to lunch: i still love wywh (my favourite song by them). and one of the main things is that i can honestly say that every track on the album is good; i'd listen to it. i couldn't say that about san tropez, seamus or pillow winds. the rest of medle is very good though, don't get me wrong.
s'up slack? i'd try out pulse, its a good introduction to their later years, plus its got some good renditions of the old songs or if you felt depressive, you could try the final cut. tough going but worth it |
Hey I finally bought AMLOR. And after the first listen I can safely say I dig it entirely and don't think it deserves quite so much flack. A bit rough around the edges but I think they did well without Roger and it deserves to stand (albiet in the shadow) of it's bigger brother - The Division Bell.
Favourite tracks are probably Signs of Life, On the Turning Away, Yet Another Movie and Dogs of War - which is frankly the effing shiznit. AHM is the only studio album I have left to get. Do I dare?
AHM is much better than AMLOR imo and I think most people here would agree with me. As for Meddle, I feel like Echoes, One of These Days, and Fealess are amazing, a Pillow of Winds is really good and chill, San Tropez is good, and Seamus is just filler. Wish You Were I find every song amazing, so I'd go with that first. Meddle isn't far behind though. |
A Pillow of Winds is probably my favorite track off Meddle. Seamus is interesting from time to time. It's not all that dreadful. :)
s'up slack? i'd try out pulse, its a good introduction to their later years, plus its got some good renditions of the old songs
Pulse is the new DVD, right? Yeah I've been meaning to get that.
|
its a cd aswell. i haven't actually seen the dvd (no money), but the cd's very good
when they performed seamus live (on the live at pompei film) they had a fill in dog. it wasn't much better to be honest |
you mean madomiselle nobs? seamus is better, but nobs is still alright. seamus rocks
|
thats it. the name slipped my mind. there was a story about seamus belonging to someone from some other band from the era, but i can't remember who. but he'd trained the dog to bark when music was played. i still don't like the song though.
|
the story is David Gilmour was watching some friends dog who was seamus. the person taught the dog to sing anytime it heard music playing, so i guess gilmour had the idea to write a song and have seamus sing in the background. As for the song itself, you have to give it time to sink in. it's enjoyable once you listen to it a little more
|
oops double post :smash:
|
i'm sure it went something like he had a friend (from some other band - i can't remember who) who had trained the dog to bark when music was played. the owner then went away on tour, leaving the dog with gilmour. when trying to record/playing music in his house, dave noticed the god barked. so the band decided to put it on the record. that's why there's voices audible in the background, talking about/to the dog. the band were recored with the dog playing, and the lyrics were overdubbed at a later date.
i got this from nick mason's book (very good) but i don't have it here with me. if somone has it, they can verify the story; wiki's got nothing really helpful and as much as i listen to it, it doesn't grow on me. i'd like it to, but it doesn't |
something like that
anyways..................does anyone have the live wall cd? |
I do. It's pretty good. Especially Mother. I actually like it better than The Wall.
|
'is there anybody out there?'? its very good, i prefer it to the original recording; its got a few new songs and the atmosphere adds something to it.
but there's some bootlegs i've got as well; qualities not as good and they're pretty much the same so, in conclusion: buy is there anybody out there? - better than the original |
I want to get Mason's book. I read Saucerful of Secrets and it was great.
Since I've seen a bunch of lists, I'm gonna do one, too. 1. Animals 2. PATGOD 3. Dark Side of the Moon 4. The Wall 5. The Final Cut 6. Meddle 7. A Saucerful of Secrets/ Wish You Were Here 8. A Momentary Lapse of Reason edit: I don't have the wall live, but Waters in Berlin I do have. It wasn't bad, but the way some of the other artists played and sang the songs messed with my head |
i think it's better than the regular wall. what shall we do now? kicks arse, and the last few bricks is really good as well. the only dissapointment on there for me is the trial. but i can understand, that is hard to do in concert.
|
Ooh, can I do a list?
1. Saucerful of Secrets 2. Meddle 3. Piper 4. Ummagumma 5. DSotM |
laser show this friday and im gonna try and go! :]
|
I would have to say don't bother unless you have a fat sack of mushrooms or an even fatter sack of weed.
|
Haha that would be sweet on mushrooms. I'd be too afraid to actually go into a theater on mushrooms though...
|
I did mushrooms last night, it was sweet...
I staired at a popcorn ceiling for two hours thinking it was a big bowl of oatmeal that was being mixed around... |
I want to get Mason's book
It's a real good read. Every major studio album basically has an entire chapter dedicated to it, and Mason's a great story-teller with plenty of wit. |
I just finished watching Pink Floyd & The Syd Barret story, it was quite good.
|
Yeah I thought so too. Seeing how he lived was a bit of an eye-opener. And when he was painting his room, he accidentally painted himself into the corner

You are right though, it gets more crap than it deserves.
AHM is much better than AMLOR imo and I think most people here would agree with me.
Meh, they are 2 entirely different sounds though. |
^ agreed about AHM and AMLOR
|
i prefer the live versions of the later songs. something about them changes, they become more alive (cheesy i know). but there's a different energy.
the studio versions of high hopes and sorrow and especially learning to fly and coming back to life are pretty dead next to the pulse versions. |
Yes, Is There Anybody Out There is phenomenal. For about 3 years it was the only version of The Wall that I had. I loved hearing Outside the Wall in one piece.
the studio versions of high hopes and sorrow and especially learning to fly and coming back to life are pretty dead next to the pulse versions.
I've got to get a new copy of Pulse, my old disk is just pathetic. |
hey anybody seen austrailian pink floyd?
they are coming through my town and i've heard they are pretty good. worth seeing? |
I'm thinking of getting pulse or Is there anybody out there? which one is better.
|
I want to get Pulse.
Lucky Christmas is near :D |
hey anybody seen austrailian pink floyd?
they are coming through my town and i've heard they are pretty good. worth seeing?
Absolutely. I've seen them twice, and when they do their U.K tour this year, I no doubt will again. They are an awesome tribute band, best I've ever seen in the way of tribute bands anyway. The lighting show and general sound of the band is extremely accurate of Floyd. |
thanks a lot, i think i'm gonna see if i can snag tickets in that case
|
just got the pulse dvd
|
hey anybody seen austrailian pink floyd?
they are coming through my town and i've heard they are pretty good. worth seeing?
I caught them on tv once. They were great; very accurate. |
I've never heard them, but i've heard about them. lots of good things, bery professional apparently, good performance and good light show etc
I'm thinking of getting pulse or Is there anybody out there? which one is better
i'd go for is there anybody out there. brings a whole new perspective to the wall. whilst pulse does this for the later tracks, there's more depth to the wall. go for the second one; its great |
The Australian Pink Floyd thing is very good. You can probably watch a little on youtube.
|
I really want to go see them.
|
I bought Ummagumma
RNR, if you are looking for any Pink Floyd albums, HMV has there monster sale on right now, and have like all their Pink Floyd stuff on for 50% off. In Market Mall at least. |
Ummagumma is my favorite, enjoy.
|

HMV is a music store, and yeah, they seem to have a habit of marking down Pink Floyd albums at a moment's notice. Good news for me, when I was still collecting them. The Wall for 20 bucks Australian.
