are the WUHAN s series crashes and hi hats any good???

Seafroggys 10-06-2005 12:03 AM
also, im looking to buy a new ride right now and a china. i was looking at the Sabian AA Medium Ride, and the Sabian ProSonix 18'' chinesse. you guys have any recomendations or reviews on these cymbals? also, right now i have a kit that is part Zildjian, part Paiste and this would make it part Sabian, is there any drawbacks to mixing brands?
Nothing at all. Currently I have Zildjian, Sabian, Istanbul, and WUhan in my setup, and I love it. Of course my setup isn't finalized, I still need to replace a couple of cymbals and get new ones, but as long as my tastes don't change, i'll eventually have Zilj, Sab, Istanbul, Wuhan, and Paiste in my setup.

Questions about Z Custom Mastersound hats and A Custom Mastersound hats:

1. Which are more versatile?
2. Which would fit better with an A Custom Ride (20"), a Z Custom Rock Crash (16"), and a Z Custom Medium Crash (17")?

Right now I'm leaning towards the A's (maybe even New Beats, probably not though), but what's your opinion?

go with new beats. they are the most versatile but if not then get the A customs.

3_times_round 10-06-2005 02:39 PM

A customs are always more versatile. Z customs are designed for heavy playing.

For a crash I would say the 16" Rock crash. That 17" Medium will be VERY loud. Medium is the 2nd heaviest Z custom (I think).

Try some A Custom Mediums if you are looking for a hevay sound. I tried a 17" AC Medium today and it was fantastic. Warm and bright, but slightly darker than regualr AC's.

Maybe for hats try an A/Z combination? A Custom Top, Z custom mastersound bottom? Would be heavy and cutting, but failry versatile.

Edit: /\ New beats definetly are the most versatile.

Anything else this man has said is pointless. go with his first sentance

I'm looking for a new ride, a crash cymbal, and possibly new hats. currently I only have sabian B8 14" hats, and a sabian B8 18" crash/ride cymbal (which I hate with a ****ing passion). I'll be playing rock/punk so for a crash I'm looking for something that can cut through but also decays pretty fast. for ride, I'm for the ride I want something that cuts through as well, but thats not deafening. also, I'd like the ride to be fairly washy. a lot of the stuff I listen to, it sounds like they're using a crash cymbal instead of a ride for the rhythm sections in the songs. as for hats, something thats darker, and decent stick definition.

Thanks, I actually have both of those crashes, I was asking which hats would go well with them.

I tried them all out at the local music store, I think I'm going to go with the New Beats.

yeah, I can only afford one crash at the moment. would the 16 work? I've been listening to the sound clips on the site (I know they arn't great for what the cymbal actually sounds like but its all I've got for the moment) I'm likin the sound of the 16

/goes back listen to more clips

withering_rose 10-06-2005 05:58 PM

I'm liking the 17 a custom medium crash
still lookin for a ride and hats. for the ride I want something thats very crashable for rhythm and not to pingy. for hats, something that'll be good for rock/punk/hardcore and jazz

I like the zildjian 17 a custom medium crash, but I want something with a bit more bite, more attack. I also like the sabian 16 AA medium crash, but again, I want something with more bite to it.
still lookin for ride and hat suggestions

I think black and white is putting it mildly......

Anyway, on a more serious note, you want versatility in that case. And when you want versatility, there is one hat that is god among bronze: New Beats :thumb:

lol you and your new beats. youre right though.

Motleyguy 10-07-2005 01:31 PM

I'm looking for some light hats, with a nice sizzle, but strong enough to stand up to some hard playing and able to be heard over 2 guitars and a bass in a live unmiced setting.

Oh and preferably in a medium price range

bobby__johnny 10-07-2005 01:31 PM

AAX Stage Hats for a lighter, yet equally versatile pairing

I'm not going to be playing much jazz, it actually won't really have to sound good for jazz, the only time I'll be playing jazz is when my drum instructor gives a jazz peice for me to practice

little_drummer_boy1 10-08-2005 04:20 PM

when did zildjian stop making the z custom rock crashes that have star shaped punches rather than the round or circular ones they have today and had a large z printed on the opposite end of the cymbal insted of a small z next to the writing (z custom what ever) and where can i find the star shaped ones described above

3_times_round 10-08-2005 04:22 PM

E-bay. 1991 came to my head at first, but then was when they stopped making Z's and strated witn Z customs (I think.)

I'm pretty sure they still make ZC rock crashes, but the star hammering was stopped in 1991 (again, I'm not sure).

little_drummer_boy1 10-08-2005 04:24 PM

what would be the next best thing to the old z customs (i think they sound different but i may be wrong)

3_times_round 10-08-2005 04:28 PM

AA-Metal-X...??? Some one who knows more than me will give a better option.

In my opinion you should try out A customs. Much better cymbals.

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-08-2005 04:54 PM

an A Custom Projection Crash is a good one to go for if you want somethign like a rock crash. Same volume and projection as a rock crash, but you dont have to beat the **** out of it to get any sort of decent sound. its a much more lively cymbal as well, I guess you could describe it as being more "musical" than the rock crash.

You could also check out an A Custom Medium crash, but I've never had the chance to test one out so I would have no idea how it sounds.

3_times_round 10-08-2005 05:21 PM

Mediums are better than projections. They are heavier, but are more musical. Projections have a bad reputation for being the worst of the A customs.

I tried a 17" Medium the other day and it was fabolous. I'm getting a 19" in the next few weeks (if in stock when I go to America).

bobby__johnny 10-08-2005 05:49 PM

AA Medium and Rock. best heavy and medium cymbals....period (for bright tones anyway)

n!ch 10-11-2005 02:15 PM

I'm Thinking of getting A custom Projection cymbals (20 ride, 18 crash, 18(non projection), and A custom 13 mastersound hats.
I currently have ZXT Titaniums... I know i know,.,,
But i play punk(blink) and i also have a grindcore band...
Any suggestions welcome.
What cymbals would you sugest that would be great for both styles?
thx,
