I'm still not sure about the difference between funeral and regular doom
Funeral doom = heavy, SLOOOOW, often crushing in its atmosphere, utterly depressing

Doom = (as Jondur says) anything that stems somewhat from the Sabbath circle of influence.

Daven 01-31-2007 04:04 PM

I really need to be in a mood to listen Trad doom, i can listen to FD almost at any time though.

Grívf - Midgaard

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:06 PM

Oh so Doom could be something with a "moderate" tempo, just heavy at the same time? I thought all of it was sloooooooow.
Oh so Doom could be something with a "moderate" tempo, just heavy at the same time? I thought all of it was sloooooooow.
A lot of it is rather slow, but not all doom is time impeding. Cathedral have more midpaced songs than anything and they're some of the pioneers of the doom genre.

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:20 PM

So could Sleep or Electric Wizard be considered doom? Or just stoner metal?

I love listening to all this stuff, but I'm lost on all the genres :p

RetiredAt21 01-31-2007 04:35 PM

I love Electric Funeral.

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:38 PM

Yeah, I really like Dopethrone. The sludgy, fuzzy bass is the coolest thing ever.

pixiesfanyo 01-31-2007 08:17 PM

Electric Wizard is pretty cool.

pate 01-31-2007 08:18 PM

Bus, you mean Electric Wizard, an ownage band.

pixiesfanyo 01-31-2007 08:50 PM

He's talking about an album, you faggot.

pate 01-31-2007 09:17 PM

...an album by Electric Wizard, not Electric Funeral you horrible poster.

pixiesfanyo 01-31-2007 09:19 PM

whatever. i just hate your avatar.

magicbus 01-31-2007 10:02 PM

Whoops. Yeah, I meant Electric Wizard, but I was thinking about Funeral Doom at the time.

jva 02-02-2007 04:34 AM

I just finished listening to Pink by Boris, that was really a good album! People told it was more a drone album, so I prepared the worse, but I liked it very much. Especially the more rock 'n roll kind of songs, those were a nice for a change.

rhcp pman 02-02-2007 06:49 AM

Wreck of the Hesperus is awesome.

Iron Bars 02-02-2007 07:27 AM

I was listening to the Ethereal Mirror by Cathedral and noticed this was my only album by them. Any recomendations on what to get next?

the2stranger 02-02-2007 08:18 AM

There isn't much drone in Pink at all. Boris change their sound around a lot.

AlienEater 02-02-2007 11:47 AM

Pink is one of their weakest in my opinion

Bartender 02-02-2007 11:49 AM

It's my least favourite of the pathetic three I've managed to get so far, to be sure.

pixiesfanyo 02-02-2007 12:40 PM

Boris is pretty overrated in my honest opinion.

Shattered_Future 02-02-2007 12:51 PM
Whoops. Yeah, I meant Electric Wizard, but I was thinking about Funeral Doom at the time.

Ok, what Electric Wizard should I check out after Dopethrone?
you should be able to get a double CD with self-titled and Come my fanatics on it

I went in HMV and they had both seperate albums then the double CD for cheaper than either of them

Great stuff, I love them both, but Dopethrone just annilihates everything...everything :)

Kyle 02-03-2007 09:32 AM

Hey John, Just thought i'd give you a heads up that we're going to be doing a local music pull-out at Quench (the cardiff student magazine).

I'm going to be doing some mini articles on the Screamin Eagles and Albatross, whilst the Buffallo Kings are gonna be covered and the editor will probably write a larger article on Bomb the Sun. If it interests you at all I might be able to get a copy sent out to you or something.
