I just realized yesterday that by opening the first page of this thread you can find out what I was interested in over 3 years ago.

Kage 05-24-2007 12:41 PM

What was your old name?

ATM 05-24-2007 01:32 PM

Zappa

okay, so I just looked back in this thread, looks like in the begining of 2005 I was diggin:

Apocalyptica
EITS
Kings of Convenience
People Under the Stairs
Dandy Warhols
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Funkadelic
Sage Francis

YDload 05-24-2007 02:35 PM

Amy Winehouse is sweet.

Robert Crumb 05-24-2007 03:03 PM

The Flys and Jorge Ben.

My first post in this thread was like three paragraphs long.

ATM 05-24-2007 03:05 PM

Crumb, hook me up with some good beach music similar to Jorge Ben. I'm leaving for the Cayman Islands and I need some good stuff.

Anxious 05-24-2007 03:08 PM

Zappa- Roxy and Elsewhere

Village of the Sun,Enchida's Arf (Of You), and Don't You Ever Wash that Thing, are killer.

pulseczar 05-24-2007 03:10 PM

If you want a good compilation of Brazilian tropicalia music (including Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben) try looking for Various Artists - Beleza Tropical v. 1

to ATM

ATM 05-24-2007 03:11 PM

Awesome, I'll search for it.

that's possibly his best 70's album, except for "Joe's Garage."

If you haven't got Jorge Ben's Tabua de Esmeralda get that first. I'd also suggest some Nara Lećo, although she's not much like Jorge's funkier stuff. Coisas do Mundo is good album if you can find that one, her 1964 s/t is really nice too. Very laid back. The s/t is very much laid back, the other is a little more diverse. You can get Tabua de Esmeralda and Nara Lećo's s/t and other stuff (lots I haven't heard) here:

http://umquetenha.blogspot.com/search/label/Nara%20Le%C3%A3o

Quality of the downloads might be meh, though.

If you want something a little more energetic or psychedelic, try Marcos Valle's Vento Sul. I downloaded here: http://brnuggets.blogspot.com/search?q=vento+sul but I dunno if that link still works. I'd probably listen to Tom Ze's Estudando o Samba if I was on a beach right now. If you like the Nara Lećo, it might be worth picking up some Joćo Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Chega de Saudade, O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor and Wave are all pretty sweet. His album with Elis Regina is pretty good too, if you're looking for laid back stuff. That first blog has most of those albums.

Actually, before you download anything get this:

How is that? I love The Flaming Lips but I've never found the idea of having to play the thing on four separate cd players particularly appealing.
