The mic we used for the bass drum is definitely as bad as yours haha, and that's what i noticed the great difference in, for reference we got 10 of them off ebay.....for $2.95 O_o We used 2 others, one for guitars/bass guitar and one for overhead drums because we only have 3 inputs, and those 2 weren't so bad but still pretty awful compared to what's out there.
Nah we aren't gigging at the moment, we were supposed to be doing this charity thing in summer but i'm not sure whether it's going to happen or not. The drummer stayed the night but other guitarist was busy on thurs so left, and the bassist went home and came back on thurs. 80 hours!!! wow I'd imagine you get alot of practice/performance time with 4 bands going? How about you are you guys gigging? |
Haha, bargain!
Or rip-off. Maybe. Gotta love inbuilt laptop mics though. Mmm yeah, I came home and didn't realise I fell asleep the moment I sat down, mid-sentence. I wake up and my sister walks in the door. I was like "waaiiiiit, weren't you just standing in front of me?" "That was a few hours ago Trea" That sounds alright if it happens. I got invited to do a couple of solo acts next Sunday for a charity gig :). What's it for? Have you started thinking about a set yet or are you going to leave that until you know whether or not you're doing it? Oh we definitely gig, haha. AYB mainly. We were meant to be playing around somewhere as part of the official grand final celebrations today but it didn't work out. There are a few christmas gigs we've got lined up, there's something for the Melbourne Cup, an open rehearsal (not that that really counts haha) we'll do something for Australia Day as usual (actually I think we're doing a country tour up around Swan Hill, Charlton and other places nobody's heard of), and some corporate gig. And the NZ tour next Sept, but that's ages away and I don't think I'll go because it's right near exams :(. The other two are mostly smaller scale concerts and sessions every so often. We were doing a bit with D of S - just parties and school stuff most of the time, but yeah, definitely not at the moment. |
Haha i've come home from parties often and just fallen asleep while walking to my room landing on the couch, woke up a few hours later and i'm wondering what day it is hahah.
The charity gig is for a friend of my mums whose daughter has cystic fibrosis he was going to throw this thing to raise money for her but i haven't heard anything in a while. Nah we haven't decided on a set yet, hopefully if it happens we'll have some stuff finished and written by then and some new covers learnt well as the stuff we know well right now is starting to get a bit repetitive. You sound awful busy, what do you play in each of those bands? |
I'm usually on such a high when I get home from parties that I manage to make it to my room, or at least fall asleep in the bathroom while brushing my teeth .
Alright cool. It'd be good if that works out for ya. Even the free gigs are awesome fun. Trombone in all of them except for D of S which is guitar. It was crazy around March with the Games and stuff though. I think for about 2 months there we had 1 or 2 big or late gigs every week plus the rehearsals. Not that I was complaining of course :D. |
Awesome i can't wait to start gigging but i think we really need to just get tighter, write some original stuff and learn to work off each other better first..i think we're doing quite well though for how long we've been playing/how often we practice.
|
How are things with that, man? You going okay with it all?
Getting there. I think her parents are still getting a shock that their daughter fell pregnant to a 20 year old rock musician. With all hope I'll be moving to Melbourne sooner rather than later, I just have to make sure the clubs and pubs down there are will give me enough work, so I won't have to travel from Melbourne to Ballarat for anything but band sh!t. Then there's Centerlink and all that jazz. |
Hope it all works out for you man. I'm sure there'll be work for you down here - there are enough gigs going on. Do you do anything else on the side as well?
|
Not really, I stick to what I'm good at :thumb:
|
you guys could get music-located!
There's an interesting website out there that allows you - as a musician - to locate yourself in a map so that other musicians can contact you nearby to jam, complete a band, contract you, etc:
http://www.musiclocated.com Give it a try! |
Fair enough bro.
