Yeah, no one posted for about two days, so I thought "Say something. Say ANYTHING" and did. I would love to hear Rhapsody cover The Trooper. |
I could never get into rhapsody -_-
Also, bands should cover something else then the trooper. Its been done a million times, there are plenty other good maiden songs out there. |
The thing is they are not popular and covers are all about popular.
|
Yeah, but out of 14 albums you'd expect there to be a song that as many people know as the Trooper =\
|
I would love to see someonecover one of the epic's like ATG or Paschendale.
|
Maybe a Blind Guardian or Therion cover of tLotLDR :D
...christ i'm bored as hell in class right now  |
soon i will return....
ie. once i start uni next week :) the new albums grown on me considerably since i was last on, but it's still not one of my all-time favourites, i reckon it'll be much better live. |
not many bands could get anywhere near as close as maidens though, it's a lot to live upto, especially if they're doing a straight metal cover, i'd like to see more obscure ones like the zwan one of NotB
anyone know of any? |
 I didn't even know Zwan did a cover of NotB... And tbh I really can't imagine wtf that would sound like in the slightest.
The only covers I know are the mostly mislabeled ones on Limewire or whatever.. covers of Aces High, The Trooper, etc. |
Iced Earth did a good cover of Hallowed. Good, not great.

It's very distinctive with its riffs, but still something that is fairly easy to put your own style onto. EDIT: It's worth mentioning that my band covers The Wicker Man. |

They've also covered Transylvania on their Horror Show album. I thought they did a good job with that one, it wasn't bad. |
Yeah, I liked that one. Heavier, as is to be expected from them.
|
Ehh.. I've been meaning to get into Iced Earth for a while now =\ All I've heard aside from some assorted songs, was my buddy's Horrow Show cd in math class one time. You guys have any suggestions of what some chillin IE albums are? :) (i've heard great things about The Glorious Burden)
|
Night of the Storm Rider or Something Wicked this Way Comes are my favorites. If you can find Alive in Athens, buy it immediately, it's my favorite live album ever (3 discs!)
The Glorious Burden is good, but unlike typical Iced Earth and I've seen many mixed opinions. But the Gettysburg trilogy is the best thing they've ever written. |
By golly !
/IE talk Uhh, what Deth says !? I suck when it comes to recommending IE albums. |
Nice, thanks dude, I'll check those out when I go home this weekend. My college sucks in terms of location to any sort of establishment that sells CDs.. and a lot of other things
|
I finally got the tribute album Numbers From The Beast. It pwns hard.
Fear of the Dark featuring Chuck Billy, Craig Goldy, and Mickey Dee. Wrathchild featuring Paul Di'Anno and Alex Skolnick Wasted Years with Dee Snider. The Trooper with LEMMY!!! The Wicker Man with John Bush and Scott Ian I have listened to this album like 8 times in two days so far. /calms down. |

EDIT: It's worth mentioning that my band covers The Wicker Man.
My band to ^_^ anyway, all day today i have had a cold and i felt like shti. I had to go to baseball practice with a effin cold and i got yelled at a million times. Drive home took 2 hours. My day couldnt have gone worse. Then, my dad texted me saying my AMOLAD has arrived. And i am beaming, i have waited way too long for this . |

it's acoutic, and really different to the original, it might be under Djali Zwan, but i can always ulpoad it if you can't find it/want to hear it. |
^
You can find it up on youtube. Ok now that i have listened to the album the hwole way through, i can now share my thoughts. To be honest atm this defianetely isnt my favorite maiden album. It has a few bum tracks and a few good(awesome) tracks, but in a whole its pretty good. I can definately see why this album is described as a grower. And it will probably grow on me in the future. But i must say, the lyrics on this album are phenominal, best lyrics in a long time. One major problem i had with this album was how low bruces vocals are. I could barely hear it durring a few parts of the album. I also dont really like the 'live-ness' they did with his voice. Tracks: Some compared OotS to tears of the dragon, to be honest i like tears of the dragon better. i didnt really like the pilgrim on first listen FtGGoG = pwnage I didnt really like LoL aswell as the legacy Everything else was awesome The longest day is amazing In a whole it sounded alot different then anything else i have heard from maiden. :) |

But my oppinion has definately changed now. |
Wow, The Frank.
OotS-Your right, Tears Of The Dragon is better, but I'd say it's compared as they sound alike in some ways. The Pilgrim-I kinda' agree, and still do..It's still yet to REALLY catch me. LoL- Quite good song. The intro is complete garbage, but once you get past it... (A good eek lol) The Legacy-Probably my new all time favorite Maiden song. It's insane. Just..Pure awesome. Everything else-OMFGZORZ! :amaze: |

Amen. I love that song so much. It has such an epic and important feel. I personally love every song on the album and think that it is definitely one of Maiden's strongest efforts. |
Np:these colors dont run (i <3 this song)

Also, the acoustic guitar in the background works really well. LoL is slightly weak, but the chorus is pretty anthemic. I agree with everything you say though. Also, The Three Amigos were on the front cover of Guitarist magazine this month. It's pretty cool article: probably nothing you didn't know about the band before (if you've read RttH and been on here for the past six months or so). Some interesting pictures of them in their old days and some stuff on gear, naturally. Also, Adrian has some intersting things to say about modern bands, most of which I think he's dead on with:
Q: Do you hear Maiden's influence in younger metal bands? A: [His son] plays me bands like Atreyu and they have guitar solos, which is good. A lot of these bands have got the attitude and great sounds, but it would be nice to hear a bit more playing and actual singing from some of them. [I agree so much with that: Trivium, take note -P] Q: Do you think there's enough melody in modern metal? A: No. I think it relies too much on shock value, which is great to a point [not really -P] but for longevity you have to have something more. But even Slipknot have done that - their Wait And Bleed is a very melodic song, for example. [/me slaps H with a flipper]
|
Atreyu & Slipknot
Anyway, i took a break from my AMOLAD listening to listen to 3 tracks off of SSoaSS (the prophecy, only the good die young, and clairvoyant) and to be honest it made me really sad. To know that maiden will never sound like that again :( The Pilgrim is starting to really grow on me though, i love the 'turn water into wine' part. |
Well the direction that they'll take on the next album remains to be seen.. but I agree with you, it'd be amazing if for their last ( hopefully not  ) album they created something more like in their golden years and just show up every single other band out now :)
|
didn't steve say he'd changed his mind, and that it won't be their last (like originally planned 15 maiden albums), because they're so happy with the way this one came out, they just want to keep doing it.
And i know i'm a bit biased but to me AMOLAD really does show up every other band out there. |
