the album is horrid
I still have several songs to go, though it's grim.

Vicarious is the best. Jambi is okay. The rest was boring.

kellyisradical 04-21-2006 10:18 PM
I dont like Maynard's vocals at the beginning of The Pot, but after that the song is very good. My favorite so far is Jambi, followed by Vicarius.
those 3 are th eonly songs that are actual songs iwth singing everything else is filler and him mumbling

Toaster 04-21-2006 10:21 PM

I think Vicarious is the worst by far, actually.

Tools definatly a band that has to grow on you. Give the songs another chance. I haven't heard them myself, but I imagine their not boring...

Have you heard their other albums? Lateralus? Aenima?

Otherside 04-21-2006 10:24 PM

I can't believe you people are actually having this argument. Seriously, stop acting like a bunch of fucking idiots, please.

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-21-2006 10:59 PM

I think the album is incredible and incredibly original. I love how they've added so many different things to their music.

Also, I think Intension is very underrated and Right In Two is overrated, but still a good song.

misunderstood 04-21-2006 11:13 PM

Ah, I'd managed to stay away from this thread for a while but I just saw this over at the ToolHotline and thought I'd post it here:
http://play.com/Music/CD/4-/1001186/Salival/Product.html

Looks like Salival is gonna be re-released again on May 15th. Finally we might be able to get it for a good/low/decent price ($18) instead of going on ebay and paying nearly $200 for one. I really wish this wasn't an online thing only though...and I really wish we didn't have to get it imported but I haven't seen this anywhere else but this site. Oh well.

deadohiosky9 04-21-2006 11:52 PM

Holy s'hit, I already have Salival but that's awesome.

kellyisradical 04-22-2006 12:03 AM

Futuro 04-22-2006 12:06 AM

In order to save me the pain of individually responding to the hundreds of emails I’ve received in the past week about these so-called leaked track listings and other message board rumors (like Cheech, I’ve a lot of **** to do today), I’ve decided to post my reply to one that this typical of the others with hopes that it will curtail the amount of querist clones flooding my inbox: With regards to your question pertaining to “leaked track listings”, perhaps the band members should thank those individuals responsible for such pettifoggery (as someone’s grandfather once called it), saving them the time and energy of fabricating their own spurious album title and track listings (not to mention the expense of actually recording a decoy ‘Toolish’ album – which would be delightfully paradoxical and astoundingly foolish) just to thwart the best intentions of potential bootleggers. I’m afraid the guys have really thrown you a curve this time, as there are currently no song titles with decidedly ethereal names like “Aldaraian”, “Mandalic”, “Hyparxis”, etc. The new release is NOT Lateralus II, and the track listings reflect an altogether different mood. In the Kerrang ? interview (excerpts of which have been posted on the internet), Danny is quoted as saying “This is our blues record. We’re singing the blues.” (NOTE: you might recall that in the January newsletter, Obelisong, the spirit evoked during a Ouija Board Working, when asked what the name of the vocalist in the band was, replied BLUES BIALO, meaning blues voice.) Keeping this in mind, the actual track listings are far more – how should I put it – down to earth than “Laiad Kayenth”, “Paramnesia”, “Luminesce Kaon” and other ‘painted sepulchers, and any would-be ‘Cagliostros’ out there might want to factor this in (as opposed to using Lateralus as a template) when concocting any future bogus titles to disseminate on the web (for whatever reason).

Spiritofmosa 04-22-2006 12:39 AM
I'm starting to think this album is highly satirical. Alot of the riffs are ripped straight from their past songs, its almost like they're mocking themselves or something. I think they leaked a few real songs like Vicarious, Wings for Marie and 10,000 days as a fake album with some remixes, because stuff like Jambi and Rosetta Stoned sounds like their old songs touched up a little.
i like how the riffs are similar to songs from lateralus. It gives a feeling of continuity and progression.

'recycling riffs' doesnt sound like a good thing.. they are not blink182 , i trust a band like Tool would have a serious rationale for the music they write

No. They aren't as bad as Blink.

Any hardcore or metalcore.

Many Death metal bands.

Jetpack 04-22-2006 01:15 AM

definitely don't you guys ever hear songs that sound just like other songs you've heard?

I don't think its necessarily a bad thing, theres things i enjoy from bands and I like hearing the same type of thing in diffferent songs

misunderstood 04-22-2006 01:38 AM

The packaging for 10,000 Days looks great! The Tool Hotline posted some pictures of the packaging. Looks like it will include some special glasses to view the stereoscopic images.

Shadius 04-22-2006 02:03 AM
And finally:

After looking at these questions, how can you possibly think that downlaoding the album is *not* disrespectful to the band..?
You have to ask yourself how respectful Tool are to their fans, ****ing with us most of the time. If they can lie to me, I can d/l a leak a bit early, I'd tell Maynard as much, it's a healthy relationship.

Obviously I'm going to buy the CD, and i've even bought Tool merch, and will buy more and hopefully go to shows if they come to the right areas. This supports the band more than d/ling a leak, which has no effect on sales whatsoever as far as i'm concerned.

Most people whining about respect would d/l leaks by any other band, pedistals are bad things to put people on.

I think that's sticking to a certain style or sound, rather than recycling riffs. Slayer's first five is a good example.

On the release date of the new album:

I'm getting it April 30th, according to my local CD store.

Spiritofmosa 04-22-2006 03:31 AM

whats the release date in singapore !

...Who the hell are you?

Anyway...

The new album has definately overtaken Undertow as a whole in my favourite Tool albums spot. Which I guess makes it a 3.5 or a 4 or more which is what i'd rate that album.

I rated Ænima and Lateralus as 5's... so i'm not sure if it's going to overtake them, but we'll see!