So, Chris... sounds like you're having a lot of fun and love around the forums lately. I know you didn't mean it :). Late edit: so this morning one of our sax players was telling me about this guy playing a flute with a sax mouthpiece taped to the top... hehe, check it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M_OWP5QP4Q |
It's okay Trea.
It's only a couple of users trying to create trouble. And all us mods know that. I got the design back yesterday for next years Youth week material. It looks really tight. I wish i could design that good. http://www.dropbear.net/files/NYW_Concept.pdf And OMG did you see that I actually posted a recording!! |
I did as a matter of fact. You have to jump on these rare opportunities you know :p.
Nah, THCP's are nice, I like em :). It was good. If you're looking for suggestions, using a metronome a bit more might help with cleaning up the timing in a few small spots, but I'm not going to preach ya. Just if you were interested. Mmm, Maton <3'ing. Guitar on the main page, hell yeah! Yeah me too, it looks great. |
I always end up rushing the pieces that I play anyway.
So if I was playing against a metronome, that fact that I do speed up and rush things would just be more noticeable. :) |
No worries mate. If you stick at it with the nome you won't rush them as much any more. That said, my timing's mostly fine but for some reason I get nervous as when I record for sending purposes and do exactly what you do because of that.
Only if you're going for perfection man. Most people wouldn't even notice. Btw, how's your acoustic group going if it's still happening? Did Manifest break up? This weather's got me feeling like it's near Aust. Day, but it's nowhere near! Oh the pain. |
I've had no luck with the band situation lately.
Everything has just stopped. I wanted to start jamming with a girl at work who I recently found out also plays guitar. But it's just finding a time that we all have available that's hard at the moment. I went over to the rentals earlier today for a BBQ lunch. It's perfect BBQ days. But it's going to be a hot summer, this one. |
Aww that's a shame.
Mmm, I had a BBQ too - free too which is always a bonus. We had an open rehearsal with ayb, so they shouted lunch. Yah, it's kind of scary actually. Conditions haven't been so dry since 30 something years ago - which is when Ash Wednesday was. So we're all madly doing an hour a day of getting rid of blackberries and dry undergrowth and burning off around our place at the moment (we've got 8 acres of bush so we sort of have to). Those blackberries are crazy if they catch on fire. With the right (or wrong) conditions they can apparently explode with about 1000C heat. |
Hi all
I 'm new here, just joined yesturnight. I'm starting a little side recording project, a big drastic difference from death metal band I'm working with right now, well anyways... I'm wanting to start a music project and I 'm looking for a female vocalist to exchange music ideas over the net, I have a drums machiine and recording equipment, and I can make the music, I was thinking a style Smashing Pumpkis style meets Medicine. Anyone ? Its just an idea.

NSW is bloooooooooooody hot, 37˚C today in Sydney. Bundaberg is also quite hot but nothing like this heatwave. Snorkelling, pool, fishing, bodysurfing, checking out some sugarcane, watching sugarcane fires in progress, driving with my dad....checking out yet more sugarcane. I had a good time :) What's everyone been up to?
Uhh yeah...I'm back. |
nowai, rly? 4srs?
Hi Chammy btw. Welcome back mate. Glad to hear you had a good time. Far out, has it really been 2 weeks already? I'm right about to start a trial maths exam (too early, argh) then head into Melb for the correction session. I'll probably hang around in there for a while, have lunch, then come home for heaps of music. It was just the usual for me, other than stuffing up my technical assessment (IMO), and making a Captain Feathersword costume for next weekend. Hooray for fancy dress parties XD. |
I totally have a band now! We can totally pwn ghostbusters and tomorrow we're going to see if we can get together the monkey island theme.
Serious points to people who know what that is! (hum it with me) |
Haha well done Auberge.
