Just like when Glassjaw uses the detuned guitars on track 12?

pixiesfanyo 01-09-2007 02:29 PM

lol @ track 12 being the only soft track on worship and tribute.

whiteminority 01-09-2007 02:43 PM

lol @ me not ever hearing that because Glassjaw piss me off.

cobert 01-09-2007 03:37 PM

Elaborate on the piss off part.

ROFL AT THE UNITED STATES IN SOMALIA

AIRIC 01-09-2007 03:43 PM

Haha yeah I know. When my global perspectives teacher brought up the BBC site this mornign to read us that story I just sighed.

srt-4 01-09-2007 04:35 PM
srt, about Brand New's newest:

If you liked the jump they made from YFW to Deja, then yeah, you'll like it. They moved in the same direction again. It's really deep and not-so-straightforward. I think it's an awesome album.

If you want it, IM me.
ya, i never could get into your favorite weapon, but i dig deja entendu. thanks.
6'5" 250
seriously?
ROFL AT THE UNITED STATES IN SOMALIA

I just sighed.
why?

AIRIC 01-09-2007 06:00 PM

Because just because there's alleged terrorists in an area doesn't mean we should bomb it.

srt-4 01-09-2007 09:23 PM

i understand what you're saying, and its sad when innocent people die. but you make it sound like we’re dropping 2,000 lb bombs in downtown mogadishu. we’re carrying out strikes by ac-130s in remote, nearly inaccessible areas of the country. i haven't read of any bombs being used. we have had forces in the area for some time collecting intelligence and identifying targets, as well as receiving intelligence from the somalis. we aren't picking targets at random.

the somali government is in favor of the strikes. it wants us over there helping. this is the best shot at a positive future that country has had in a long time, and we're supporting it, while at the same time dealing a blow to our enemies. we probably have now killed the guy responsible for planning the embassy bombings. in general, this is good for the US, our allies, and the somali people. its regrettable when innocents are harmed in our strikes, but these actions are necessary, and we do everything we can to minimize those occurrences.

cobert 01-09-2007 09:32 PM

One of the people in the upper levels of the Taliban, Im pretty sure its Osamas new right hand man, issued for muslims in the area to attack ehtiopian troops.

Juss sayin'

srt-4 01-09-2007 09:48 PM

you mean al qaeda? of course they did. the ethiopians are providing the muscle for the somali government to push out the islamists, in a sort of proxy war with eritrea. ethiopia is majority christian, and has received training from US forces, sf i believe.

Flagjacket 01-09-2007 09:51 PM

I recall something about the US bombing a medicine factory in Africa once because they thought it was an anthrax plant, but then again I saw that in Bowling For Columbine, so.....

AIRIC 01-09-2007 09:54 PM

Obviously I don't know much about the conflict here and I kind of regret opening my mouth sometimes on issues like these because I'm really not properly informed on it.

srt-4 do you know anything about Israel's nuclear bunker buster type thing? I read they're going to be bombing Iran with bombs like this to destroy their nuclear program?

Flagjacket 01-09-2007 09:55 PM

Wouldn't that just set off nuclear warheads underground?

AIRIC 01-09-2007 09:58 PM

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Sunday_Times_says_Israel_is_planning_nuclear_strike_against_Iran

Obviously take Wikinews and all the sources provided with a grain of salt.

srt-4 01-09-2007 10:02 PM

no, it wouldn't, and they don't even have bombs yet.

the strike would be to destroy the program before they got nuclear weapons. it isn't that israel has a special weapon. the use of tactical nukes has been planned and theorized for some time. i really don't know any operations details other than what i read in the news. was that all you were asking, or were you asking for my opinion on a possible strike?

AIRIC 01-09-2007 10:03 PM

Sure give your opinion. I was just curious if you knew enough about it to elaborate.

cobert 01-09-2007 10:04 PM

Yesssss, my mistake.

Isnt almost every war technically a proxy war though?

Never trust Wikinews and/or Michael Moore.

srt-4 01-09-2007 10:18 PM

well, i don't know much about it at a tactical level. but at a strategic level, i don't believe at all that this is an idle threat. the threat itself is useful, which is why it was leaked, but my belief is that they will certainly back it up.

what they are saying is if the un fails to act (which it will because russia and china will block any meaningful action), and the US fails to act on its own, then they will be forced to take this action. and they will indeed have to. the president of iran has stated his desire to "wipe israel of the map." if you say that and are developing nuclear weapons, israel really has no choice but to act. history has taught israelis that they have to act first in order to ensure their survival.

the big mistake iran is making here is threatening a nuclear power with nuclear annihilation before it has nuclear weapons itself. huge miscalculation.

in reality this is probably the best option. iran can't get nuclear weapons. it would be disastrous. this will probably end up being necessary. however, it won't be good. shi't will definitely hit the fan over there. i can't even begin to predict what all would happen, we would have to see what the situation was at the time. but there will probably be a big surge in power by the islamists that will destabilize the region to a much greater extent. hezbollah will probably renew hostilities with israel (which would destabilize lebanon even more), which will probably lead to hamas doing to same in an attempt to capitalize on the situation rather than out of solidarity with iran.

if iran tries to destabilize the world oil markets as a response, which it probably will, saudi arabia will probably step in to a large extent to minimize that. if iran tries to close the straits of hormuz, like they have threatened, then that will lead to a military conflict with the US.

so it would be very bad, but all the likely scenarios at this point are very bad, and this is probably the best of those.

edit: i'm not sure if i was clear on why i think it would be the best. it would be better than iran getting the bomb for obvious reasons. and it would be better than the US directly attacking because even though we will still have to deal with a lot of negative consequences if israel attacks due to the relationship we have with israel, those consequences won't be as great as they would be if we acted ourselves. we can distance ourselves and condemn the attack, blah, blah, which will help minimize the impact a little. if we acted, we would nearly loose all ability to work with the arabs in the region outside of the gulf states. iraq would be impossible. a solution to the problems with syria would also be impossible.

no. many low intensity conflicts throughout the cold war and post-cold war era have been/are though.

I think that the whole thing has produced some positive results, like the toppling of a totalitarian theocracy.

pixiesfanyo 01-10-2007 09:53 AM

I think arguing about politics on the internet is gayer than going down on your father's dick after he pulled it out of your mother's asshole.

Just sayin'

But it honestly seems like every war is a fight between 2 dogs with superpowers betting on who wins. Its all just one big mesh of violence.

I dislike the band A LOT.

Ethiopia isn't a majority Christian really anymore, they obviously have a very long tradition of Christianity but since about the middle to late middle of the 20th century there has been a drastic upswing in Islam which is why there is so much violence over there.
seriously?
I played fooball for about 7 years (I quit Freshman year). I'm up about 15 pounds from my playing weight but yeah I'm serious.

What's your guys' opinion on the intended 20,000 troop increase to Iraq?

bottlerocket 01-10-2007 03:06 PM

My friend and I already decided that once World War III starts, we're dropping out of college and enjoying the final days of human existence.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 01-10-2007 03:29 PM
