JmE you seem like a sensible guy, i would start a new thread but i want your opinion. if a band has written a song about a dead freind or band member, eg rancid-otherside, pennywise-bro hymn, or the offspring-left behind, do you think that it would be wrong to cover it, as you cant possibly feel as strongly about the person its dedicated to as the band did, so would be partly insulting the person it was written for, especialy if the person who does it, doesnt do it respectfuly?

If you're going to cover songs like that, I personally don't think it would be a problem. I think that in the end, it would mean something to the band because it shows that in a way, the fans really do care. I wouldn't find it insulting. It has to be done respectfully though, I would think

yeh, i think that as long as its done by peole who really understand, and can feel the loss that the band feel it would be ok. its just theres tghis real narky guy at my college, who is just the shallowest dude ever, and im ashamed that he calls himself punk.he wanted to cover the song because 'i like the riff and the way they all sing along'. he is such a dick, and i think that would be respectless.

Yea, it does sound a little disrespectful. I'm sure plenty cover it despite that, because it is a great song.
