i already know im going to like the new one
|
Man, I have fallen out of the loop of black metal recently. But I have been on heavy kick of black metal the past few days. Do you guys have any recommendations of some new stuff I should check out?

Seems like they've gone away from the "orchestration" and moved into heavy, heavy horn sections. It's not just Mikannibal's sax, either, the dude from Sear Bliss provides horns too. It's a lot to take in. edit: The Summer Funeral might be the best song Sigh has ever done. |
Going to go see Marduk in a few days. Hopefully it will be epic.
AA: On Immortal records, they would end songs on a note; instead of having that note ring out, it was like drrrrrrrrrrrr, and it just stopped. There were all these little signs like that. They never let notes ring out. You knew there was an intellectual framework that was being placed on how they made these songs.
looool |
bump for that
so which of their albums does it equate closest to then?
Hard to say. It's probably still closest to Hangman's but it makes HH feel like it was just a blueprint. This has a more evil aesthetic (even with the trumpets, which kind of dissipate in the second half of the album) and it has a pretty substantial Hail Horror feel to it. |
is the production solid? it was awful on HH.
|
What? The production is fine on HH. And yeah, it's solid. The first bit of the record is so busy that it can get a little disorienting at first but it does the trick. James Murphy did a good job.
|
it was crystal clear and way overproduced.
"awful" is a bad term, since it was well produced. i just hated the way it was done. |
I think you're confusing "crystal clear" with the fact that the instruments were largely synthesized. You can't exactly have a raw-edge to computerized symphonics.
This has a little more 'fuzz' to it, though. Guitars sound better. In fact, it's a lot more guitar oriented in spite of all of the other instruments going on. And I have to say it again, Mikannibal was such a great addition. Her vocals are outstanding and the sax playing is pretty tasteful and understated. I mean, she goes insane on it and there are a few sax-shredding instances but it somehow never really feels out of place. |
sax-shredding, hell yes

Does anyone have any Black Angel (PER) albums?
**** is some of the grimmest stuff ever, but so ****ing hard to find. |
The Black Speech is an authorised set of short horror stories based on the lyrics of Varg Vikernes and the band of Burzum. Join Varg's pudendum The Count Grishnackh and his courageous retainers, the Crimson-Steeds on fantastical adventures in abstract lands. With a set of loosely linking stories this narrative explores each of Varg's conceptions and brings his creations in to a new light. Supported by the Cathulhu Mythos and the creatures of H.P Lovecraft's expansive world you will enter into a horror of ages past. Within these dark pages you will also find the controversial and stylistic account of Varg's crimes, from the church burnings to the infamous murder on that night so long ago. Forward by Hecarte Enthroned
wtf? has anyone heard of this? |
