Calculus is so cool.

The Great Decay 11-02-2005 04:48 PM

I plan on taking calculus next year.

Little Man being Erased 11-02-2005 04:48 PM

I used to really like maths at high school and uni.

Zappa 11-02-2005 04:49 PM

Calculus is the first math class I've taken that I really think is super sweet.

The Great Decay 11-02-2005 04:50 PM

I've enjoyed math since elementary school.

Little Man being Erased 11-02-2005 04:54 PM

We don't have seperate maths subjects like calculus, trigonometry, and whatever else there is over here. We just have levels of difficulty in senior high school.

The Great Decay 11-02-2005 04:55 PM

I'm currently in uni. level math, but next year it becomes separate classes such as Calculus, and such.

Little Man being Erased 11-02-2005 04:59 PM

Yeah, in uni there were specialised subjects, just not in high school.

I wasn't very good at calculus. I got a C for a final grade in AP calc. It translates to a B since we had weighted grades, but still... I'm not so great at math. I mean, there's nothing cooler than learning how to do derivatives the easy way (have you gotten that far Zappa?), and being able to integrate it back as a way of checking your work, but it was still rough for me.

BillCosby 11-02-2005 05:17 PM

I'm in Pre-Calculus right now, I've never liked math. Even if I like the teacher, I still never do well or enjoy it.

I just got an A- in my first quarter of AP Calc, which is the highest grade I've gotten in a math class throughout my four years. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "the easy way" of finding a derivative. So far we've basically learned the power rule, the product and quotient rules, the rules for trig functions, the chain rule, and today's lesson was on implicit differentiation.

Luxor 11-02-2005 05:28 PM

I got 51% in math for my first 3 years of highschool

I r smart

Ah, well when we started the class we had to put various terms into this huge formula in order to find derivatives, and it was a real pain but I guess it helped us learn the theory behind it. We didn't know that you could just take each term down a power and multiply it by the coefficient at first :(

Electrocution 11-02-2005 05:36 PM

I used to be in the smart kid math book in elementary school, but I've gotten progressively worse over the years. I have a B in Precalc :/

biografiend 11-02-2005 05:40 PM

Heh we just learned the easy way to do derivatives last week in Calculus. I really like it too, the theories and all that are really interesting. I pulled an A in that class for the quarter, too, so that made it even better.

The NPC 11-02-2005 05:50 PM

Calculus eh?

giventofly 11-02-2005 05:53 PM

i got like a 108% in my high school calc class, but when i got into college, they moved me down a step....i don't think i tested well....it was a semester after i took the class after all

That long "formula" is just the definition of a derivative. We did that too.

Some fool wrote an editorial in my newspaper today saying how horrible and awful and bad Halloween is.

My two cents: Don't let idiots write editorials :)
I used to get all As in maths; then from about 13 on I declined to the point where I physically couldn't bear to do it. I stuck it out in the honours class, stupidly but to my credit, and almost failed which would have required me to repeat my final year. Anything remotely mathematical or scientific repulses me now.
I'm the same but less dramatic.

I was always an A+ student in science, A in math. I just didn't like either course, so at the first available opportunity I stopped taking the courses.

I'd go with the new one Feels, I prefer it over Sung Tongs. But if you want something less poppy and more frenetic go with Here Comes the Indian.
