I agree, and ever since HCDR I really do not enjoy the punk oriented attitude both musically and lyrically that the band is taking.
Yeah, I don't really like the punk-ish road they are taking either.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 05:47 PM

It seems the more punk they put in the less power metal they put in. I'd hesitate to call HCDR power/speed metal, I think it's closer to the american new thrash scene like LoG or Shadows Fall.

TSASI

Nice job on Powerchord Rock's avatar. It looks sweet. How are the other ones comin(not to pressure you)

I know, imo the older albums are so much better. HCDR is ok but it's missing somthing and I'm afraid the new album is going to be missing even more. I hope Children of Bodom don't compleatly lose their sound.

Dude, I made that. I must have missed somthing. Was TSASI supossed to be making avatars for people or somthing?

IheartSP 07-18-2005 05:55 PM

Yeah I hope they go back to their powermetal roots sometime. Not to say HCDR and the new album aren't good, it's just not good compared to other Bodom.

Yeah, I'll definatly be somewhat dissapointed if they don't.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:38 PM

Not to degrade from Children of Bodom but I liked when they were Inearthed. I have great respect for the sound of SW through HCDR, but I did notice that they were going down hill (slowly) I hope Are You Dead Yet? doesn't turn out to be sh*t.

Shadows 07-18-2005 06:41 PM

I wouldn't say that Children of Bodom's new style is remotely punk. More like the heavier American metal. But they still have many of the same keyboard elements and guitar riffs they used to, so I'm not too disappointed. HCDR was basically their old style, but with actual riffage instead od palm muted power chords.

But songs like Knuckleduster, on the other hand, I'm not so happy about.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:41 PM

There are always people that trash a band because of a few dud albums but **** can Alexi play the guitar. I enjoy that they use harmonies between the other guitar and keyboard. Speaking of which if you enjoy the keyboard you should check out Janne's Band Warmen.

Shadows 07-18-2005 06:42 PM

I've been meaning to get some Warmen. The description on metal-archives makes it sound like an excellent project.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:43 PM

I didn't really notice a change between previous member Alexander to Roope. They made a good choice in asking him to join.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:46 PM

I do not think that Alexi and Kim's band Sinergy is that great, but then again I haven't heard many songs.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 06:47 PM

Warmen sounds like Stratovarius without vocals and way too many keyboard solos.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:48 PM

Another thing Alexi has to work on his vocals...they have gotten better since Something Wild ,but it still needs more improvement, I will be amazed if he can go from the screaming rasp to a Dimmu Borgir sounding vocal harmony. I hope that makes sense.

Shattered_Future 07-18-2005 06:49 PM

The lead from Dimmu Borgir is just as bad as Alexi's voice...

Unless you mean their clean singer.

Shadows 07-18-2005 06:49 PM

Something Wild vocals > any vocals after that

His screaming now sucks. I liked it way back in the day when he had a black metal type scream.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:50 PM

There clean singer

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:52 PM
There clean singer
For instance the singing part in Prodigies of a great apocalypse

Shattered_Future 07-18-2005 06:52 PM
There clean singer
No offense, but that's THE stupidest idea I've ever heard.

Bodom with clean vocals would be a disaster. Their vocals (however bad they may be) are part of what makes the band who they are.

Shadows 07-18-2005 06:54 PM

I always found that the most (and only) appealing thing about Dimmu is the vocals. Shagrath, while he may not have the greatest voice, just seems very charismatic to me. This coming from a guy who hated Dimmu with a passion until I discovered I liked one of thier albums a few months ago.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:55 PM

Maybe I Alexi just played lead and they found a new singer someone between David Dramer (disturbed) and Jesse Leech(killswitch engaged)...I don't know it's just a thought.

Shattered_Future 07-18-2005 06:55 PM

I love the band's image.

They try WAY too hard, and look comical doing it.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:56 PM

A mix of Death Metal rasping and some clean vocals

IheartSP 07-18-2005 06:56 PM

are you just naming random singers, and are you crazy?

Bodom only fits with their vocals end of story.

Shadows 07-18-2005 06:57 PM
Maybe I Alexi just played lead and they found a new singer someone between David Dramer (disturbed) and Jesse Leech(killswitch engaged)...I don't know it's just a thought.
Are you crazy???? Not only would those vocals not work at all with Bodom's sound, but Alexi IS CoB. Without him screaming the band just wouldn't be CoB anymore (which is a big part of why Synergy isn't the greatest band). Maybe if they worked in some death metal vocals - that might be cool.

Bodom's comically aggressive image is the other half of the band.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 06:58 PM

I love the rasping, but it gets tiring listening to a song 10 times to hear what the f**k he's saying

That's why you have sites like darklyrics.com ;)

If you prefer music where you can tell what the vocalist is saying, then I don't think metal is your genre.

JacksonRR3guy 07-18-2005 07:00 PM

Ok forget anything I have said...

Here's your basic Bodom lyrics breakdown:

1. It always involves either the Bodom murders, death, pain, or something pointy

2. Expect to hear curses in the song. (these you can always pick out)

There you go. Now you're all set. :thumb:

EDIT: He could always try traditional power metal...