Yeah trea it sure went quick aye...too quick for my liking . How'd you go with the trial? I got my maths yearly mark back today...68.5%..which is pretty slack but it was just one area in trig that i screwed up with, so overall not too bad for a test that doesn't matter at all :p. I also got physics back (41/75...average was 48) and english (18/25...yay)...how are your exams looking right now? Think you'll go well? First day of year 12...*hyperventilates* scary stuff....but now i can use the microwave/sandwich toast foccacia thing in the senior study room :) Hows everything else everyone? |
Good, thanks for asking... :)
You guys remember that beautiful concept artwork that I posted an example of for next years youthweek? Well, it has been sh!tcanned. The 'man in the top office' didn't like it, and instead wanted to instead portray a differnt image to Australias youth. It's such a shame. We'll be spending more to produce substandard artwork in a rush, just because of the opinions of one old bloke who is clearly not in the target demographic of the end product. Go figure. |
Woa-hoa, awesome Chris2. Or 1. You two can fightover who's who.
What instruments you got in it? As for the other Chris, dude that sucks bad! :( What kind of "image" does he want? Jeez, that one would appeal to so many people. This exam was an extension thing anyway so it was quite hard. Not that I had time to study for it or even make a cheat sheet for it, so considering that I think I went quite well lol. I don't have a mark for it yet. Haha, I hate it when people say trig. I always turn around and think they're talking to me because one of my best mates used to call me trigs for a few years back there. And trio! There was a piece we were playing for AYB featuring us 8 trombones (:D!) and the bit from the trio til the coda always stuffed us up. We kept going over it in our sectional and I'd always think they were saying Trea until the o slipped in. Good stuff with your exams :). I've been a bit stressed about the ones that matter (my yr 12 and AMEB), which are in about 2 weeks. Having a SAC every day this week doesn't help. I should be right though - I've been studying all along. Which reminds me that I should be getting off here right about now... Ooo, foccacia machine. Why would anyone ever leave your school? |
He wants an image portraying people with disabilites, and people doing community service.
So instead of a kid rocking out with a guitar, we may instead see a kid in a wheelchair raking up leaves. Who knows? But the ads are being filmed this weekend so something should be figured out soon, we'd hope. |
Haha, damn
Or maybe a kid in a turbo wheelchair air-guitaring on a vacuum cleaner...? (no offence to the disabled btw, in case it affects anyone else here - my sister's a bit that way so I really don't mean it badly) |
But people with disabilities would want to have fun as well, right.
I would've thought that everyone would want to be treated with equality, and not singled out and specifically targeted by some old bloke who's pushing his own political wheelbarrow? *shrugs* but that's work... In more exciting news: http://www.dropbear.net/files/DSCF0198.jpg 10 more sleeps. |
Woa-hoa, awesome Chris2. Or 1. You two can fightover who's who.
What instruments you got in it?
You can call me moaner, or chris 2, or whatever. I'm hardly here anyway so far drums + bass + me guitaring, and we're adding another gutiarist we're covering it proper like, rather than just playing the song. |
Hey guys i haven't been here the past few days...been busy getting everything set for school :(
But my cousin came down here from Brisbane where he lives and brought Cubase SX3 with him for me (hehe he and some friends have this big recording studio because hes friends with a quite popular band there)...wooooooooow it is soooooooo cool, i was messing around with it for aaaages its so awesome how much you can do with it. I put this song that me and a friend had previously recorded using his keyboard my guitar and his wah pedal wired backwards to record this improvised thing we did (using the wah pedal to make dolphiny noises...which we put through my effects pedal to give it some variety). One section in particular i had been wanting to make it pan from left speaker to right speaker while it plays (the wah pedal track) and it's heaps easier than i thought it would be with Cubase. Anywho thats how i spent my spare time this week :). I'm jamming with drummer and bassist tomorrow but the other guitarist is holidaying in Vietnam until sunday (lucky bastard). Oh and Chris, i didn't see the artwork but that sounds like a shame :( He sounds like my friends boss (friend does preso at coles -restacking...making it look pretty) and his new boss wants them to change the way they do it...which will leave everything looking unsorted and inconvenient for customers, changing something that works for absolutely nothing. |
Schweet Chris. Let us know if/when you get some recordings together.
