F# A# D# with a DigiTech Whammy Pedal to hit the low notes. Live tunings: All songs which are in standard are now played in Eb, as well as the other Eb songs. Seek And Destroy however is now played in Full D, and TTTSNB is played in Drop C#. I think Devil's Dance is too.
The guitar used in the 'One' video was I believe the KH-2, and the film was called 'Johnny Got His Gun'.
Hey thanks, im gonna have a look for that on amazon, maybe have a look for cliff 'em all while im at it :thumb: |
has anyone noticed that the riff from Exodus' "Hell's Breath" is the same as "Trapped Under Ice"?
|
Do they play the songs in Eb now because James cant sing that high anymore?

Yeah, they do. Also I think they like the sound. |
I just saw "Some kind of Monster" and I thought it was cool. I know it took me a while but alas, I am a cheap bastard. It was pretty cool getting to see how they worked and what it was like (sorry for the cliche) behind the scenes. How do you guys think the band would be now if Newsted was still in? I like em now, always have always will. But I wonder what it would be like if they had put all the crap away, gone through it with Jason and still come out getting rid of all the troubles they had. Rob is the man as far as I'm concerned but it would have been sweet if they had stayed together.
|
Yeah, Metallica is awesome. Im learning some of their old stuff on drums.
-Disposable Heroes -One -The Frayed Ends of Sanity -To Live is To Die I'm learning pieces of those right now. They're all really fun. Lars is the best. |

I've heard about that before, but I haven't heard that Exodus song. |

Well, St. Anger wouldn't have appeared, that's for sure. I don't know, I have a feeling they might have either broken up, or made a ReReLoad |
