eh?

All the instruments are used on both of the Shine on you crazy Diamonds. Dogs brilliantly fuses the guitar and keyboard. I would say the instruments dropped off from "The Wall" to "MLOR".
Your right about Shine on you crazy Diamond, but for a cd that has three 10 min+ songs on it Gilmour dominated a lot (not that thats a bad thing), their other 10 min+ songs all the instruments play their own part.

Actually the more I think about it, the more I realize that Wright dominated that album.

He was the backbone of SOYCD
He pwnz Welcome to the Machine
He has amazing synths on Have a Cigar

But he is missing on WYWH.

Yea I had to think again about my statment because I didn't think of WYWH for some reason. In many ways that was the end of his huge role in the band...but what a way to go out.

TerryThorne 02-22-2005 10:35 PM
yeah, i don't see whats so good about it too, people are always talking about the guitar solo on Time and other things from the album but their stuff off of Meddle or Animals is a lot more complex. i think all it is is DSotM is so calm and relaxing, compared to their other stuff, a great album to mellow out to or other things.
I really like the songs on it. Time is my favorite song of all time...

Something for you fans. A Tattoo I plan on getting, symbolising my girlfriend and I. You see, we both love Pink Floyd, so I worked in no less that 5 Floyd references. Rep to anyone who can pick all 5.

I found the last one...

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

pigonthewing82 02-23-2005 02:08 PM

I always find their albums (more their latter stuff) that the ending song ties in with the begining song and it just creates such a nice such a nice loop (the first 14 seconds of In The Flesh and Outside the Wall, or Pig on the Wing 1 and 2), its like reading a book.

Purple Floyd 02-23-2005 05:52 PM

Yeah In the flesh has a good intro...

I just saw Pink Floyd Live In Pompeii The Director's Cut dvd yesterday. I thought it was interesting, but I suspect it influenced my strange dream last night..

I had such a new respect for them after seeing that DVD because it was my first time seeing them live, and hearing stuff off meddle. :thumb:

Shazzam 02-23-2005 08:08 PM

Live in Pompei is great, but I don't like the directors cut as much.

I've only seen the directors cut, how is it different?

Shazzam 02-23-2005 08:24 PM

The original just captures the feel of the setting better... There's also some different camera angles.

It's like comparing a CD to Vinyl.

Gotcha :thumb: Speaking of Live in Pomipi(sp?) I have a 2 disk bootleg live cd, and one of them is live songs from the dvd. Its nice to be able to carry it around with me.

Hey pigonthewing82, what do you think the 5th reference is?

So far there's:

WYWH word banner
DSOTM heart
WYWH handshake pose
PF on the banner

The fifth one would be the sun representing the song 'Set the Controls for the heart of the Sun' wouldn't it?

Well the reference I saw more was I see a man sitting in the middle of the Wish You Were Here banner that kinda looks like the main character in The Wall sitting in a chair (whitch he does for half the movie).

just noticed that

pigonthewing82 02-23-2005 08:49 PM

Since it took almost everybody who regularly post on this site to figure it out (if thats right) who gets the rep lol?

Shazzam 02-23-2005 08:50 PM

everyone maybe?

pigonthewing82 02-23-2005 09:09 PM

That would be awsome, I would love to see how the tatoo came out.

Whenever I watch the DVD, I watch the unedited version

pigonthewing82 02-23-2005 09:16 PM

To truly take in how good Pink Floyd is live I recommend Live in Pompii along with the video anthology volumes 1-3 whitch you can find on ebay. Trust me you will all be glad you did. As for cds I recommend Ummagumma and Is There Anybody Out There, and Pulse for those post Roger fans.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-23-2005 09:50 PM

Man. I went to Borders 3 days ago, and I couldn't find a single thing I wanted to buy. I ended up buying Ænima by Tool, which was a very good purchase, but it was the 7th item down on my list of things I wanted to buy.

1. PATGOD
2. Live at Pompeii
3. Stupid Dream-Porcupine Tree
4. Opeth- Blackwater Park
5. The Doors- Anything cheap
6. Ænima - Tool

What a crappy store. :upset:

Anyways, I really need to get Live at Pompeii. I have heard amazing things about it.

sixxbassist90 02-23-2005 10:05 PM