Stonefest - heck yeah! Mmm Cubase, wish I had it. Haha today was a combination of 3 of my mates' birthdays plus the year 12's muckup day, so everyone was insane. It was so hillarious. The year 12s looked sweet... someone came as an Extra box (it's a type of gum), there were some people as stubbies of VB and Carlton Draught, Darth Vader, Super Ted, Ninja Turtles, this guy called Mario came as Mario, and some girls were dressed up as dragsters (girls dressed up as guys dressed up as girls lol). I'm so pumped for this party tomorrow. My costume looks hot as, in a Captain Feathersword kinda way. Hehe. |
Haha that sounds awesome Trea, my schools muckup days are rewarded with flour bombs (flour + water in a water bomb), vasoline on hand rails and last year....a guy running naked through the school.
|
Nice. These guys got a jumping castle.
Our school was pretty "rah rah rah" about muckup day - anyone doing stuff like that would've been expelled. We're at like a senior campus so it's just us yr 11s and 12s, so there wasn't much insentive to terrorise the year 8s seeing they aren't there, haha. I heard some guys from another school in the city were planning to put a cow in the gym.... |
Hahaha....that would be soo funny. Almost every year the year 12s will put vasoline on the underside of all the handrails in the school and then when people grab them they have it smeared all over...it's funny to watch...not so funny to forget it's there. Has your year got any plans?
|
That happens all the time, but not on muckup day, haha.
Nah not yet. Other than thinking about what they'll come dressed up as, which was a point of conversation in one VERY effective English lesson :shifty:. One of my friends comes out with "I'm going to come as a bus" and another said "hey I can wear my popcorn box!" (don't ask, very strange stuff from band camp/parties haha), then decided she would come as a piece of popcorn instead. They're a worry sometimes. How bout you? |
I got a Tax Bill today.
I'm used to getting Tax Returns. But not this year. Instead a bill saying I owe ~$550 Bastards. |
Haha popcorn, um yeah nothing planned as of yet, this years year 12 wanted to all chip in to get a skywriter to write "Mr Campbell is a pear" or something along those lines, in the sky above our school (Mr Campbell is the deputy who happens to be pearshaped and a very odd guy.
I think everyone has been more preoccupied organising schoolies, i'm going to bali with my group of friends...i hope so anyhow...we cant get flight specifics until like january so hopefully it wont fall through or we won't really be able to organise much else. Are you doing anything? That sucks Chris, what was it for? |
Don't take a body board.
Nah that would be absolutely awesome. If I could, I'd be going to Tahiti or somewhere. Bali will be sweet as. Hope it goes ahead. Haha, pear-shaped man... interesting. We've had a few ideas but nothing confirmed yet. I guess we'll think about it more when the holidays start. Doubt we'll be going overseas though, seeing quite a few of us are saving for tours anyway. Oh hey, speaking of that, AYB might be going to Bejing in 2008 to perform for the olympics :D. Owch about the tax man. |
Haha yeah i'll def be careful about my bags. We were originally thinking of Gold Coast but for not much extra we can go bali so we jumped ship.
 Beijing!! Hoooly crap thats awesome, how'd you come across that opportunity? |
Good as. I think it'd probably be better of there actually. GC gets a bit crowded out.
Last year we went over there (I wasn't in it then) for an international festival, and we were the only ones to get invited to play on the Great Wall. The guys that organise it also organise the olympics entertainment (score!). We were invited over again this year but we were supposed to be going to the States at the same time. Then we changed that til next year, getting invited to Germany at the same time (by people we met in China), but now we're going to NZ instead so that we can save up for a massive tour for Bejing, or if that falls through for some reason, our States tour. Haha, complicated stuff right there. |
Wow you're sure kept busy :amaze: Perhaps we'll see you performing in Beijing two years from now then, haha thatd be cool.:p
|
okay. I'm back from the dead again. Can someone give me an update?
